Daybreak - Complete Series: $5 at Target

I saw this at Target today, the short-lived series with Taye Diggs. It's a repackaged version from Mill Creek. They had several others, I remember seeing Wiseguy and Wanted: Dead or Alive, but they were "season 1, volume 1" sets (not the entire season)

Daybreak - Complete Series has also been in WalMart $5 bin.

Hulu has the complete series online as well. I was disappointed when ABC canned it. Just a few weeks ago, I was glad to finish the series. 3 years later!

thought it ended nicely

According to the info I could find, this newer Mill Creek 2-DVD release takes away the 5.1 soundtrack and compresses the video more to fit what originally took 4 DVDs onto 2 DVDs. Even though it's only $5, I'm not sure if I want to buy something that has been stripped down from the original OOP release.

Are Target, Walmart's $5 bin, and Walmart.com all selling this same 2-DVD release? I assume yes or they would be charging more. I can see why the (better) OOP 4-DVD release sells for a lot more more.

According to amazon reviews, this $5 set is only 2 discs, and in order to fit all the episodes on these 2 discs, they replaced the 5.1 soundtrack with a stereo one and there's quite a bit of video compression.

from the 2 episodes i saw when it debuted on tv this show seemed to have a lot of promise. shame that it was cut down so quickly and i wasn't too keen on watching it stream on the internet. the 5.1 sound would be nice, but for $5 i can live without. definitely gonna try to find it so thanks for the heads up!

I picked this up a few days ago. I also saw Sherlock Holmes The Complete Series there for $5. I highly recommend that to anyone who doesn't have it.

I don't have surround sound and most of the time i use 20 dollar headphones so it doesn't bother me at all.

im sure audio freaks will be disappointed but you can always buy it from amazon for 10-15

Got mine... Can seesome Video Compression artifacts... Sound on some episodes is lower than other ones... Still not a bad buy for $5... The packaging inside the case is weird.. The case is like the big 2-Disc'ers from long ago.. but inside there is a compartment with the 2 DVDs setting in it with Paper Sleeves.. total bizarro...

That's what I kept reading in the Amazon reviews, but it's not how mine is at all. The one I got at Wal-Mart is a standard single-width keep case, like this. No paper sleeves.

I just bought it recently, and it is a very good well written show, with alot of action, the picture quality really isnt bad considering the compression, and it is in widescreen and they have retained the commentaries on all episodes

Does the series have an ending or does the 13th episode leave you hanging?

The show was always intended to be 13 episodes. Now had it been successful, they could have done more, but the 13 episodes are a complete story.

One of my favorite arc series ever. Bought the BCI release from CH on release day.

was thinking I might sell mine to newbury too :), but now that I read about the compression problems, will definately keep my copy.

I bought this the week it originally came out. I wanted to support the fact that they filmed all the planned episodes and were able to release a complete story. I had hopes that more studios would pick up on this. If a series is being canceled, try and wrap up the story in the remaining episodes, or better yet while you still have the cast together and all the sets film enough footage to give the story some kind of ending. I liked Invasion and bought the set when it dropped below $20.00. It is kind of annoying knowing that the last episode ends with a lot of unanswered questions.

That's how all of Mill Creek packages look.

Once again, it's not how my Mill Creek set looks. I don't have a photo of it to post, but picture this with discs in it. ;) No paper sleeves, and no wider than a standard keep case. Guess I got lucky!
