Picked up a few things from a Kroger grocery story today. Received back a coupon printed from the register with a one-time-rental code (expiring 11/30). It stated it was compliments of Frito-Lay, Pepsi-Cola, Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Popping Corn and The Hershey Company. Don't know exactly what you have to buy to get the code--I only had purchased 3 2-liters.

I'll go a step further. In this area of the country, the Redbox machines started showing up at McDonald's first if I recall. They had free codes put on the sides of large drinks for a while to promote them. It was only later that they started appearing at Wal-marts and other stores.

Around here, they are mostly in grocery stores, pharmacies, a few gas stations, and Walmart. Again, no McDonald's.

I tried to rent two free movies in one booth using the same coupon. It worked for one movie but it declined to accept the coupon for second separate rental. I tried different c cards but it did nto work.
solution: I opened new account and used different CC and then it did work.
