Re: November Criterion Sale

There are seven Blu-ray titles that I definitely want to pick up:
- Seven Samurai
- Hunger
- The Magician
- Paths of Glory
- House
- The Darjeeling Limited
- Youjimbo/Sanjuro Box Set

And about 30 more that would be nice to have.

Re: November Criterion Sale

I do love the fact that my birthday falls right in the middle of this sale! Last year I got the blu-rays of The Wages of Fear and Wings of Desire for $20 each! This year my list is slightly longer, but I know what I wanna get!

Frustrating but I can wait until the following spring if that is the case. Still plenty of other titles I would like to catch up on, Seventh Seal being at the top of the list. Just didn't get around to that one last time. Possibly Stagecoach as well although I never did catch a comparison review with the Warner release.

Stagecoach at DVD Beaver. The extras are the clincher - Bucking Broadway in HD! - superb release.

Re: November Criterion Sale

From the Criterion Forum:
So I walked into my local Barnes and Noble earlier this evening, and I inquired as to when the sale would be held. The employee I spoke to told me that the sale would begin the first Tuesday of November (the 2nd) and would end the first Tuesday of December (the 7th).
If true, this would cover all 2010 Criterions!

Re: November Criterion Sale

Haven't all the previous sales been 2 weeks? Would be weird to suddenly extend it by an extra three weeks. Seems like every B&N employee has their own version of the story.

Re: November Criterion Sale

Actually, after doing a little digging around, it looks like the first one was three weeks, the second was two weeks, and the third was three weeks.

I was told at a local store that the sale will end on November 22.

Re: November Criterion Sale

I liked this repy on the criterion forum

Barnes and Noble employees barely know what time their shift starts, much less sale dates

Re: November Criterion Sale

I was once told that titles slated for pre-order in their system can be pre-ordered during the sale at sale price along w/any applicable coupons.

Unfortunately, that's never been the case either online or in-store. Any pre-orders outside the timeframe of the sale do not qualify.

I've had it work for two of the sales in-store, but I imagine it's YMMV.

Re: November Criterion Sale

According to the B&N in store calender system on their computer, the sale will end on the 21st. A very helpful employee looked into it for me and I saw the info on their computer screen myself.

Did they confirm when the sale will begin?

The note on the ending date in their system was for an entry on the 9th. So it didn't say which date it begins, but I suspect it was be either the 9th or 8th. 8th makes more sense as that means it would last two weeks.

If the sale is two weeks I would expect it should start online on November 8th, and November 9th at stores. Usually the sales start earlier online. I'm wondering if the end date on the 21st is a mistake though. I would have expected the sale to run through Monday November 22nd.

What's to clarify? The fine print on the coupons is perfectly clear. They are single use when buying or renewing a membership. Now the fact that BN employees may accept them when perhaps they shouldn't (per the fine print)... well that is YMMV.

Personally i'm hoping for status quo.
