Ralph's Supermarkets DVD Blowout (some same titles as Big Lots)

went shopping for groceries tonight at my local ralph's supermarket in so. cal and stumbled upon a summer dvd blowout stand that had quite a few of the same titles as have been showing up at big lots. after being spoiled price-wise by big lots, they don't seem like the "best" deals, but they're pretty good. prices ranged from $3.99 for most single-disc titles to $7.99 for box sets. titles i saw included:

$3.99
notes on a scandal
sex and the city essentials
superman: doomsday (1-disc)

$5.99
wall-e (1-disc)
king kong (peter jackson 2-disc edition)
TMNT (not sure what season, the one that looks like a pizza box)
full house s1, 4

$7.99
veronica mars s2
tracey takes on s1, 2
superman: the new animated series vol. 2
looney tunes: golden collection vol. 2, 3

looney tunes individual volume prices can't match the $10 vol 1-5 set, but not bad if someone needs to complete a collection. superman: the new animated series 2 was a particularly nice find, since i hadn't seen anyone mention seeing it at big lots. still a great bargain and a nice way to round out the set!

I saw some similar deals at my Kroger a few days ago. They had Veronica Mars season ($7.99) and Animaniacs vol 3 ($7.99) in addition to the ones you listed. The TMNT was season 5. Prices were the same

Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to check a couple of the Krogers around here. Wouldn't mind picking up Superman: Doomsday, Animaniacs 3, and Veronica Mars (if I can't find it at Big Lots).

Re: Ralph's Supermarkets DVD Blowout (some same titles as Big Lots)

I picked up "Animaniacs, Vol.3" today at a Kroger store in Heath, Ohio for $7.99. (I never found this title at Big Lots)
There were 2 copies of "LT Golden Collection, Vol. 2" for $7.99 each this morning along with a couple copies of the "Veronica Mars" series.
I also bought "The Long Riders" for $3.99.

Re: Ralph's Supermarkets DVD Blowout (some same titles as Big Lots)

Stopped in at the Kroger on East Broad Street in Columbus and they had this display. Didn't see any of the titles I wanted but here's what I remember seeing:

Dukes of Hazzard season 3 -- 1 copy
Full House -- they had 1 copy each of three different seasons, can't remember which ones
TMNT season 4 -- 1 copy
TMNT season 5 -- 4-5 copies
Boomtown season 1 -- 1 copy
The Dead Zone season 2 or 3 -- 1 copy
The New Adventures of Superman (DC Comics Classic Collection) -- 2 or 3 copies
Superman - The Animated Series, Volume Two (The New Superman Adventures) -- 2 or copies
Buffalo Bill - The Complete First and Second Seasons -- 1 copy

They also had several recent movies, like Wanted, Hulk, Jumper, etc. Pricing ranged from $3.99 - $7.99.

Ah, after looking at their site, I see that Ralphs is Kroger. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the Kroger family of stores around here except Tom Thumb convenience stores. Any reports of these at any Kroger convenience stores by any chance?

Could someone edit the title of the thread so it says Ralph's / Kroger? A lot of people probably don't know they are part of the same company.

Saw these at Ralphs in Sherman Oaks. Some of the titles:

Full House season 1, 3
Veronica Mars season 1
TMNT season 5
Wildfire season 2

A few HD-DVDs and a variety of movies.

Also, just a heads up, but some of the movies had a sticker on the back that said "previously enjoyed".

But not until I get there?

Animaniacs 3 is now a highly wanted title thanks to Big Lots. I'll check mine, down the street - on the way to work, in the morning. I'm done with the driving around and hoping.

Re: Ralph's Supermarkets DVD Blowout (some same titles as Big Lots)

I grabbed a copy each of Animaniacs 3 and Dead Zone 5 at one of the Krogers here in TN just south of Nashville. There were a few copies of each left, along with TMNT (either 4 or 5) and Superman - The Animated Series, Volume Two.

Did anyone spot Joey Season 1 there? Been looking for that since my Deep Discount copy is still on backorder.

Gee, I wish I'd know people were looking for it. I've seen some copies at Big Lots. If I see it again, I'll pick it up and post it here.

I have several copies of "Joey." As they are rare and in demand, I must seek a premium. However, I do want to help out my fellow DVDTalkers. So...I am only asking $42,154 apiece for them. Or to trade for a Criterion Collection Goodburger DVD.

I'll have to look for these at FoodsCo since they closed all the Ralph's in NorCal.

Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I can get Animaniacs 3 now.

onto the Kroger Search.. First Big Lots, then Rite Aid, and now ..... next will it be Walgreens, CVS, or maybe even at your local McDonalds.... "would you like a dvd box set with that....?"

Thanks for the alert. My local Ralphs had a new display out and I picked up Season 1 of Veronica Mars for $7.99. It was the only copy in the display.

Checked the Waverly, OH Kroger last night since I was there already getting groceries.

I picked up Superman:TAS volume 2 for $7.99. Also, I noticed TMNT Season (4 or 5?) for $5.99 and also Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection Volume 3 for $7.99.

Where are the Kroger stores placing the DVDs? I stopped at three at lunch and couldn't find anything other than the usual movies.

Thanks.

In my local Ralphs stores, the "Blowout DVD" displays can be pretty much anywhere in the store. So there's no consistent location from store to store.

At my local store, they had a freestanding container out on the floor, near the magazines, and not far from the other standard DVD racks that have always been around for the last couple of years. There was a sign on it that said something to the effect of "blowout prices - when they're gone, they're gone"...

Re: Ralph's Supermarkets DVD Blowout (some same titles as Big Lots)

This is very hit and miss... I stopped by two Kroger stores today. One that never stocks DVDs had the same never stock. The other, the one on the way to work, had the display but it's the same display that was put out a few weeks ago. Then, it was mainly 7.99 PV...

Now, it is still some 7.99 PV but had some new stock. Some of the $3 Big Lots titles (5.99) and a few misc sets for 5.99... TMNT pizza box, Dead Zone S5, Full House something, etc. None that interested me. I did see Atonement for 5.99 though, great flick that I highly recommend.

No Veronica Mars for the peeps here or Animaniacs 3 for me.

I picked up Death of a President for 3.99. Blind buy. I'm going grocery shopping this weekend. I'll check a couple of others that I don't normally shop at but know that they stock DVDs while I am there.

As for the location... Yeah. Pretty much wherever. The one here is by the cereal boxes.

edit - now that I think about it, the sets were 5.99, not 7.99.
