The best designed site of its kind I've ever stumbled upon. Detailed info, front/back cover scans for the vast majority of listed titles, easy to browse various genres, studios, etc. Only wish DVD Empire could offer or be some type of partner in a media collecting site using all of that info and design.

Nice looking site, and it has reasonable shipping options. However, I doubt I'll do much if any shopping there unless there are some real bargains. Training Day BD is nearly double the price of Amazon. What a laugh. Best Buy without the blue shirts. Hell, Walmart was selling it for $14 a year ago or more. I hope to get it for under $10 sometime soon. Too bad Amazon/Walmart don't stock porn. The prices would probably be a lot better. ;)

I got a question here. Is there any reasons that you don't list/sell any Bandai Entertainment releases past mid-May '09?

plus one hundred trillion.

happy to see you here dvdempire! as an infrequent customer for years, i like that yous guys are trying different things out - rotating sales, monthly coupons, contest give-aways, used dvds, free shipping, etc.

that said, i am hoping yous guys will become more and more competitive with the bottom dollar without sacrificing the excellent customer service you have :D

We, including myself, are aren't too hard to please. Keep the great design, info, quality customer service and packaging.. but be as competitive as possible on pricing. Yes, please. :)

I'd love to use DVDempire more, but the talk of competitive pricing has been too kind. It's just even close to Amazon.

I mean, my goal in ordering online is to avoid customer service anyway. Amazon is not that bad and certainly not bad enough for me to pay so much more for my blu's.

My Sister's Keeper is $19.99 at Amazon and $28.99 at Empire.

Fight Club is like $18 at Amazon and $24 at Empire.

Why would anyone pay so much more? Every time I look there hoping for a deal, the prices never seem to get closer.

And I live in a suburb of a city with an Amazon fulfillment center where over 90% of what I order comes from. I get 2 day shipping without having to pay for it.

I'd still consider waiting longer, but like everyone else, for better prices/deals.

Viper 187 & dolphinboy, thanks for the insights regarding Blu-ray pricing. We will begin re-evaluating our Blu-ray prices in the coming weeks. However, we try to be competitive by way of our featured Blu-ray sales & specials.

We are currently running sales on Fox Blu-rays for as low as $14.99 and another sale on Universal Blu-rays starting at $17.99.

Well, if you want to bring up Fox, I'd really like to know why price drops on old BS christmas movies take so long to happen. I can't even get Jingle All the Way (BD) for under $20 on Amazon Marketplace for christ sakes. A catalog title from the 90s that's been on BD nearly a year now is NOT worth $20+. I'd pay that for Star Wars, maybe, but not a goddamn governator flick. Here's hoping the DD 25% later this month makes it a little more worth picking up. I'd really like to dump my VHS.

I ask this purely to gauge enthusiasm, but what if DVD Empire were offer their own media collecting database? Would that be of interest to anyone?

We will be adding the Lucky Star and Gundam titles which we are missing shortly. There are also 3 Pre-Announced Titles from Bandai not yet available for pre-order. Aside from these titles, we are currently up to date on the rest of the Bandai catalog to the best of our knowledge.

heck yeah. but please elaborate once you have any details :D

as far as pricing goes, from my experience, dvdempire has decent prices in two situations:

1) stuff on sale in conjunction with a coupon

2) titles that almost never go on sale anywhere, that for some reason, is competitively priced at dvdempire, in conjunction with a coupon

conclusion: dont get rid of the coupons. in fact, i would even suggest making them multiple use. hey why not?

a side question, since we seem to have your attention... dvdempire seems to be out of stock of titles almost as soon as one goes out of print. just curious why?

If I’m understanding the question correctly, it’s probably a case of the demand for a title increasing as the availability of that title decreases.

If it is done well, definite interest. But if it is more along the lines of just adding a "My Collection" type of section to currently listed releases and that is about it, no interest.

It would probably take adding a separate section/site dedicated to the media collecting aspects utilizing the current info with a slightly modified layout suited for its goals. In order to do it like a legitimate media collecting site, would require users to be able to add releases from around the world, edit and contribute information as needed, rate/review titles, track owned/ordered/watched etc., offer things like collection statistics..

Edit. But given how well the site has been designed, I have little doubt those people could create something of good quality if it was deemed worthwhile to the company.

i concur.

my mentioned question as to the "details" was actually specifically addressed to what is the motivation for this media database? even more specifically, will this be a freebie with little or no attachments for the collector?

not terribly important, just something i wondered. many a time when a dvd title goes out of print, dvdempire is usually one of the first online retailers that seem to no longer carry it. maybe yous guys just sell them out quicker than the rest? maybe you do an excellent job keeping inventory tight? maybe you send them back to a distributor? just curious.

hey and thanks for taking the time. highly appreciated and makes my dvd-nerd heart warm and fuzzy :D

I have never ordered but I visit DVDEmpire all the time, the detailed info and cover scans are great... barely any other places have a back cover scan. :)

You know... that might be a good idea. I already use DVD Empire as a research tool; such as finding the UPC or back cover images of DVDs, particularly out-of-print releases that other retailers have taken off their sites.

So, yeah, I'd be down for it so long as adding titles to your collection is a quick affair (as opposed to Amazon where you scroll down 2/3 to reach that tiny "I own this title" checkbox).

Must agree with this--love the DVD Empire site with the cover scans, etc. (the search could be a bit better--i.e. entering a title into keyword search doesn't give good results, offer ability to search both dvd/blu at same time)
However the prices are far from competitive--even with the coupons. I don't mind waiting on shipping as long as the item price is cheap (heck I shop at Deep Discount which takes weeks to get your order). I always shop at the store which gives the cheapest price--doesn't matter to me who it is.
The general prices on DVDEmpire often remind me of borders.com -- where there is little to no discount off MSRP. There is an occasional deal, but they seem to be few and far between. When I order online, I expect to see 30-40% off MSRP as the general price discount--and then sale prices/coupons to bring it even lower.
