I'd be happy with 1 Blow.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

Found a Royal Tenenbaums today with the slipcover. I'd seen the BVE versions before in the regular keep-case with different artwork, but never this version. I try and avoid DVDs these days, but at $7, I couldn't pass it up.

Does anyone know if the slipcover version is rare? Also, if you have one, do you prefer the slip, or the "Go Mordecai!" artwork on the case? (It seems to match the Rushmore and Bottle Rocket artwork better than the group shot on the slip).

I threw away the slipcover, I think it looks much classier without one.

Which means that you can't expect a special order to be 2-3 business days every time. Submitting a special order this close to the end of the sale is something of a gamble.

Yesterday I bought Days of Heaven BD using the $5 off DVD coupon after reading all the rave reviews here.

I'm itching to go back but I'm not sure what else I must have.
Unless you already have them or want to wait for their potential future BD releases, I'd recommend: Kieslowski's The Double Life of Veronique (I have both the Criterion DVD and the Artificial Eye BD of this beautiful film!), Kurosawa's Ran or Kagemusha (BD).

OOP, and tough to find. Has anyone seen any of these recently?

I put in a special order for Mafioso on Friday morning, and got a call tonight (Wednesday) around 8pm.

Taxes kill most of the deal with the B&N sale given the county I have to go into charges a county sale tax on top of a state tax, which comes to about $5-6 (basically, I'm getting each disc ~40% off). It comes out to about the same price anyways. It's also the fact the nearest B&N is 1 1/2 hour away minus traffic. It's just not feasible, otherwise I'd do it.

I still have my slipcover because I like the way it resembles a book.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

Was able to find Pierrot Le Fou BD tonight, only one I have seen. Also bought Kapo based on peoples thoughts (my first EAH).

I have done a bit of ordering online through B&N and also noticed The Pacific BD is the cheapest I've seen online through them at $63.99 plus either B&N members discount or other 10% discount. Thought about making seperate thread but not sure if it was found cheaper. Still good Deal!

Aside from being a standup film, I checked out the commentary on my older copy Solaris tonight... not only is the film excellent (slow and philosophical) but the supplements delivery. If anyone's looking for recommendations and somehow doesn't own this consider it.

I saw this for the first time in a theatre recently and bought the DVD to see it again. Just glancing at some parts of the film: the DVD has richer color and better contrast.

Got an email that my order is ready for pickup.

Had good luck in Manhattan today -- picked up 10 more titles. Only about 10 left on my wish list now.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

So, I live in the Vancouver B.C area, and over the weekend I went on a camping trip in Wash State, and one day was spent shopping in the Seattle area.

So I hit up 3 Barnes & Nobles and picked up the following.

Drunken Angel
Ikiru
Postwar Kurosawa Eclipse Boxset
Early Bergman Eclipse Boxset
The Magic Flute
The Lady Vanishes
La Strada
Masculin Feminin
The Double Life of Veronique
The Lady Eve
Monty Python's Life Of Brian
The Young Mr Lincoln
Les Enfants Terribles

I was able to use 5 seperate 5 dollar off coupons in total. One store allowed 3 on 6 purchases, another allowed 2 on 4. While one wouldn't allow me to use any.

However, all 3 of them let me fill out of state tax exempt forms. So I paid no tax on any dvd, including non criterion purchases. So I saved about 40 dollars in taxes alone.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

My haul, made over many trips to B&N:

Beauty and the Beast
Throne of Blood
Last Year at Marienbad (BR)
The Last Metro (BR)
High and Low

The Leopard BR
The Bad Sleep Well
Le Cercle Rouge

The Red Shoes (BR)
Stray Dog

Postwar Kurosawa
Oshima's Outlaw Sixties

Black Narcissus BR

Red Beard

The Adventures of Antione Dionel

Kagemusha (BR)
The Passion of Joan of Arc

The Hit
Red Desert (BR)
L'Avventura
Make Way for Tomorrow
Floating Weeds (EAH)

I was able to use coupons on every time I was there except for Kagemusha, The Passion of Joan of Arc, and for Black Narcissus. The last time I was there I had the $5 off $50 and a $5 off any dvd and the girl at the register took the coupons and figured out a way for me to use both coupons, which was cool of her.

Now I think I am done. Although I might pick up Tokyo Story, but I have a feeling that it might get a bluray release soon.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but has anyone been successful in getting Wings of Desire to ring up at the correct price in-store? That's one of the last titles still hanging around on my wish list.

I went ahead and bought it in the store at the higher price. It put me over $50 so I was able to use the $5 off $50 in addition to the $5 off DVD/CDs which made the higher price acceptable.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

Making my last purchase wondering which I should buy Black Narcissus BD or Days of Heaven BD. Saw Black Narcissus in the original release from CC and just too put over by the movie.... and don't know anything about Days of Heaven but its been pretty highly recognized here (love Thin Red Line). So seeing how this is a must choose ONE not both... which one? Any recommendations appreciated.

Obviously, you need both. However, since you've seen one and not t'other, that's the one to get.

Also for anyone interested Touchez Pas Au Grisbi OOP is available at DVDempire.com for $19.47 (free shipping on orders $25+). I couldn't find it at any B&N close to me and its not available on their website. Thought I would pass it along to anyone interested.
