Really broad question. What films interest you? What would you consider a bargain?

Honestly all brick and mortar stores are a rip off - except maybe on new releases the week they are released.

Most everything you'll find cheap there are crappy titles that are there for a reason.

There are always amazing prices that can be found at Borders...

Nah, but seriously, places like WalMart, Big Lots, Five Below and even K-Mart should help you find the bargain prices you're looking for.

Virtually every DVD ever released has shown up for $5 or less in bargain bins and bargain stores.

There are multiple titles from Paramount, Sony and Warner at Big Lots. Films like Death Wish, Strangers on a Train, Men in Black, The Right Stuff, THX 1138, The Devil's Advocate, Superman, Superman II, etc. As for Ross, I just purchased Casablanca Ultimate edition, 300 Collector's Edition and Ben Hur 4 disc edition for $6.99 each.

Roman Holiday $3
Sunset Blvd $3
The Midnight Express $6
Central Station $3
etc

well, it depends on each individual. My great movies at great prices could be different than yours.

I'm obviously not talking new releases, TV sets, Criterions, or other high priced sets.

Even if you take out used prices, I bet 75% of films have been $5 or less at least once within two years of release. Add in used, and we're probably over 99%.

Re: blu-ray/dvd bargains

I love how in some peoples minds, once a movie hits the bargain bin, big lots... etc... it becomes a crappy movie... Ive picked up a TON of great titles from Big Lots ALONE over the past few years... if you count the box set extravaganza from last year there are even more quality titles... I picked up all 6 seasons of Flintstones for well under $20... The reason there are so many dvd deals is because the bottom dropped out of that market some time ago, there is PLENTY of variety and quality to be had there. Ive picked up a lot of WalMart's 3-4 buck selection too... The 4 movie Ringu set, Odd COuple... etc

I see the same thought process on other forums when dealing with video games too

Re: blu-ray/dvd bargains

I would say the majority of my collection cost me less than 7 bucks, many sub 5, and a lot of that came from Wal Mart bins--many of these classic films. A lot of the rest came from the Oldies catalog and Hamilton's catalog. Very much the same type of overstock product, they are basically mail order bargain bins.

Here is their Store Locator

I echo the other above posts that mention Big Lots as a good place for bargains, too. Here is their Store Locator, as well.

Neither of you have responded yet, and I'm curious for your thoughts.

Providing a list of what titles have not been found at bargain prices would be much easier. Name any standard DVD release of 2009 or before and it has been dirt cheap somewhere.

Just a very few examples of $3 (or less) titles at Big Lots, many of these the 2 disc special editions: many Bergman films, most Woody Allen films, Superman I and II, Men in Black, Strangers on a Train, Lost Boys, Phantom of the Opera, the Exorcists film, Mystic River, 2001, Beetlejuice, the Blade films, Caddyshack, Casablanca, Eraser, Fallen, many John Wayne films, Mad Max films, Shaft films, Police Academy films, Fugitive, Philadelphia, Cowboys, Twilight Zone, Wyatt Earp, Ali, Black Hawk Down, Leon, Memento, the Monty Python films, all the James Bond films.

I could go on for paragraphs, and that's just at Big Lots. Add in the Walmart $5 bins and we have thousands more. Add in the big chain used places and we probably have every mainstream DVD ever released for $5 or less each.
