A couple good deals on WB classic Box sets on Amazon

I just got the Gary Cooper Signature Collection for 16.99 at amazon. This is a pretty good set with Seargent York and one of the better prices that I've seen. The other great deal is Marlon Brando Collection for 15.99 and Warner Home Video Western Classics Collection for 17.49

others I noticed and have been at similar prices before were:
Marx Brothers Collection for 17.99
John Wayne John Ford for 17.99
James stewart signature 17.99
Bogart Bacall signature 17.99
Tracy and Hepburn signature for 17.99

there are probably others. If anyone sees some list them.

Also :

Errol Flynn Westerns Collection (Montana / Rocky Mountain / San Antonio / Virginia City) (2008) $17.99

That's a GREAT price for this box!

I just ordered this and then canceled because I noticed it was $17.09 when I clicked on Today's Deals ....so you might want to check there before ordering any of these.

Re: A couple good deals on WB classic Box sets on Amazon

The Marx Bros. price is THE LOWEST I have seen it at $17.99, even last year's Black Friday and Winter sale, the lowest it went down was $23.99.

Also, for the Brando, that is the lowest one I have seen and it's the set I have been waiting for to drop down in price for awhile now. The lowest was usually $19.99 but heck, $15.99 is a great price!

These are the lowest I have seen for the other sets as well as many of them last year during the December winter sale was $19.99.

I spent the last year hunting down most of the Warner Bros. Signature sets (I still haven't purchased Hitchock because I'm expecting those on Blu-ray - knock on wood and still have yet to get the Garland which rarely drops, that by the time I wait, I'll have all the single releases...hehe.)

Also picked up "The Bette Davis Collection, Vol. 3 (The Old Maid / All This, And Heaven Too / The Great Lie / In This Our Life / Watch on the Rhine / Deception)" For $17.99.

I'am hoping the Joan Crawford Vol. 2 collection will drop in price.....

The Gables and Bogarts (except Bogie and Bacall) rarely go down on Amazon. But they did go down a bit during Deep Discount March classic sale.

Re: A couple good deals on WB classic Box sets on Amazon

Just paid two bucks more for the FLYNN Western Box two weeks ago, but can console myself somewhat in having saved two bucks by buying the MARX BROS. set at Costco last year. That Flynn Western set was way overpriced from the start, rivaling the FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD Vol. 1 set as one of the bigger WB ripoffs for what you get. The Flynn Western set includes only four movies and is missing SILVER RIVER and SANTA FE TRAIL, but at $17.99 it's finally at a fair price.

Last year I picked up quite a few of these sets during the pre-Christmas sales at Amazon, but some remained high priced, such as the BOGART Signature 2 box which is now apparently OOP and commanding exorbitant prices, never mind that its chief ingredient, MALTESE FALCON, is on Blu.

I'm still looking for BETTE DAVIS Vol. 1, THE THIN MAN series, ERROL FLYNN ADVENTURE and LEGENDS OF HORROR. For whatever reason, those never seem to go on sale when they reduce the WB box sets.

The Thin Man series went down last year to $23 I believe Pre-Christmas but Bette Davis and Joan Crawford's rarely go down. I still need to get the Forbidden Hollywood v1 but hopefully it goes down to $16.99.

My only regret was not picking up "Classic Comedies Collection" last Christmas and now its OOP and very expensive. I wonder if the Myrna Loy and William Powell set went OOP too because it's very expensive. Fortunately, I picked that one up last Christmas along with the Thin Man collection.

I just want Bette Davis v1-2, Joan Crawfords, Betty Grable, The two Barbara Stanwyck Collections to go down and possibly the three Dream Factories. Now if the Film Noir's go down to $16.99, I'll get them this time. Definitely never expected the Gangster sets to go down to $16.99-$17.99.

