Bob, if you're still interested in this set, Familyvideo.com has a sale going on where that set is $5.99 + 2 bucks S&H and that's the best you can get for this set for right now, if you truly want it. Just trying to help you out.

This is for the guy who has been looking for My Own Worst Enemy.

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Nothing new at the NoHo stores (Vineland Ave, Sherman Way), but the Van Nuys store on Sepulveda has some of the newly reported titles. This is one of the weakest batches I can remember seeing at Big Lots.
Maybe only a dozen or so titles, here's some of them - all $5:

Surface: Complete Series
Watchmen
Friday the 13th Part 8 (the non-special edition)
various double features: Grumpy Old Men 1 & 2 / End of Days & Virus / Sphere & ??

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Picked up the following at the Longview, Texas store:

Nip/Tuck Season 1 ($6)
Kingdom Hospital Complete Series ($6)
Heroes Season 1 ($6)
Private Parts ($2.50)
Black Dahlia ($2.50)

All of the previously viewed dvd's were in very good shape. I still haven't tried the Bones Season 1 that I picked up in Marshall, but it had one disc that was in pretty rough shape, and all the rest of them looked like they were brand new.

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Would someone remind me how the 2 for $5 sales work? Is it that buying just one disk is regular price, but buying more than one always yields the sale price? Basically, I'm asking if after that first disk, if it's necessary to buy in even numbered quantities. Thanks.

Yes. I forgot about the sale and was charged $3 after buying just one movie at the first store I checked yesterday.

If you buy more than 1 $3 (or $4) DVD, they all should ring up 2.50.

The numbnuts at the Kennett location separated all of the individual discs for the series sets and put $6 stickers on each.

^That's just plain brain-dead! That'd make many of those more expensive than a retail version of the same season! Looks like they'll be sitting on these for a long while.

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Anyone need FEAR STRIKES OUT? Haha, I thought not. Oh well, if you do, the Culver City, CA store must have at least 12 copies of it. Not much else there at all, the display has shrunk down considerably since the last time I went. Still enough of that $6 Nickleodeon crap to irritate me though. And I know that's the only reason it's still there, to irritate ME!

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Ok, if you live by the Big Lots that's located on the corner of Bumby & E. Col ( in Orlando ), then go there as soon as you can ( before the new display is picked-over )...

They added a NEW tall cardboard display ( on palet ) with a lot of new DVDs ( $3.00 each ).

They also put all of the store's DVD displays in the same area.
I saw the following ( all $3.00 each )....

Invisable Man season one ( tv series from 2000 )

Pans Labyrinth ( 2 disc )

King Kong REMAKE ( I think it had 3 discs in extra fat keep case )

Revolutionary Road ( with Kate and her Winslets )

Career Opportunities ( with Jennifer and her Connellys )

Some old Dracula movie... I can NOT remember the title

Skeleton Key ( with Kate Hudson )

Many others, some were repeats of past shipments, but many where new...

I purchased the following, from the same display as above ( was charged $2.50 each )...

Dick ( with Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams )

Go ( with Sarah Polley and Katie Holmes )

Rental DVDs -- Not the same thing!

Here's a warning that may be informative to some.

Big Lots is selling some DVDs labeled "previously viewed" that are a little more than previously viewed. These are "Rental" DVDs. Rental DVDs are manufactured especially for the rental market. They have a different UPC code, different art work (both cover and disc-art), and no special features. Usually, the change in the cover art work is to remove the special feature from the back and add the word "RENTAL" on the bottom of the front cover. Big Lots has created an oversized price sticker (3.5" x 1.25") that is placed at the bottom of the cover to hide the word "RENTAL". Titles I saw had the Big Lots logo in a light blue ink and included:
  • Four Christmas
  • My Sister's Keeper
  • Terminator Salvation
  • Time Traveler's Wife, The
You get the same movie as the consumer DVD...but the "rental" DVD has the word "rental" silk screened on to the disc to identify its intended market. The UPC code is interesting on the cover for these four (4) titles. The consumer market DVDs have an ISBN number and "proof of purchase" tags printed in the UPC box. The rental DVD's at Big Lots have only the UPC code: no ISBN number and no proof of purchase tags.

I don't know if this affects the "previously viewed" TV sets that are bundled in multiple boxes. That is, I don't know if the special features have been stripped or not.

For more information on special rental discs, look here or "google" "rental DVD no special features"

My main concern is that these "rental" DVDs are missing the special features found on the consumer DVDs. The purchaser does not get the same value but is unaware since Big Lots covered up the word "RENTAL" with a special oversized sticker. A "RENTAL" DVD is not the same thing as the regular consumer DVD. It is bad business practice to create a special sticker to obscure this consumer information.
