I think it's opinion more than anything else about the aspect ratios. There were a few that were mistakenly widescreen, but those were corrected early on. The only negative is the non-anamorphic widescreen on Serpent's Egg and (i think) Passion of Anna. Other than that, it's a great set.

The product details list the old UPC code for the recalled set. Surely they don't still have stock from 2003. Anyone know?

I wouldn't be surprised if the studio had a bunch of the old version and unloaded them to discounters for next to nothing.

MGM recalled the sets, but I'm not sure if they offered an "exchange" program for the messed-up boxes that slipped through the cracks.

My Bergman set came from Oldies.com and it is the corrected version. Bought it a couple years ago.

It has the White Sticker with the corrected UPC/Numbers over the old UPC.

Though I can't answer if Oldies.com has both the recalled and the new set, or just the new set.

I've ordered mine from Oldies.com in the past...the only drawback I can remember is ending up on their mailing list and getting large newspaper mailings from them listing all of their DVD deals.

Passion of Anna and Persona are the gems of the set for me.

The shipping is a bit steep for one item. Are there any other must have deals I can add to my order?

A bit of info here - I e-mailed Oldies.com to ask if they were still selling the recalled sets last fall. I believe their website previously listed the corrected UPC, but I still wanted to be sure before ordering. I provided the UPC of the recalled set and the UPC of the corrected set and asked if they could verify which they were offering.

A couple days later, a nice guy e-mails me back to say that he inspected the set in their warehouse and, after removing several stickers off of the slipcase, he discovered that it was the OLD UPC. He apologized and said that they would be correcting the UPC on the product page to reflect the recalled set. I wrote back to tell him that the multiple stickers over the barcode could indicate that it WAS the corrected set after all and asked if one of those stickers he removed had the corrected barcode on it. I never got a response after that.

I ended up getting my set for $25 used from a third party seller on Amazon who was able to confirm the correct OARs. My slipcase didn't have any text on it, just images of Liv Ullman - so I assume I am missing a plastic overlay that came with the original case.

I bought this set last year from Oldies when it was also on sale. Got 1 bad disc (ws/fs issue) & they replaced it no hassle. Wonderful set, I highly recommend it.

The set is 6 years old. I think it would've happened by now.

I wonder if Criterion will get their hands on this set. They've got their hands on quite a bit of MGM titles.

I think they just dropped the price on this set. I just ordered some stuff from them the other day, and I saw this set as I was browsing the site for more money (still cheap though). They had a free shipping on $25 promo that ended last night.

I also own this set. I got it for a similar price from Oldies.com before and it is the corrected copy.

I think anyone who has any interest in Ingmar Bergman and his films should definitely take a chance and order this for essentially a $17 shipped price. This is an excellent deal for some truly remarkable movies.
