Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Went through my blu-ray want list, but I only came up with a couple of titles that were elibigle for the 25% discount:

What's Up Doc - 14.97
National Lampoon's Vacation - $14.97
National Lampoon's European Vacation - $14.97
Breaker Morant - $16.81
Road to Perdition - $17.89
Three Kings - $14.97
American Beauty - $17.89
Mars Attacks - $14.97
Bridge Over the River Kwai - $17.92

I don't recall any of these titles being on sale anywhere since they were released, but something tells me they are still overpriced. Anybody feel otherwise?

I'm guessing almost all of those will be $9.99 on Amazon eventually.

I also ordered some Columbia Classics titles @ 14.74 each. (Having done that I'm sure Sony will feature some sale or coupon or something - Murphy's Law!) It's the best price I've seen for these MODs.

I received a confirmation email from DD but my new order does not show up in my list of orders under my account at DD. Has this happened to anyone else?

I know my credit card's available credit has been reduced to reflect the amount of my order and I have an order number, so I assume the order went through OK. Still, I wonder if this is yet another glitch at DD's website.

It took forever to check out yesterday as I kept getting a "server not available" page - but I just assumed their website was overloaded due to the sale.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for me to receive these DVD-Rs. DD indicates on the website that each title is "in stock" but the confirmation email lists all but one title as "backordered," which I assume means that the MOD hasn't been made yet.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Despite my trepidation, I ended up placing an order for a dozen DVDs. All were "in stock" or "ships directly from manufacturer". Promptly, most of the in-stock titles went to backorder. Several other folks must've coincidentally ordered the same (rare) movies the moment I placed my order. Oh well, I'm patient (sigh).

This sale has become laughable. What used to be a can't miss is definitely worth skipping. Here's a comparison of some discs I was looking to acquire compared with Amazon's everyday price. Oh, and it's all in stock at Amazon.

Gladiator BD -
$19.99 on Amazon
$23.91 DD w/ coupon
Youth in Revolt BD -
$20.99 Amazon
$20.97 DD w/ coupon
500 Days of Summer BD -
$17.49 Amazon
$17.07 DD w/ coupon
Scott Pilgrim BD -
$24.99 Amazon
$23.97 DD w/ with coupon

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Huh, I actually got my shipping notification for all 3 titles today after I ordered them yesterday. That's a nice surprise. Of course now I get to see how long they will take to get here. I might place one more order towards the end of the sale when I have more money.

It all really depends on what you are looking for. I picked up 15 TV seasons and multi-film sets from the DD sale @ 42% off MSRP that only averaged 18% off with the current Amazon pricing. So like any sale from any vendor, YMMV depending on which items are included and your personal preferences. For me this has been a very good sale from DD since I ended up spending $300 across six orders. During this Amazon sale I've managed to only find $30 to spend so far.

Depends what you want. No Funimation, Media Blasters, or Rightstuf titles, all of which were typically included in past sales.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Yeah, some people will be able to find some good deals- but nowhere near what you could find even just two or three years ago.

It used to be the first site I would check on anything, and then compare elsewhere before I ordered.
Now, unless I see a post here alerting me to a specific sale there, I usually don't even bother checking them.

Unfortunately, I don't see that changing much, even under the new management.

I did get a ship order on one of the titles- and it is a decent sale price, so no complaints.

Warner is dropping it's catalog srps next year to $19.95. I'm not sure if that new srp will spill over to previously released catalog right away, but it's a good bet by the end of the year all previously released titles will be repriced.
Right now under $15 is a decent discount, but it won't be very long before this is the typical run of the mill discount on these kinds of titles.

I paid $24 for BOTRK to get it on street day, and felt that was a bargain. This is on the short list of the best films ever made, and the job they did with the transfer is sensational and a huge improvement over previous home video editions. Not only that, but the packaging is quite nice as well.
$18 is a steal for this package- now matter what the price is six months from now.

I was going to order one thing, but the payment options won't let me change my payment source so they sabotaged my ability to buy.

Can you list what TV season you bought? I'm curious to see if there are any deals I might have missed.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Two blu-rays I've had on my wishlist jumped almost $10 the day the sale started. With the discount, it brought the price back down to the same price, or just a bit higher. Today I went to check the same titles, and they are back down to the regular price before the sale started BUT now are no longer eligible for the discount!

DD should stand for Deeply Disappointing.

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Lost in Space are on sale at Barnes and Noble (BN.com) and JR.com for cheaper prices

It's my intent to also buy the Sony MOD discs during this sale. One thing I noticed, however. Sunday evening the discs were discounted to Deep Discount's usual price of $17 and change. When the "sale" started on Monday, they increased the price to $19.65 each.

So, along with not doing an across the board 25% sale, like they've done in the past, as well as increasing their prices and charging sales tax in California, this company isn't what it used to be.

And on a side note, I just received from them this past week the season 3 box set for ROUTE 66. It was not shrink wrapped and the discs were smudged and dirty. Also the box housing the discs had wear and dings all over it. Needless to say, it's going back, on their dime.

Can't win them all. Good prices on VTTBS. Luckily I was only buying one and not several in the series or it would be harder to take. I do pick up items from BN and Borders from time to time when coupons are available but in general I don't price check with them as often since they are rarely as competitve.

Yes, that has happended to me a couple of times. I add the items and the coupon is automatically discounted the price. I go to checkout and the cart is empty. I add them back but now the discount is gone and I have to manually enter the coupon, but I can check out fine. Then I go back in and my cart shows the items again. I just delete them.

I've gone through this for several purchases so far. Don't know the issue but above is the work around.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

This "ships directly from the manufacturer" thing sucks.

As I'm located outside of the US (I'm in the UK), it's annoying enough that DD don't have any options to control how orders ship out. The old DVDPacific was really good on this, you could define whether you wanted stuff to ship out as it came into stock, or set it up so whole orders were held until they could go out as one single package. Even Amazon gives you some control, in so far as you can say "group my items into as few shipments as possible" (although they can still go out separately if they happen to go out from different fulfillment centres).

Now, I know that DD don't charge extra if they decide to partial ship, and for domestic customers it's fine - in fact, I guess it;s good service. But for me it's a pain because of Customs charges. Everything imported here gets a charge if it's over about $26 - but worse, every charge like that also gets an accompanying "admin charge" which is always a flat $12. This means if I order items that are individually over the limit, I want them to ship all together in a big box - or I get hit with multiple admin charges.

This "ships from the manufacturer" makes the problem worse. It means that items will almost certainly ship on their own.

The admin charges quickly add up to wipe out the 25% sale and then some.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Monday, Nov.22:
Received email confirmation that DVD is being shipped.

Wednesday, Nov.24:
Received DVD in mail.

TWO DAYS must be a record. I'm guessing the DVD was shipped from the new Los Angeles warehouse because there was another label affixed on top of the standard DD (Itasca, IL) label that stated Los Angeles. Living in L.A. County must contribute to the speedy delivery.
