Re: November Criterion Sale

Anyone have experience using the $5 coupons in Seattle? I moved back from Spokane since the last sale (downtown is the closest, but I do have a car.)

Re: November Criterion Sale

Hey what a story indeed.
Lucky for you to notice the item was in stock and finally this order will come
to a close.

Are you looking at any titles for the next sale ?
I like reading what you guys are about to buy.
I'll probably blind buy on the titles I see the most.

Or would you mind giving me your top 3-5 criterion on blu-ray recommendations ?
Be it a title you're going to buy or one you already have.

Would be much appreciated ! Thanks

I hate to recommend titles since everyone has different tastes. I have a relatively modest list for this sale. Not sure if the America Lost & Found will be part of the sale but I'm going to try to get a store to pre-order it for 50% off and a coupon instead of waiting until next July.

America Lost & Found: The BBS Story
Charade
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
Modern Times
Night of the Hunter
Paths of Glory
Thin Red Line

Re: November Criterion Sale

I couldn't wait on House since it's one of my favorite movies so I bought that when it came out but I will definitely be getting Charade and Paths of Glory.

Re: November Criterion Sale

Another modest shopping list this time out as well:
  • Charade BD
  • The Thin Red Line BD
  • Seven Samurai BD
  • Paths of Glory BD
  • Night of the Hunter BD
  • Modern Times BD

Would love for America Lost & Found: The BBS Story BD to get in under the wire, but not going to gets my hopes up.

Re: November Criterion Sale

I've got to limit myself after July's spree but am hoping to pick these up if I can afford it:
John Cassavetes - 5 Films (if there is a 20%+ off coupon) | Throne of Blood | Viridiana | Exterminating Angel | Bicycle Thief | Blast of Silence | Honeymoon Killers | The Pornographers | Man Bites Dog

Every time this sale comes around it makes me really want to upgrade to Blu-Ray; I'd love to pick up Night of the Hunter and Antichrist but refuse to do so on standard definition (suspecting the format will hold little/no value relative to high definition if both are avaliable).

Neither of you know me, but I'd most definitely recommend it. Dark and different.

Re: November Criterion Sale

Thanks for all the listings. It is a pleasure to see all the choices that give me ideas for my own purchases. Modern Times and Paths Of Glory for me too, but thanks for the suggestions. I must admit, I am a bit of a John Cassavetes fan: of both he and his wife.

Thanks for the heads up... every sale Man Bites Dog is on my "to buy" list and I usually end up passing it up because of overspending and I'm (probably incorrectly) convinced I can get it cheaper second hand.

If your ordering online, A Woman is a Woman is out of print, BN has it listed on their site, but as a special order 3-5 weeks..but is indeed out of print.

I'm going to buy 13-15 blu's - Paths of Glory and Night of the Hunter being my most wanted right now.

I saw on the Criterion site that is is out of print. Do you think BN will still be able to complete my order within 3 to 5 weeks? I can wait.

I would like to add a strong word of caution to anyone considering a blind-buy on Antichrist. Very tough to watch, and I couldn't imagine ever reaching for it again.

I do NOT think they can. I believe that is BN speak for, "We don't have it now, but we guess that we can probably get it at some point." They would be looking to fill your order from a distributor, who would inform them the DVD is OOP. Whether or not BN then updates their website with that new information remains a mystery to me.

The great thing about half-off Criterions is that if you don't like 'em - you can always resell 'em and get your money back (sometimes more).

During checkout is there anything in your cart that mentions the 2 month free trial? You must use the link for the free offer and not the regular membership offer. Also I assume the account you are trying to sign up with has never had a membership associated with it because the offer is supposed to be for only new memberships. If at one time you had a membership with the account that might create a problem getting the free 2 month offer. It also mentions you must make payment with a credit card. Any other form of payment may prevent it from working.

I'm not sure how you are trying to sign up, so here is the link for the free offer to add to your cart if it helps.

How do you get the membership card? I want to use the membership right away in stores, not online...do they give you the membership # after you place the order? Thanks

Yes, though it might take an hour or two. It was attached to my shipping notice.
