Re: Warner Archive sales

Per a mailing from oldies.com, there's now a "FOD" (Fox on Demand) same as the others: rare, burned, overpriced.

Yep, these are the first batch from Fox:

I picked up 4 on pre-order during the ImportCds 10% off sale for $13.50 each.

Not the most exciting list of titles. I can see why these are MODs. Maybe better titles are coming.

Re: Warner Archive sales

So I guess that leaves Paramount as the only studio left to go MOD?

Disney as well, but I'm sure that will happen and they will no doubt offer letterboxed versions of their previously fullscreen releases. It's a racket and any studio not jumping on the bandwagon is missing easy profit, something they rarely do.

They're pressed, not burned DVDs, though.

Are you 100% certain? If so I'm definitely in on 5, & would get 4 eventually.

Re: Warner Archive sales

According to the WAC website the FB 4 & 5 are "Format: Made To Order DVD".

Re: Warner Archive sales

Moo x4 is correct - these are DVD-Rs

UPDATE: Err, maybe I spoke too soon. In this New York Post article Lou Lumenick claims "Warners' George Feltenstein told me these sets will initially be available as pressed DVD discs, at least until the initial limited run is exhausted and they're switched over to WAC's normal burned-on-demand DVD-R format."
I'm sure not going to drop any money on it until I hear back from people who actually received pressed discs.

If it's a lim ed pressed, I'd also like to know for sure. Will watch this thread & Amazon. Has anyone had luck calling WAC in the past?

Re: Warner Archive sales

It appears they're already out. $40 each + s/h. I'm almost certain they were $35 as a pre-order. I didn't think they were coming out this quick.

I am broke beyond belief, but i will try to find a way to call WAC tomorrow & ask about these.

So far, no sign of them at Amazon.

Re: Warner Archive sales

I emailed their cs on this topic (FH 4 & 5 pressed or burned?).

Re: Warner Archive sales

Someone over at the Home Theater Forum posted that they already got a copy, and it was pressed discs. I've just ordered both sets, and I'll post here when I get them to confirm (unless we've already gotten other confirmation by then).

For what it's worth, the DEALS10 coupon code worked for my order.

Re: Warner Archive sales

I tried DEALS10 and it did take the coupon but canceled the free shipping and replaced it with a 2.50 shipping charge - the overall difference actually brought my order total up about 50 cents. Had to clear my cookies, go back and start over to undo the coupon.
YMMV

Re: Warner Archive sales

It did the same to me, but between taking $10 off, and then adding in $2.50, I was still $7.50 ahead.

Re: Warner Archive sales

here's one of the reasons i don't like ordering from WAC.

I asked,

"There is a rumor going around that the 1st pressing of Forbidden Hollywood 4 & 5 are going to be factory pressed, rather than burned. Is that correct?"

they answered,

"Thank you for your interest in the Warner Archive. We're thrilled to be offering many titles from the Warner Bros vaults that were never before released on DVD. While we can't comment on release plans for specific titles, we can tell you that each month, more and more films and TV series will be made available. check out some of the titles we're currently offering, and check back soon to see more.

Yep. Sounds like a cs rep didn't bother reading the short question either.

Re: Warner Archive sales

I really can't afford these, but if there's a limited time to get factory pressed................

Question: many (most?!) of you are much better than I at figuring out net sales & coupons. Is there anything stackable other than the free shipping at $50 at this time that would get the price down?
