It's a good deal and I would definitely pick some up this up if B&N didn't have their sale...but buying at B&N stores is still better for me as I can get these for $12.99 since I am a member.

I'm thinking of getting a few Pressburger films: Black Narcissus, Tales of Hoffmann, and The Red Shoes.

This is cheaper than the BN sale for me since I'm not a member and sales tax is sky-high in CA.

Would have been nice if Kurosawa's Stray Dogs and High & Low were part of this sale...or any of his Blu-Rays...

Hey there. Before you buy "The Red Shoes" I just thought you might like to know that they just did a new restoration of the film. I saw a screening of it last week, and it looks amazing. I'm assuming that they will re-release it in the US sometime soon, so you may want to hold off. See below:

It's very fitting that after rehabilitating the reputation of the Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger canon in the United States, filmmaker Martin Scorsese should also spearhead the restoration of what is arguably their greatest film, The Red Shoes. A ravishing new print provided by Cinetech of the 1948 ballet melodrama premiered at Cannes 2009 earlier this month, and will soon be screened in Los Angeles, with a UK Blu-ray release from ITV scheduled for late June.

The UCLA Film and Television Archive did the restoration (under the supervision of preservation officer Robert Gitt), which included 4K digital work by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging in association with Prasad Corp. Ltd. (India) and MTI Film. Scorsese and his Oscar-winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker, A.C.E. (Powell's widow), served as restoration consultants. Funding was provided by the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., Scorsese's Film Foundation and the Louis B. Mayer Foundation.

This is great news for me I guess. I just got home from my last B&N run and almost picked up five or six movies that happen to be on this sale. I guess I made a good choice in just buying Two Lane Blacktop and Friends of Eddie Coyle.

B&N in store all of these were still cheaper at $13.90, & that's including tax.

For non-members as well?

I don't think you could get them that low if you weren't a member. I'm not and I was averaging around $16 and change per title using some of the non-member discounts and coupons. I went as low as $12 plus tax on the single disc titles and around $17 on the doubles. I'm sure my average has gone up since I bought Six Moral Tales for $40 plus tax over the weekend but could not pass it up for that price.

For non-B&N members, this amazon sale is very competitive with B&N's prices (after applying some of the non-member discounts that are out there). Not necessarily cheaper, but very competitive.

No, but it doesn't cost anything to be a member. You can just cancel once the sale is over.

But no matter how you look at it, that's a pretty sleazy thing to do.

Also, you were using coupons that had a 1-use per account restriction in the fine print, where it was also mentioned that they can't be combined with other coupons. Just because the system isn't programmed to restrict them properly, and some (or most) cashiers were willing to let you do it doesn't mean you were following the rules. Basically, the people that were stacking coupons and reusing and reusing them were abusing the system, which is why some cashiers and managers refused to let people do it. And why you couldn't do it online.

Amazon has a straight-up sale.

Huh? So you would rather pay $4+ more per movie because it makes you feel like a better person? Why is one morally obligated to keep a discount card if they no longer wish to use it. I kept mine, b/c I buy magazines there anyway, but why on earth would you judge someone & call them "sleazy" b/c they use a card just to get an extra discount on a great sale. More power to anyone for finding DVDs are an awesome price.

I'm literally looking at the coupon as I type this and no where in the fine print does it have anything about 1 use per account. And it also states that it CAN be combined with sales and additional discounts.
