no joke
But for those who somehow missed out on the BN.com sale, here are some for a wee bit cheaper.

Meh, as they say. I was able to stack $5 off coupons with the BN, getting them for between $13 and $14 a piece. Took care of my wishlist until the next sale!

They did this at the end of the last B&N sale too, put a bunch of titles on sale at the end. I think some of the prices were lower too; I remember getting Amarcord two-disc for $15.99.
Even though I'm not a member, I do have a AAA membership that takes 10% off at B&N, so these amazon prices are actually a bit higher than what I was paying at B&N (because I'd typically stack some coupon with the 10% off). Don't see anything I need in this batch anyhow.

Am thinking of getting Friends of Eddie Coyle because of all of the positive comments here, but it looks like it does not come with subtitles.
Can anybody confirm this? Thanks in advance.

Only on select Criterions - Diabolique is $27.xx; I almost grabbed it ab B&N for $12.xx but shied away because I think DVD Beaver gave it a pretty poor review for quality.
And Fiend without a Face never seems to go on sale - $35 for a single-disc release with a skimpy booklet? Someone really needs to do a reality check at Criterion

I just popped it in my computer and although there is no menu option to select subtitles, it does let you turn on subtitles (closed captions?) once you start the movie.

Wings of Desire is one of my favorite art films. I picked up the blu-ray from B&N and watched the first half this evening. A couple of nit-picks:
--Only the German/French parts are subtitled; I hate it when Criterion doesn't sub-title the spoken English on their DVD's. The MGM DVD has two English subtitles - one with everything sub-titled and the other just the non-English; at least you can choose which one you prefer. Shame on Criterion for not porting this over.
--I personally like the slightly tinted color scheme on the MGM DVD. I know Wenders supervised the Criterion and the b/w is director approved...I just feel the tinting on the MGM gave it a more ethereal quality in keeping with the theme of the film.
--The image is certainly sharper on the blu-ray...yet still not blow-your-mind hi-def like "Blade Runner" (keep in mind I've only had my blu-ray for about a week and have only a dozen or so titles).

Gonna buy Playtime tomorrow (when I buy Fast & Furious for $10), that is one I didn't get a chance to grab from B&N.

Too bad the BD of Monterey Pop isn't part of the sale. The DVD is a whopping 60% off, and the BD's list price is actually $10 less.
