Yet Another Anchor Bay Sale from DD

It's pretty much the same sale they have every three months, except this time they aren't doing BOGO. So if there's one title you want but haven't found anything to pair it with, now's you're chance.

I'm going to pick up the Argento and Herzog sets, after which I believe I'll own every AB title I'm interested in.

Re: Yet Another Anchor Bay Sale from DD

^^The Herzog set is $26.99 at Amazon, so a better deal there than at DD's $32.99. Likewise, the Argento box is $20.99 at Amazon vs. $22.99 at DD. (Herzog/Kinski is also $6 better at Amazon, if that's the one you meant.)

Pretty nice prices at Amazon, I must say...

Have the prices changed yet? Some of them aren't very good.

Re: Yet Another Anchor Bay Sale from DD

Did Amazon match the prices on the Mario Bava Sets or are they always $22-23?

Re: Yet Another Anchor Bay Sale from DD

very good price on 3rd rock, a brilliantly written sitcom. millcreek just picked up the rights to both 21 jump street and hunter and should start releasing them in the next few months at low prices. personally I am hoping that they will pick up the rights to "the a team" as well

Love the thread title... not the prices. Just going from memory these appear to be, on average, a few $$ higher than the "traditional" B1G1 prices on AB titles. Although, as you mentioned, it *is* a good time for picking up that "odd" title...

What happened to them? Did they go out of business? If so did they sell all the rights to someone else or are some of these DVDs going out of print soon and will jump in price on eBay?

The best deal on them I think was last summer, a B1G1 sale at deepdiscount, I got both for around $30

this site might help with a price history, both of them are on there:

Looks to me like AB's licenses just expired on a lot of the titles they had. All of the Studio Canal titles they released are now over at Lionsgate it seems, the Fox titles they had are all out of print (and command top dollar on the secondary market -- titles like 29TH STREET, THE ENTITY, etc.), the Universal titles are long gone...as the DVD market expanded it seemed like studios were less willing to license some of their catalog titles to them, preferring instead to release them on their own (more or less).

They still do release some catalog product like SPRING BREAK (from Sony/Columbia) and such, and they still own the rights to HALLOWEEN, EVIL DEAD, etc. They're also now owned by the Starz cable channel, as opposed to being fully independent as they used to be.

^And it seems too coincidental that shortly after being purchased by Starz their catalog began to shrink dramatically. I don't remember the last new title released by AB. It seems as if all the announcements are for OOP titles.

Yeah, it does seem like Anchor Bay's focus shifted after the Starz buyout; might just be a coincidence and a lot of their licenses expired around that time, also might be that Starz is changing the focus of the brand away from horror and cult films.

Of course a lot of this seems to have started when Lustig left to form Blue Underground and took a number of the licenses with him.
