I visited an Alco Discount Store this weekend for the first time. Appartently, these stores are found in very small towns in 23 states. The prices on their regular DVD's were pretty bad, but they had quite a few sets all priced at $9.99. I visited three other stores and they had different inventory so it's YMMV. These deals probably aren't good enough to make a special road trip, but if you see an Alco, you may want to stop by.

Thanks OP, there are a few around here I never bother with because, as you said, the regular media prices are usually pretty laughable.

Starman, the ones I visited were all in MN (Le Sueur, New Prague, Olivia, and Paynesville).

Also, I forgot to mention that with the exception of one store, the $9.99 sets were in a display in an aisle at various places in the store. So, if you go in and don't see them in Electronics, you will want to walk around the store.

I went to the New Prague store and picked up the Gary Cooper Franchise Collection and the five-disc Universal Cecil B. DeMille Collection for $9.99 each. These were the only copies I saw. I also saw, but did not pick up, the two-disc Criterion edition of Traffic....also $9.99. That was the only Criterion I found. These were in a center aisle bin advertising the $9.99 specials....not in the DVD/CD corner of the store.

The wife wanted to drop by Tuesday Morning on the way back and I noticed those Universal John Wayne, Rock Hudson and Marlon Brando sets there for $9.99 as well.

Found a couple of different $9.99 titles today at the Alco in Spring Valley, MN. Still a very odd mix of box sets and YMMV.

- James Stewart (Hollywood Legend Collection - Vertigo, Rear Window, Harvey, Winchester '73, and Destry Rides Again) - This was the last copy, but other stores may have it.
- Ben Stiller Collection (3 copies)
- Miami Vice (Season 5) (2 copies)
- The Invisible Man (Legacy Collection) (1 copy)
