You guys have no idea how hard it was to show restraint this time around. I limited myself to two -- sigh, yes, two -- purchases, mostly because of finances going in other directions around the house. The two splurges were, of course, Red Desert and The Red Shoes on Blu-ray.

that's in a short list I've decided to forego for now with the belief that they have to be in the blu queue...I put most of the 2 disc all time essentials in that category. Of those I don't have I decided not to get this time:

Tokyo Story
Rules of the Game (A new restored print is touring the country right now)
Passion of Joan of Arc
Ikiru
Fanny & Alexander
Pandora's Box
Naked Lunch (to go w/ Videodrome that was confirmed)
David Lean Dickens (Oliver Twist and Great Expectations)
L'Avventura
Hidden Fortress
Knife in the Water
Double Life of Veronique

That's just a guess of course, but I'd be willing to bet the majority of them are in the works to some extent. And that doesn't include likely candidates I already own like Amarcord, Bicycle Thieves, Spirit of the Beehive, and Ugetsu. Beehive is one I think i'd have to upgrade, but I'm happy with the others. All of this is moot I guess since the sale is now over, but it's something I've been considering throughout and wanted to put down somewhere. Of course we need to include the other strong candidates like Au Revoir les Enfants, Picnic At Hanging Rock, and Kwaidan from the poll they did when they first made the turn to blu....I'm shocked we don't have Picnic yet, not to mention annoyed!

absolutely agree with you, Brizz. am first in line for the Picnic At hanging Rock Blu. Its got a haunting soundtrack...stuck with me during my teens. Anne Louis Lambert is pure eye candy. Great film by Peter Weir. Held off on getting the SD, holding out for the Blu

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

So is the sale really over Tuesday? I was going to possibly get the Nikkatsu Noir boxset. Strangely the other day it showed as not being available on the website, but it was available at the store closest to me (but wouldn't show a price). I was going to go over there, thinking the store was open until 11, but it turns out this particular one closes at 10. Even odder, that boxset doesn't seem to even appear on B&N's website anymore. It's just gone!

Here you go:

Nikkatsu Noir

It's listed as out-of-stock and unavailable right now. Put it on your wish-list for November.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

I got all but one disc I wanted this time around (The Secret Of The Grain was no where to be found in North Jersey).

Looking forward to November. One question to the other posters, how are you searching for the Eclipse series items? I am having a very difficult time finding them.

By typing the name of the Eclipse series title (not Eclipse series) but like: postwar kurosawa, first films samuel fuller, travels with Hiroshi, etc.

Looking at various forums...looks like a member on mubi.com broke the bank with his purchases: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...Criterions.jpg at $3,000. Any others go super crazy on this sale this time around?

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

I placed my 5th order last Tuesday, I decided to cancel 3 of the items, they canceled the items - but charged the full amount to my card, almost a week later it is still there - I e-mailed customer service and they never got back to me so I called, I was told I would have to wait until the package is delivered and then they can refund my money, what the hell is that? All the items I bought had ships within 24 hours and are still listed online as that, I had an expected ship date of the 29th and then yesterday I got the sorry your order has been delayed e-mail...which is fine..but its not fine that I can not get a refund until my order is delivered, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard....the correct total and order is shown on my order status page....

And who the hell do they use for free shipping ? I bet it is USPS - cos there's no tracking information on the order status. Its been six days and nothing yet. How IS USPS surviving ? I was supposed to get 3 day shipping on this

They only use UPS on expedited shipping, USPS smart mail on the rest, I believe.

If you want faster shipping, it pays to use the Military link instead of Library link, a little less discount but free UPS shipping on any order for free.

Yes, as someone who has received shipping via those two methods more than once. That can take close to one month and is extremely annoying. My most recent order was shipped on the 15th and I still haven't gotten it yet.

Anyway, the BD of Ran and Contempt are on sale at bn.com for $19.99. They aren't criterion releases but the films had been previously released in criterion in SD.

Let's go back to posting pictures of our hauls!

...I went a bit overboard, but I've been waiting a long time for this sale. Thanks LaserMovies for the coupons! I don't think I would have bought half of this if it weren't for those coupons.

edit - Picture was a bit wide, so here's a link instead.

I got SO LUCKY on Diary. About ten minutes after the OOP announcement I placed orders with DD and BN for Diary of a Chambermaid, thinking I'd save a few bucks from Amazon. Well, both were in out of stock limbo until they were cancelled about a month ago. By some act of god, I stumbled onto a copy at a local BN during the sale. I swear as I read that spine, rays of fluorescent light shone down from the heavens above.

A sale of the company could affect the November Criterion sale so it is relevant to the thread.
