There is a new BL flyer coming Sunday, with a stack of Paramount DVD's pictured for sale at $5. The new price marches on.

I know we're all not happy with this latest batch of DVDs. However, I am glad that we typically spot these discs before they show up in ads made available to the masses.

have to agree...the thrill is gone right now. Not to mention for me it was the classic titles that thrilled me the most and they are not even in these new batches....and no I don't consider 70's & 80's classics. Oh well maybe sales will go down and they will drop them back down to $3 but $5 just isn't worth the drive over.

Nothing new at Pearl Tacoma this week. I'm not going to even bother checking other stores unless i get a ways out of town based on whats been posted here.

The Paramount DVD's *already* at most BL stores is what's listed in that flyer. They just got put out extra early. So, it's nothing new to us... maybe the "unwashed masses" will buy them all and make room for some new $3 stock.

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
They had a small box that was from a drug store buyout. All the DVDs were 1/2 off the price marked. The only thing I saw of interest was:
(price reflects AFTER the discount)
Arnold Schwarzenegger Comedy Favorites Collection (Twins / Kindergarten Cop / Junior) for around 5.00
Sleeping Beauty Plat Ed for around 10.00
Indy 4 2D for around 10.00
There were others, but nothing of real interest or much of a deal (at least to me)

Haven't been to Big Lots in weeks (this year?), but had a BL dream last night.
Went in to my local store and found it totally reorganized, with tons of new stuff, covering all my hobbies since childhood. They had comic books, D&D stuff, and classic video game systems. Was very sad to wake up.

My local BL still has a lot of $3 dvds, but nothing I wanted. BUT three pinkish dvds caught my eye, they were something called the Barbra Streisand collection. I don't think anyone has mentioned these titles so that's why I'm mentioning them:
"Funny Girl", "Funny Lady" and "The Owl and the Pussycat".
They have a lot and I mean a lot of the $5 dvd. They seem to be untouched. I would buy a $5 dvd, but all the ones I saw were fullscreen

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
I picked up the following today:
Dark Passage
Key Largo
Mrs. Miniver
Roger and Me
I was going to get the Spiderwick Chronicles 2-disc for $5, but both discs were floaters.
The only $5 DVD I definitely would have gotten if I didn't have it was the 2-disc Zodiac: Director's Cut. I was tempted to get a bunch of them and give them to friends for their birthdays, but I'm not sure giving them a movie about a serial killer says good things about me!

Went to Kent, Wa yesterday. They tend to get A LOT of dvd's. I was surprised to see they had sold through the majority of the $5 titles, but had more of the weaker $3 titles left from the last 2 batches then what most stores receive in total!
Mind you at about 3:30 PM, the store looked like it had been hit by a hurricane. I've never seen a BL look that trashed. I didn't buy anything.

The $5 Paramounts have extinguished my BL dvd fires. I'm not going to pay $5 for a bunch of "blah" movies, nothing I saw excited me in the slightest. Have to feed my addiction elsewere until/if the prices go down or newer stuff shows up.

One of my closest stores had a huge display of the Universal titles that were first reported about two months ago. I had seen a few here and there before but never a big display with at least 6 copies of each title.
I picked up:
The Trouble With Harry
Psycho III
Out Of Sight (DTS)
Cat People
The Serpent and the Rainbow
The Nude Bomb
Altered
Along Came Polly (Slip Cover stated Full Screen version but case inside stated widescreen. Only one like that.)
Bean
Johnny English
(all the above are widescreen)
They also had:
Breakfast Club (old version)
Alvin and the Chipmunks animated monster double feature
Casino (full screen 10th anniversary)
Lost Highway
Psycho II
Intolerable Cruelty
Traffic: The Mini Series
Man On the Moon
Tales of the Crypt Double Feature and single versions of the movies
...and others that I can't remember.

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
The store closest to me on my way to work,Bethlehem,Pa. finally had the Paramount dump bin that has been discussed here, with no additional titles. I ,too, find nothing of real interest at five bucks. The John Wayne twofer didn't leap out and that is the only one I would consider. The double disc "Dreamgirls" would be only for the one song:"And I'm Telling You",so I think I'll wait. Picked up the "Spin City"as my wife likes Michael Fox and passed on this show on the initial run.
A $3 title that I don't recall seeing in any of my many visits these last few months,is "My Summer Story". A post research shows this title mentioned last August. The artwork looks like a poor man's "Leave It To Beaver"(and the movie version of THAT TV show was a cheat) and the giveaway clue why this is worth picking up is colored in a hard to read yellow. The two grownup stars,Charles Grodin and Mary Steenburgen, have, for me, a spotty track record for quality movies where they play a major part. As mentioned in the earlier posts, this is the 1994 direct sequel to "A Christmas Story",aka "It Runs In the Family". Jean Shepherd co-wrote the screen play and narrates and Bob Clark directs. The use of the two stars make sense,as Clark never spent a buck he couldn't account for and the parents aren't the reason your watching anyway. It all hinges on Ralphie, played here by Kieran Culkin. One of Shep's stories in this is a great one about dinnerware giveaways at the neighborhood second run movie palace. I haven't opened this one yet,but this is exactly what I would gamble for three bucks. Interesting idea, little known, hard to find, never going to find its way on TV and cheap. If I'm disappointed(and Amazon reviews tend to give it at least an OK review)who cares? I always wanted to see this.I just didn't know what I was looking for.

I used to be embarrassed to be seen at Big Lots. the new pricing saves me as I am not gonna be there anytime soon. $5 per title is too much to trade for embarrassment