I have never seen the Stanwyck set with a major discount anywhere - the only time it was ever a bargain was when DD had it in their BOGOF sale of WB sets two years ago. Same with the Davis and Crawford sets, I think this is a first for Vol. 3 to be marked down seriously. The Betty Grable set is from Fox which rarely has major sales beyond the old DD BOGOF era.

The Marx Brothers set was actually cheaper last year for a couple days at Amazon at $14.99 but then the current sale price is great, too.

I'm surprised the Powell/Loy set non-TM set went OOP - it always sold great judging by it's Amazon numbers. Maybe WB is going to repackage like they've done with a few other dvd sets, I'm not crazy about those gatefold sets for movies.

Speaking of Stanwyck - I'm surprised the recent Universal set hasn't yet had a great price anywhere - Amazon has Universal's Claudette Colbert set currently at fairly good discount.

Yeah, I've never seen the Stanwyck sets ever go down. I think DD had it for $23 earlier in the year but hopefully they do their classics sale like they did back in March.

Wow! I have never seen the Marx go down to $14 but with that price and its current price, it's still a steal. Yeah, I have never seen the Davis or Crawford go down ever. So, I def. picked v3 up.

I want to see that Hepburn 100 go down. Not many great films in that set but hopefully we will see that one go down to under $16.99.

The Colbert and the Dream Factory v1 are pretty good right now via third party.

Re Stanwyck, I picked up a great UK box awhile back that Amazon.UK frequently puts on sale:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Barbara-Stan...407857&sr=1-21

Right now, it's really expensive but I think I paid around 10 pounds for mine awhile back.

One 3rd party seller has it for a whopping 3 pounds!

Re: A couple good deals on WB classic Box sets on Amazon

Yes, you're right Kndy,THE THIN MAN was down to $23 last holiday season, but I couldn't afford it since I picked up other WB box sets that were on sale then. It also came down in price a bit around the time of my birthday last June and I even got it as a gift from a friend, but when I saw them reduce the Film Noir Collection 4 at the same time, I wound up canceling THIN MAN before it shipped and ordering the Noir set.

I too wish I had picked up the COMEDY CLASSICS set as well as the BOGEY Signature Collection 2 before they went OOP. I actually had the BOGART set on backorder from DD last winter for $40, but they canceled the order a month later saying they weren't getting anymore sets in.

The Stanwyck titles from the WB box I picked up individually through Big Lots and DVDSwap, so I don't need the box itself. The Powell/Loy set I rented and watched and decided that I didn't need to own it, especially since it did not use the original ad art for the covers, something I enjoy having though it's not necessarily a deal breaker. On the whole though I agree with 30smovies above regarding gatefold packaging. Didn't one or more of the Bette Davis sets get re-released in a gatefold package? I know the second Joan Crawford set, Doris Day, Esther Williams, Errol Flynn ADVENTURES and Film Noir Collection 5 sets are like that, among others. I much prefer original poster art for the design and was not happy with the packaging used by the most recent WB pressed disc sets before they started focusing on the Archive titles, which now use original art, but have other issues.

So, what do you guys think the chances are of seeing the Warner Film Noir Collections going $16.99-$17.99 on Black Friday or Pre-Christmas? Hehe...

Wishful thinking?

That'd be nice. I still need 2 of them. Anyways, I'm in for the gangsters sets volumes 2-4. I've been waiting for a good price on those for a while. Unfortunately most of the black Friday sales don't interest me or I already have them. So this box set thing is a nice surprise. If it lasts long enough and nothing else jumps out at me before the end of the week I might get the Marx brothers and/or the Steve McQueen sets. Thanks for the Heads up OP.

I bought the Stanwyck signature box last year during Borders sale when they were liquidating a majority of their DVD's , I think it was around $24.
Also picked up the Stanwyck Universal last month during that NBC store sale for $10 !

Last year, a lot of these sets ended up being $9.99 after a $5 instant rebate at BJs. I picked up the Marx Brothers set and the 8-disc Batman collection at that price. It would be nice to see them hit that price this year.

looks like they lowered the price on the other Marx Brothers set as well.
