Just a "heads up" for those of you interested in the "Kate & Allie" S1 "set". This was a mid-season replacement and has only 6 episodes in S1. S2 was never offered as a stand-alone set and the S1/S2 set is a canuk release (along with the rest of the series). So, if you're using that set as a starting point you may want to reconsider.

For that price, I'd say yes.

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I don't know why anyone would want to shell out the money for the Hulk set. Well, $8 maybe but if it never showed up at Big Lots why would anyone want this "best of" set when the seasons are available? It's not like they reduced the price of this set if it was on Amazon for $60+.

^ It's easy to say that now, but keep in mind that the Ultimate Collection was released a couple of years before the season sets started appearing. And if you're not a diehard fan of the show, this collection is not bad as far as containing some of the best episodes of the series. Definitely a great value for $8.

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Tacoma, Wa Pearl Street got a new display. Mostly restock (no Warner). Only new titles that caught my eye at all were Jimmy Carter Man Of Plains & 2 Three Stooges comps I hadn't seen before. Really weak batch. Bridgeport told me on the phone they'd gotten nothing, but their info isn't always reliable.

Well, I can't "keep" it in mind since I didn't know that's how it happened. But that does answer my question. It makes perfect sense if it was the first dvd set released of the series. I suppose they were testing the waters before releasing the season sets?

In any case, my curiosity is based on the $60 price not the $8 price. For $8 it's a steal, I just didn't understand the need for a "best of" when the season sets were available. I incorrectly assumed this set came out around(of after) the same time as the season sets.

Not bashing the Hulk in any way.

I agree with what you're saying. It's been strange to see the season sets on sale or available for a decent price for some time. That Ultimate Collection has carried around that $50-60 price tag from the beginning and I don't know how to explain that.

Same thing happened to us today, my mom wanted the Martin & Lewis set that came in a tin. It did not have a sticker at all. The clerk said it had come in the shipment with the other $8 box sets, so she scanned the sticker off the Charles In Charge set as a substitute. My mom was happy to pay $8 for it because she had not seen it in any other BL, but we were just curious if anyone had spotted it with an actual price sticker and could say what the "real" price is. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, If I remember correctly the set came out in late 2003 around the same time as the Ang Lee Hulk film (on DVD). They didn't start releasing the full season sets until 2006. So yeah, they were probably just testing the market.
Funny though that it's 8 bucks at Big Lots and 63 at Amazon.

This makes a great deal of sense. It also explains the nature of the Ultimate set. I haven't pulled mine out in a while, but I recall it seems to have the appearance of something that was hastily put together--there's no extras, the episodes included aren't in any particular order and there's something off with the way the discs are labled/not labled.

The tins were either $4 or $5. I'm pretty sure they were $4. Of course, BL could be raising prices. They had a 2D Zorro set from St. Clair that was originally $2, now marked at $3.

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

^That is correct. That particular one (Martin & Lewis) was $4 here. With no sticker on the set you're pretty much at the mercy of whoever checks you out. In those cases I'll try to find a duplicate or similar release/set to use as argument.

Re: Big Lots Part 7 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Got back a few minutes ago.

(San Bernardino, CA store)

There was a shipment of new stuff, but not that much and mixed in with existing lot.

Took home:

Footballers Wive$: The Complete First Season (blind buy, three bucks)
Go West/The Big Store: Comedy Double Feature

Only saw one copy of FW, which bought. And two copies of GW/TBS, I was lucky to find a copy
that only had a tiny slash. The disc and wraparound is now in a new case.

Talking to the manager I learned that there is suppose to be another big shipment for a sale coming on the 13th.

I'm hoping to find that two disc set for "Wyatt Earp" and that other Marx Bros. double feature.

Thanks. Yeah, there just weren't any dupes and the only other tin was a DragonBall one that was about 1/3 the size of the Martin & Lewis one, so the clerk immediately disregarded that as a comparison.

Picked up:
McMillan & Wife
Simon & Simon
Baccano Vol. 4

Thanks to all the posters for all the great info!
