I no longer remember which movie it was, but I also noticed a 3 pack where one of the dvd's had a Walmart sticker with the price rubbed off underneath what apparently was re-wrap.

A little help in deciphering the 5 discs from the 3 discs(dont know if had already been said or not). The 3 disc version will straight up say 3 disc at the top of DVD cover, the 5 disc says World Championship Limited Edition. The spines are also noticibly different. The 5 disc set has quite a thicker spine.
Do yourself a favor and return the AMC titles as fast as you can unless they include a couple of films you *have* to have and can't find anywhere else. The quality on all of the AMC/TV guide sets is beyond bad.

And to make the distinction a bit easier on "The Bronx is Burning"...

3 disk - keep case
5 disk - digipak about twice the thickness of a keep case with *no* slipcase. i.e. - it's obvious that it's a digipak.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

It's been quite awhile since I watched one, but in the past I found the AMC titles to generally be of higher quality then Alpha, but pretty crummy compared to some of the other pd companies.

I was really surprised to see with the 3 packs that Genius did arthouse films in addition to the pd crap.

I've usually found Roan to be by far the highest quality of the public domain dvd companies, but since Troma bought Roan, they haven't been releasing much new stuff.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I want to give a huge to "Black Magic", a two-disc ESPN Films documentary which is part of the sports three-packs being found. Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson & Wynton Marsalis, it's loaded with early footage of legendary black college and NBA players. Names you've heard of but never seen play are shown on the court! EVERYBODY is in this: Wilt, Russ, Elgin, Big O, Doc, Willis Reed and on and on. This is Ken Burns-quality directed by Dan Klores and I can't recommend it more strongly.

Found DC Cab and bought it for a lousy $3 at one in Sugar Land. It seemed to be a one-off among many of the usuals and non-interests.

Cousin Bette
American Gigolo
Impulse
Georgy Girl

Has anybody bought the AMC Classic Beauties set? Even knowing this is pd and likely not a good print I'm really tempted as the set is four Vivien Leigh movies (plus super common Elizabeth Taylor PDs) two of which are extremely rare SIDEWALKS OF LONDON (ST MARTINS LANE) and STORM IN A TEACUP. Is it at least watchable?

I found the 3 pack that had Strings, Tarnation, and Incubus in it.

I also got the Greatest American Hero, and a few of the game show sets.

I thought about 21 Jump Street but figured I didn't like it enough even for 5 bucks.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

The Decatur GA Big Lots just got in a bunch of the individual DVDs yesterday.

They must have just arrived since they were on a multi-level, wheeled cart that had been rolled over next to the regular DVD display shelves. Looked like 4 shelves with 2 flats of DVDs per shelf.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Sorry for going a bit off topic, but during my last trip to big lots, I noticed a few movies priced at $5.00 instead of $3.00. Has anyone else seen this?

I found a few new Warner titles. All with slashed UPCs.

They included:
TMNT
Hairspray (J. Travolta version) widescreen
Exorcist 3

I picked it up for 3 bucks, its hard to beat. No the print is not very good, but it is at least watchable. It looks like a direct transfer from a beat up version of a VHS tape that was a 10 year rental at Blockbuster. I watched St Martins Lane and Storm in a Teacup to check them out, and they are by no means the pristine cleaned up black and white DVDs that we are used to. The price is right on these, all of the movies in total are worth 3 bucks for this quality.

Regarding questions about the $5 dollar DVDs that were noticed at Big Lots, these are the previously viewed lot that just arrived at Big Lots in my area today.

I picked up
Wolverine
Max Payne
Land of the Lost
Tropic Thunder
GI Joe
Frost Nixon
Kite Runner
Knowing
Despereaux
Transformers (Revenge of the Fallen)
Food Inc
The Girl Friend Experience
Drag me to Hell

My guess these are from the closed Hollywood Video chain, as more and more rental stores start going under.

I'd pay $5 for GFE if it wasn't a rental return.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I have never understood why people freak out over something being a former rental.

I bought the Girlfriend Experience at Movie Gallery for 1.50 and guess what...brand new looking disc!

So if the dvd is mint, whats the difference? Just want to spend more money on exactly the same thing?

The difference to me is, at Big Lots, you can't have the employees open the case up and let you look at the desk. I've never tried it, so I don't know what Big Lots' policy is, but my fear has always been that if I bought a used disc at Big Lots and opened it and it was damaged, I'd be screwed.

Used or not if there is a problem with it and you return it *with your receipt* within the 30 day limit you should have no problem. If they have another copy they'll let you exchange it. Otherwise you should receive a refund.
