1.79 - 1.97 titles at FYE (in store)

nothing spectacular but did spot:
King Kong (1976)
Truman Show (orig release)
Beavis and Butthead do America (orig release)
Airplane (orig release)
An Officer and a Gentleman (orig release)
Clueless (orig release)
Fun with Dick and Jane (w/ Jane Fonda)
Mission Impossible (orig release)
Being Julia
Crime Boss (w/ Telly Savalas)
A Different Story
Tony Little Body Shaping

Some other TV movies and such.

Some of these were marked 1.79 (which was probably a mistake), 1.97 and 4.97. So even though the ones listed above might be marked higher, it's worth a try to see if they ring up lower.

Usually I only go for the best releases available, but for 2 bucks I compromised.

I've seen these, though figured it might be YMMV on titles being available at that price and which titles were actually there.

At a Sam Goody last week, I picked up:

The Contender
King Kong (1976)
The Truman Show
Havana

Previously picked up at FYE:
Faith Rewarded: 2004 Red Sox
American Flyers

All of which were even cheaper for me since I was still in my 30 day free trial for the Backstage VIP deal, getting 10% off of each one.

Beware some of these may be FULL SCREEN , I saw a bunch of these at these prices a month ago and everyone I picked up was Full Screen.

I'll keep an eye out for the Contender. I've been wanting to re-buy that movie.

OT, but... I thought Sam Goody had gone under. I certainly recall shopping at the Sam Goody liquidations a few years ago. Typo?

No mistake. I thought like you, and was surprised to see one. I was on the road and swung on by the Big Lots in Madisonville, KY. Right next door is a Sam Goody. Just now I googled Sam Goody in Madisonville and pulled up the address and phone # for it. FYI--the second hit on that google search is that samgoody.com is now fye.com.

Add 'The Interpreter' to the list. But watch out. Plenty of 'foolscreen' though, watch out

I got two movies I normally wouldn't have purchased... unless they were $1.97 :)

Nothing But Trouble
When A Stranger Calls (remake)

Musicland/Sam Goody merged with Trans World Entertainment (Record Town, Tape World, Coconuts...etc) quite some time ago. Before that, TWEC also acquired Camelot/The Wall/Specs, Strawberries and Warehouse among others). It was only within the last 5 or so years that they started doing away with the multiple store names and re-branding most everything as FYE. If you hit up a liquidation sale, it was most likely just at a location they were closing.

Also, for anyone interested in picking up any of these flicks at the $1.97 price, you'd better do it before Tuesday. While picking up a copy Airplane and Gallipoli today, the manager informed me it was good I was buying them now, as they were going up in price (I think to $4.97 or more) on the 11th.

Actually all the Sam Goody's in the NY/NJ area liquidated & disappeared a few years ago (even before Tower went under). I assumed they all did, so this was interesting news. Thanks guys!
PS - I sorely miss the original Sam Goody store in Paramus NJ (before they went chain). It was the most amazing store with the largest selection of LP's, 45's, tapes, sheet music, instruments/amps, & stereo equipment in NJ. Gone are the days...
