A person on Criterion's Facebook page, claiming to be a B&N employee, said that it ends tomorrow (Monday). He was correcting Criterion's assertion that it ends today/tonight.

There's really no way to confirm what is true until someone goes in tomorrow to see if there are still stickers on the Criterion media or not. I'll be checking one out tomorrow, so if no one has posted by then, I'll give an update after lunch.

I've been eying that Sacha Guitry set, but having a hard time completely rationalizing another purchase. I don't own either, but it's looking like a great bet.

nope, but had an interesting twist on the coupons today. Went in for Secret of the Grain blu but they were all gone - and they had 5 of them on Friday. They had been cleaned out of an amazing amount of stuff too. The guy working is super cool and had been very happy to take the coupons on previous visits and offered to order it for me w/ home delivery so I could get the sale price. I asked if I could use the $5 coupon I had and he said sure. He did it all and strangely I didn't get my $2 member discount since it was technically a web order I guess, but he did put the coupon on so it was $14.99 + tax w/ free expedited shipping. I wasn't going to complain about the $2 at all.

I later went to another for Band of Outsiders...was able to use the last $5 coupon I had printed on that too...$8.50 + tax

I don't know why Criterion keeps saying it ends today on their site and fb. it clearly runs through the end of business tomorrow in the stores - which is standard for all sales - Tuesday is release day for books, music, movies and the standard start day for sales - making Monday the standard end day. So you have till whenever your store closes tomorrow night for last minute impulse buys

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

I had very little problem using the coupons in store, and just did my only internet order, through AAA, for titles that I didn't find in store (Big Deal On Madonna Street, Loves of a Blonde, and The Shop On Main Street). Thanks for the list of StudioCanal titles, brizz and Gobear. I'm not sure which of you is right, but I picked up what I needed from both of your lists to be safe (I don't think FanFan la Tulipe is coming out on blu-ray soon, anyway).

As I write this, the online banner is still active, but the discount has been reduced to 40% off.

Criterion Banner and 50% Off link still active. B&N online price now reduced 25-40%.
It appears that most Blurays are cheaper than their DVD counterpart because of the reduction difference.

Put in a final order last night for The Human Condition with my AAA membership.

Glad I did it since the plug is apparently being pulled on the web site now.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

I called my local store 10:24am Monday and was told the sale lasts "through the end of today, today's the last day" so it might be worth it to try brick and mortar.

Has anyone made an in-store purchase today and can confirm the 50%-sale price is still in effect?

I don't see why the sale WOULDN'T still be in effect. The signs in-store said all along that today was the last day, and several people have already posted that they have recieved verbal confirmation from employees that today is the last day.

Hasn't everyone had plenty of time to get what they wanted from the sale?

If you don't have them all, there's still more to get.

There were several times during the sale that I was "done", but I still keep contemplating going out and getting one or two more titles.

Since I'm sure there are a lot of us who only try using one coupon per visit, every day counts.

It's a matter of budget and impulse, not time.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

My overall haul:

2 or 3 things I know about Her
Army of Shadows
The Bad Sleep Well
Le Cercle Rouge
Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (OOP)
Friends of Eddie Coyle
Harakiri
Ikiru
In the Mood for Love
Lost Honor of Katharina Blum
Maitresse
Mamma Roma
The Most Dangerous Game
Pickup on South Street
The Ruling Class
Le Samourai
Simon of the Desert
Sisters
Spirit of the Beehive
Ugetsu
Under the Volcano
Viridiana
A Woman is a Woman (OOP)
WR: Mysteries of an Organism

Fassbinder's BRD Trilogy
4 by Agnes
Rossellini's War Trilogy

Total: 27 items, 34 films, 45 discs, -$383 paid (96% coupon use, saving additional $138.4 off sale price)

I'm considering taking back WR: Mysteries of an Organism because that will somehow show token restraint and justify my spending on the sale.

I'm thinking of making a last minute purchase of Tokyo Story but wonder if it will soon be coming on blu.

Any thoughts on the chances of this happening soon?

I was thinking the same thing. I went ahead and just picked up the dvd. If it does come out on bluray, it won't be anytime soon and if it does I can just sell the dvd on ebay. I got it for $13, so it's not that big of a deal if it does get announced.

That's the beauty of these super low prices. Criterions tend to hold their value, so you can usually sell them for what you paid, or at the very least, minus the cost of a rental.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

Interesting. Went to a SoCal store today to pick up 'Monsoon Wedding' and 'Last Day at Marienbad' Blu Rays. Swiping my member coupon took off 10% first. Then they applied 2 separate $5 coupons to make each $13.47 +tax. That's the lowest I have paid since I began on this spending spree last Saturday.

Couldn't give up the bug and ending up ordering these online:

The Secret of the Grain

Metropolitan
Rififi

I think I'm done but I've said that several times. Made an online order because my membership expired and I found some bn e-certificates I had forgotten I had. Takes the sting out of not being able to use the $5 off coupons.
