As far as DD's future, I certainly hope they'll stick around; the prices at Amazon are sure to rise without their competition.
Explain why you think DD is Amazon's only competitor.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Wow, this is a new one. When I try to use any of the codes, I get this message:
The promo code "NYTIMES" is not valid for this purchase due to the following reason(s):
Another exclusive discount has already been applied to this order.
But there is no discount on my items at all, even when I get to the checkout screen. All of the items in my cart are the same prices they always are.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Larry Sanders complete and Scott Pilgrim Blu-ray both are ineligible. Wow, what a letdown. On the plus side for some, it looks like some preorders are available. I noticed the Shrek anthology on Blu-ray and Inception Blu-ray are offered. The Shrek beats Amazon, but not enough to warrant the possible delay in shipping.

So no sale by me. Thanks, though.

Seriously, what's with this ineligible bullshit the last few sales? I almost want to call a CSR and complain, but I know it wouldn't go anywhere. It's no wonder these guys are about to go out of business. Good riddance I say.

What is there to complain about? They don't have to offer a sale to begin with. That's like calling Best Buy and complaining that they aren't selling a certain model tv for $100. If you're not happy with what they have to offer, then don't buy from them. It's that simple.

I'd ask them why only select titles are part of the sale, when in previous years all titles were included. Seems like a legitimate question to me.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Only about 1/3 of my cart was eligible for the discount. That, coupled with the usual price increases, makes this a challenge.

It looks like the Olive films, as well as the Flicker Alley titles, are ineligible for this sale (Fortunately for me, I got Chaplin at Keystone on eBay a few weeks ago.)

Well, the MST3K sets didn't go up in price, but it seems there's also no discount on them.

The Olive Films dropped to $14.44 ,but at this point Id rather wait to see if Amazon will have a drop with these in the near future?

Ships from the manufacturer kinda of scares me off, will we get them sooner or later?

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Okay, so the sale started at 3pm (on selected DVDs). Some of the DVD Seasons that were in my wish list are more expensive after the 25% discount than the original price before they jacked it up before the sale. A good portion of the seasons I wanted aren't even included in the sale. Well, I'll just have to see what Black Friday and Cyber Monday holds, or it's back to Amazon for my purchases.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

I had 6 titles in my cart before the sale with an MSRP of $270. With the sale on all but one qualified for 25% off. The one that didn't was already over 40% off. After the discount, my total is $156 or 42% off MSRP. Same items over at Amazon came to $225 or 17% discount.

Works for me. So while the sale isn't going to be perfect for everyone it is still worth checking to find out.

So far every title I've searched for isn't on their site anymore. This sale is a fucking joke.

Maybe because the sale is different now? Do you go to any other store and ask why items that were on sale last week are no longer on sale this week?

It could be the search. Early in the day I could search on "Route 66" and find season 3. Once the sale started that search no longer worked, but searching on "route" did. It may have been some type of indexing issue after prices were updated. You might want to try again with a more general search.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Just went on their site and every code I tried to enter isn't even working...after doiung a little research I came to the conclusion that ONLY those DVDs or CDs that have the little red 25% off tag on them are eligible for the discount whiole the rest you're SOL. They why even have the damn sale and a promo box to enter the codes into? No wonder DD is going into the toilet bowl. Will look elsewhere now!

The last sale was the same way with only select items included.

While I also enjoyed the sales of the past that included everything within the site, I do not recall any other of the major vendors (BB, Amazon, BN, Borders) ever offering such a sale. So why the flack for DD?

Not trying to defend them since they have their issues like anyone else. But personally if at anytime I find a better deal then what everyone else currently has, I'm happy to get it regardless whom it is with.

Re: DD 25% off sale starts Monday

Riddle me this - why is it when I search for "Django" in blu-ray I get something called "Battle in Seattle"? As far as I can tell, they only have ONE LETTER in common! --Peter

Yeah I was hoping to get that too, oh well. I made a small order. I'm hesitant to order too much because I still have something on back order from like 4 months ago. A lot of what I wanted wasn't eligible anyway. Oh well, I'm happy with the prices I got and maybe I'll actually get them. If they do get me these items before the sale is over I may order something else but at this point it ain't worth the effort.
