Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Dropped by Big Lots today and bought:

Undead or Alive (Chris Kattan zombie western)
Rocket Science (Anna Kendrick)
Wise Guys (Piscopo, Devito)

Undead or Alive did not have a slashed bar code but the other two did.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Stopped by a BL just off I-40 on the west side of Oklahoma City today. Saw several of the new WB display titles (the 4 sided wire rack & a 3x3' cardboard display with 2 top layers and a lower "slotted" layer) and picked up:

"Babylon 5: The Lost Tales"
"The Invasion" (Nicole Kidman/Daniel Craig)

both $3, both slashed, as were all the new WB titles.

Stopped in the "home" store to snag a loaf of bread for supper, asked about the new stuff as there are a couple I didn't see in OK and was told there were "lots in the back, but they've not put any out yet".

Interesting. About 3/4 of the new $3 Warner batch I've seen were unslashed.

The $5 Warner batch we got here were all slashed, though.

[QUOTE=djskyler;10251042]Found a brand new tri-tiered display of the new WB $3 titles, stacked so high it's impossible to access the bottom layer at this time.

If parts of the display are detachable, take them off the top and put them on the floor but DO NOT DO NOY DO NOT put the stuff back. If not detachable, just pull mdse. off the top till you can shop the display. Put it anywhere, even throw it in a shopping cart. If an employee comes by and says something, tell them you are a customer who might want of buy some of that mdse. Keep shopping and leave everything where you left it when done. It's possible those morons won't do that again.

I disagree with the above. It's a good way to piss off the managers & employees who are nice to us collectors.

That and imagine being the next customer to come in and finding the DVD display being destroyed with piles on the floor and in nearby carts.

I don't get upset at the big mountain of DVDs that are put out which sometimes make it hard to get to some. I'm happy that they've put them out in such large quantities rather than setting up a smaller display with boxes of unopened DVDs in the back.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

^Exactly! I'll go as far as to organize the bins/displays a bit while I'm shopping. It makes it easier for me *and* the moron who just dumps it all in a cart/on the floor. Many times this has paid off in that I've made enough extra room that they'll bring out some more "new" product! I see it as a win-win.

From personal experience it *pays well* to get on the good side of those who put out new DVD merchandise.

Well enough to get trips to the storage area for a browse through unopened boxes of new stock!

Well enough to get desired titles *held* for later pickup!

Well enough to get calls when new stock hits the floor and they've been alerted that you're looking for this to occur!

I could go on but it all boils down to just be friendly, courteous, say "please" and "thank you"... you know... the things you should have learned in Kindergarten.

There's stuff from the Valentine Day $3 dumps up to the Father's Day ESPN and PV $5 deal still in pretty heavy quantities. And the new bunch of $5 mostly Warner stuff was in full stock. In the last couple of weeks,I've broken a rule and bought some $5 stuff, though all of it was with a good reason. For $5:Jaws 2 disc Standard,Bonnie & Clyde 2 disc,Superman I four disc(primarily for the score and remastered cartoons,as I'm not a big fan of the actual movie)Amadeus(single disc, but a favorite) and the Unforgiven(as good as Eastwood can get,I guess). Lots of those bad $3 multipacks,no 5 disc Bronx(I did find one at another store a few weeks ago, thanks to this forum and contributers pointing out what to look for). In general, though, that $5 price point is to be avoided for common stuff and certainly no blind buys. I have a theory that, though Warner was POed that their landfill stuff found it's way to the marketplace, they have made a deal with BL to get rid of even more stuff(e.eg.-Superman)and,though the price was higher for BL,they are probably getting away with the higher price point and higher margins. If it don't work out, they can lower the price or have a multi sale some dead weekend this summer.
What store did you go to? The one in Trexlertown?

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Yesterday, at the Big Lots in North Fort Myers, Florida, I picked up:

Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains
Black Magic
Splendor in the Grass (Remastered edition that came out in 2009)
Friday the 13th: The Series - Season 2

And on a side note, I also purchased a candle that looks like a cupcake. How did I survive before Big Lots?

Nice find! I'll have to go back this weekend and see if they got anything new. My store has been pretty weak compared to the rest of the stuff everyone's finding.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Don't think The Outrage (Western remake of Rashoman with Paul Newman) has been mentioned yet. I am curious but doesn't seem to be a well reviewed movie.

Also, finally found Strangers on a Train 2-disc (btw without UPC slash). Now if I could just find M Butterfly my life will be complete (...oh and Friday the 13th Season 2 :O ).

I have never seen more copies of Mystic River full screen single disc in one place before as at Phamer Ln in Austin, TX.

It's impossible but I'm remembering the early attempt to keep a running log of EVERY title EVER spotted at Big Lots.

That has become an unenviable task by now, I'm sure.

I appreciate the efforts of those who kept it going for so long, but there has been too much coming in over the past year or so.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I met a really nice employee today that recognized me from this past weekend. She said she got some new movies in and offered to go get them for me. She pulled out 4 big boxes and let me go through them, then put them back in storage.

I ended up buying:

Cruising: Deluxe Ed. (Pacino)
Exorcist II: The Heretic
National Lampoon's European Vacation
Strangers on a Train: 2disc SE
Superman II: 2disc SE
THX 1138: Director's Cut

...only Cruising and THX were slashed.
