Target has the new "20th Century-Fox Studio Classics" series at half their list price ($19.98) for $9.99 - an amazing deal as most of these sell as single movies online for around $15. These are four disc sets are apparently the very same discs you get when you buy them individually the exception being the LES MISERABLES which was a two-disc set of the 1935 and 1952 films but in this set they are on a double-sided disc making that set 5 movies for $9.99.

Here are the sets I saw at my local Target:

Incredibly this half-off-list-price sale is not even heralded at Target - it's apparently their regular price there and these dvds are on the wall with the rest of their current stock.

I also got the (mostly) musical Fox Studio pack for $9.99 at Target last week: Anna and the King of Siam/Can-can/Daddy Longlegs/Star. All these packs are excellent values if you don't have at least two of the movies in the pack.

Target has just about all of the Warner 4-packs for $9.99 as well.

Ironically, my local Target was selling Fox 2 and 3 packs for $15 and up while the 4-pack Studio Collection was going for $9.99.

I agree with the OP that Target's price for the other entries in this series is fantastic. I'd be surprised if set 9 ends up being sold at Target though, as it includes a NC-17 movie.

I thought the Shirley Temple movie with JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH and THOSE ... FLYING MACHINES was a rough match but yowza - ALL ABOUT EVE and THE INN OF THE SIXTH HAPPINESS with the VALLEY OF THE DOLLS movies!!!!

as far as i know target is only stocking the first 6 that set isnt even on the web.

Yes, and the proof is in the ratings of the four movies: 2 G-ratings, 1 PG-13, and 1 NC-17. Not exactly a typical combination for a single box set.

Thanks for the heads up. I picked up three of the Fox sets, plus the WB Lethal Weapon 4-movie set at the same price. Three of the Lethal Weapon movies are listed as Unrated, and claim to have different material than the original release and noted as "Directors Cuts". Does this mean they have additional material, or are they censored in some way?

The "Directors Cut" of the first three Lethal Weapon movies are extended cuts, running about 3-5 minutes longer than the originals. You can check IMDB to see the additional material. These Directors Cuts have been released previously separately on DVD a few years after the original theatrical version came out.

There was nothing to scan, my store didn't even have these sets. I doubt I'd be returning... might check a different store though.

Even though I'm passing on this first round, applause for the OP. I never would have cruised the multi-title sets at my local store. I'll be picking up sets 11-14 for sure.

Per the Target website the price is now $8.99 per 4 movie set. They still only list Volumes 1-6 .

To answer my own question, not yet. At least not here in Target's 'hood (suburban Minneapolis). I decided I would pick up four of the original six at the $8.99 sale price, passing on the two volumes of biblical epics. It looks like other studio four-pack collections are on sale at the same price.

Just curious about Set 9: are the Valley of the Dolls films the same ones that had been sold for $20 apiece for the past few years?

Thanks OP!! I've been eyeing a couple of these and looking for "reasonable" prices (which strikes me as funny since the 4 titles in *any* of these sets could cost as much as $40 *on sale* outside these sets which makes the MSRP quite "reasonable"). I missed this when originally posted and only visit Target when someone posts a "deal".

I picked up:

THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY/THE BIBLE/DEMETRIUS AND THE GLADIATORS/THE ROBE

Got them both for *less* than the cost of just a couple of the titles individually - $19.42 for both - tax included! Even though I already own a couple of the titles it's well worth the cost.

There are several more I'd love to get at these prices but Target here only has the first 6 as many have reported.
