Interesting if the DC is actually available. The director, Donald Cammell committed suicide over the butchered version of this film that the studio released. The studio was not involved with the release of the DC as it was done by Tartan Video and had only been available in PAL format, which is why I'm wondering if there is a region 1 version available at BL. The above mentioned sex scene may be the only reason some would care about this movie, but it's fun if you're into movies that are a little twisted. Christopher Walken is over the top in his role and I would actually recommend either version of the movie, but the DC definitely fleshes the story out by a good bit.

I did some more research.

There are 3 versions of the film. The version I have is NOT the 111min directors cut. It is 96 mins. When I watched it I noticed the sex scenes were longer than the version I saw on tv awhile back, and I assumed that meant it was the directors cut. I read that there was a longer graphic version and a version that HBO reedited to tone down the sex. Then there is the directors cut. So I was wrong. What I did get was the original version with the sex scenes untrimmed. BUT, the thing about having a 50/50 shot of getting this or the hacked version still rings true. I would love to see the directors cut come to region 1 though.

I have always been interested in Cry Wolf, but every version I have seen from every BL I have been has always been full frame. Hopefully a WS version will show up locally one day. In the meantime, enjoy the disc!!

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Still a ton of slashed WB titles available here... Horror doubles, etc. Ho hum.

The only new titles spotted this week are two packs for $8...

Funny Girl/Funny Lady
I Know What You Did Last Summer/I Still Know What You Did Last Summer ($3 individually )
Dogtown & Z Boys/Grateful Dawg

A few others... Picked up nothing and really wish this overstock would move out of here. The other DVD vulture scanning the carcass also left empty handed.

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Burien Wa yesterday had some of the last 2 warner batches & some of the last Legend batch. Not sure if they were picked out or had no space as the wire rack was overflowing but many titles from the noted batches were missing.

Also had an interesting experience: There were 3 of us looking at the same time. One was obviously a reseller. He was quite polite. The other who appeared to be a consumer was a jerk. He was sitting & going very slowly through 1 side of the rack. It was the only side i hadn't seen. When he was on the right, i tried going to the left & vice versa. I'm used to sharing space in a Big Lots. He demanded that I leave & we almost got in a fight. I wisely decided it was smarter not to fight, but note: the guy was NOT a reseller or "hoarder" & he was a JERK.

^ Did you try the "act all excited about something you just found from the opposite side of the display" approach?

I have run into situations like you described. I usually just wander into other parts of the store for a few minutes and come back.

Not that big of a deal. Mostly just mentioned it in response to last month's reseller bashing!

Should have waited for him in the parking lot and followed him home then dove by his house slowly a few times.

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Went back today to grabb some sunchips and NEW TITLES ARE OUT AGAIN!

A small batch of $3 New Line titles, no slashed upc (Odd to me, as WB handles New Line titles)
This was a limited batch. Some had 3 or 4 copies, some only had 1 copy. I was told that these were just put out at 9am, I went there at around 930. So grabb them if you see them at your store, because they will go fast.

Picked up
Mans best friend
Lawnmower Man (Snapper)
Lawnmower Man 2 (Snapper)
Loaded Weapon 1 (Snapper ws/fs)
Surviving the game (Snapper)
Jackie Chan's first strike (Snapper)
Rumble in the Bronx (Snapper)
In the mouth of maddness (Snapper)

Saw but didn't grabb (Already own these)
Willard
Final Destination 1
Final Destination 2
Final Destination 3
Detonantor Double Feature (Perice Brosnan pre bond action flicks)
Jason Vs Freddy
Lost in Space
Last Man Standing
Little Nicky

Tightrope (snapper case)
The Rookie (snapper case)

Blood Alley/The Sea Chase - Double Feature

The Big Bounce
The Unbearable Lightness of Being 2 disc SE
Funny Games

The Warner Bros dvds had slashed UPC codes. Some were very light, others were very deep and a few had a long slash all the way down back of the case.

Also saw a few leftover Black Friday dvds at $3 each:

Cloverfield
The X files: I want to Believe

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Found and picked up today at $3/ea.

John Wayne - Four Feature Film Set (w/"They Were Expendable", "Operation Pacific", "Back to Bataan", and "Flying Leathernecks" on 2 flipper disks)
"Holiday Affair"
"Chamber of Horrors"/"The Brides of Fu Mancu" Double Feature

Couldn't decide on "The Man with the Golden Arm" so I burried a copy for later...

*All* with slashed UPCs. While I really would rather have them non-slashed, it doesn't affect the playback and I don't resell... ever...

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

RE: Wild Side

Leaving aside for the moment the other differences between the Nu Image and Tartan versions of the movie - like the different scores and the revised, linear storyline - and just dealing with the big Chen/Heche sex scene: that scene in "Director's Cut" is largely comprised of different angles and different takes than the ones found in the uncut Nu Image version (that's also true of much of the rest of the DC, not always to its advantage; some scenes appear to be rehearsal footage). So what you get when you see the Nu Image version isn't what you get to see in the DC and vice versa. Considering the footage found in both versions of the scene all together, it would seem that this is one of the best choreographed and most well covered lesbian scenes ever. But it should be said that in the DC the scene is shown in a fragmented, flashback-like manner juxtaposing it with other scenes in the movie and with no sound but the score. It seems to have been cut together to evoke the sex scene in Don't Look Now. Ultimately it doesn't work, IMO, but it's still smoking hot. Anyone interested in Cammell should seek out both versions, and now that at least one of them can be found so cheaply (though not in my area yet, goddammit).

I had purchased the Tartan DC from Amazon UK a few years ago and did seem to notice some differences in the sex scene, but the most noticeable difference in it and the version I had previously seen (not really sure which one - possibly on VHS) was the depth of the story. Supposedly Tartan had used Cammell's own notes in regard to reconstructing the movie as he intended it to be seen. At the time this film was made Joan Chen and Anne Heche were a couple of very fine looking ladies, so it's no wonder that most of the interest in this film was their sex scene. My take on the DC version is that it is a much better film overall than the reduced version. I doubt Tartan would ever sell the rights to the DC version so chances are you would have to buy the PAL version. I have a region free player so didn't have a problem watching it.

I'm kinda curious as to how someone can demand another shopper to leave ? What happened to initiate this response ?

^I wondered the same thing. I'd have been very tempted to call for the manager and complain.

And... "sitting"? In a wheelchair? Pulled up a lawn chair? That sounds like the JERK was intentionally blocking the DVDs and intimidating people by just being there!

Out of curiosity, does the non-snapper case version of JEREMIAH JOHNSON still have both the widescreen and pan & scan versions on it? Second, does it still contain an intermission (that did not exist in the theater) without a chapter stop to allow you to skip it... like the snapper case version does?
