A few observations:

Ever think there are fewer and fewer dvds that you want to see because you already own so many?

BL gets in interesting stuff and people pick through it and take the best right away so if you don't get in on a new shipment right away, not much is left...

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Stopped by a Biglots over the weekend (first time in about 5 weeks) and picked up the following:

Escape from Fort Bravo $3
Wildboyz S1 $3
Flashbacks of a Fool $3
My Own Worst Enemy: Complete Series $3
The Lazarus Project $3

Most of these were mentioned about a month ago. Surprised I was able to find them. This store must have them in the back and refill the racks as needed, rather than dump them all out on the sales floor at one time.

On a tangent here ...

I was in a Big Lots the other day, and - I don't know if this has been mentioned yet or not - I started thinking, "I wonder if all of these copies of 'Brown Bunny' were acquired as some seasonal tie-in for Easter."

Which I could totally see happening ...

I have some contacts at several local BL's, At least here, they are receiving very little these days. (In fact I was originally planning on posting that none of the stores I regularly check on got any dvd's in the last week). Until the big stock-up of about 3 weeks ago (each store got 15 copies or so of 30 titles or so) there really had been very little arriving this year. So no, I don't think the lack of quality titles is resalers buying all BL has.

Remember, with that last big batch, it appears that most (all??) regions of the country got only a very small percentage of the big list of titles.

Hit a Big Lots yesterday that was closed last week because of a power outage and picked up the two-disc Punch-Drunk Love and the two-disc A Very Long Engagement for $3 each.

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

BigLots keeps advertising that they've just got a bunch of new titles in, they make it sound like just what we've been waiting for, yet when I go there all I see are a couple of small displays sitting on top the larger floor displays with nothing exciting whatsoever in their contents.

With the exception of the Dracula movie I picked up a couple of weeks ago there's been nothing to whet the appetite of a SciFi/Fantasy/Horror geek... -kd5-

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

^ yeah no doubt.

I keep checking mine and a few others, nothing.

They have got it a small display of some stuff they basically already had, none of the standouts, and a ton of duplicates.
Getting really tired of that crap hole.

They better be getting something that makes my trousers wet really soon or I'm gonna lose it.

As a side note, I was starting to think they actually received stuff in but wasn't putting it out, so I sneeked back to their back room and walked around looking for unopened boxes that looked like dvd displays but didn't see any so I think mine just hasn't been getting crap in.

Oh damn, that's too funny. Talking your way out of that situation could have been interesting.

"Which way to the bathroom? I've got diarrhea" probably would satisfy any resulting interrogations.

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I visited an out of the way BL last weekend and ended up walking out with Brown bunny, Woody Woodpecker Collection 2, and Denis Leary roast... wouldve picked more, but a quick netflix search showed me that the other 5 titles in my hands were all available for streaming so no need to clutter up more than I already have with discs

Its probably good I missed out on this wave of Blockbuster closing final days too

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Some new $5 titles at the Heath, Ohio BL today...They rang up as "DVD 5.00 Tray April".

Saw complete series sets of "Blade" (the Spike TV series) and "Conviction" for $5 each along with some return titles like "Deliverance" and the 2 disc reconstruction of "The Big Red One".

I picked up 2 sets of Universal's Franchise Collection series. The Gary Cooper Collection includes "Design for Living", "Peter Ibbetson", "The General Died at Dawn", "Beau Geste" and "The Lives of a Bengal Lancer".
The Marlon Brando Collection includes "Night of the Following Day", "The Ugly American", "A Countess from Hong Kong" and "The Appaloosa". Both sets were $5

Oh man that's a good one - I've had it on my want list for years but have never seen it on sale anywhere online for under $14 - now I'll have to go to BL every few days hoping to find it.

I just hope Big Lots will be coming out with newer stuff s the summer approaches ob both a TV and movie front. Just tired of seeing the same old junk there over and over again, and yes, including Twin Peaks S2, the new Joey S1

I doubt there's much hoarding going on, BL has just not been getting in very much good stuff for the last several months and they've always been poor about "spreading the weatlh around" to every store. What they do get in now often takes a long time to sell - my local BL still has $3 TO CATCH A THIEF dvds from last month that would have flown out the store two years ago.

The novelty of $3 major studio dvds has worn off and people will just not buy anything at that price anymore. Of course, the economy is also a factor. There's plenty of titles BL cannot move which is probably why they are not packing the shelves to the brim anymore. It took quite awhile for most of those $10 tv season dvd sets to start disappearing in quantity at my BL and there's still a number of them there.

Great news about the Gary Cooper Collection. My local Big Lots trip only yielded the 2-disc New York, New York for $3.

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I checked out the BL in Torrance CA today since they usualy put out new stuff on Wednesdays and sure enough they had four or five new pallets of $3 movies. Toomany to record them all but I saw
The Plainsman (Cooper)
National Velvet (Taylor)
Caprica
TV Funhouse box set
various Carlos Mencia uncensored
and a bunch of others
I picked up:
Hamlet 2 (Coogan)
SNL the 80's (documentary about the "lost years")
SNL Best of 2006-2007

They also had a bunch of PV'd DVD's which, judging by "exclusive to" stickers were from Hollywood Video
I saw several recent releases but only bought Inglorious Basterds
Good news was that the PV's were also $3

Wow! I picked that one up at Sam's a couple of months back for $11.50 (tax included). It's still unopened so if this shows up at BL - back to Sam's it goes.

Did you see any others besides the 2 you mentioned?

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

The Gary Cooper and Marlon Brando sets were the only 2 of the Universal Franchise Collections that I saw today. I'll be checking out a couple more stores Thursday and see if any of the other sets show up.

As mentioned by the following poster, I was simply "lookin for the bathroom, thought it was back here". Always the answer.

There were only a few workers there that day and no one was walking around or in the back so I was safe.

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Over the last few days I've done some driving and finally hit all 7 nearby BL in central PA. I either purchased or noted

Get Smart: The Complete Series (1995)
Punch Drunk Love: 2 Disk Special Edition
Dragonslayer
Who Killed The Electric Car?
Phantom Planet (color + b&w)
Crossfire
5ive ("Martini Movies")
The Strange One

There were no copies of Brown Bunny to be had...but I did see it in the Drama section at FYE! Also, if anybody is looking for Dragonslayer, it's apparently not hard to find at FYE if you have a couple stores nearby. These seem to be old stock, though, as they use the original artwork, and the price is $9.99.

A question? For anybody who bought Dragonslayer at BL (the 2007 "When Dragons Were Real" version, right?), did Paramount include a picture disk, or use the notoriously cheap 1-color text printing often seen on their budget releases?

Re: Big Lots Part 9 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Stopped by one of the Albany stores last night, and came out with these:

Bee Movie $4
Casino Royale $5
The Cable Guy $5
Little Rascals in Color $3

I did notice 2 copies of Mister Smith Goes To Washington for $3...too bad I already own that one.
