Re: Big Lots Part 5

I'm taking a break from hitting any stores today. In my mind, it seems unlikely that stores would put out a bunch of new stuff. They've obviously seen how fast it sells. Surely they'd wait til tomorrow and know that we'll scarf up everything at $3/$6/$10 instead of giving folks the chance to buy it at 20% off at some point today.

Seems like there's a lot of regulars in here. This is my first time even opening the Big Lots thread since most of the ones out here tend to be a bit grimey.. and honestly I don't think most people even look at the DVDs. But, given I have some time today, I think I'll be taking a bit of a road trip and hit up all the BL in the area to see if I can score that Looney Tunes and Animaniacs.

I'll report back with findings later.

The way my Big Lots is, I'd bet they hold everything FOR today so their friends and fam can get massive discounts.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

I hit the Cary, NC store 9am this morning. They'd had the motherlode of $3 sets earlier in the week. Some new stock had been put out, but nothing too special (lots of 2nd Season Flintstones and Popeye's). I did score on the Jean Reno film "For Roseanna" - one of my all-time favorite comedies - grabbed both copies; they'll make good gifts.

I also grabbed Ray Charles Celebrates a Gospel Christmas (DVD with enhanced bonus CD) for $3 less 20%; not sure I've seen others mention finding this . Also grabbed The Grass Harp and Bridge of San Luis Rey since they were $2.40 and looked moderately interesting.

BL on Western Blvd in Raleigh, NC had moved their DVD display to the very front of the store. Nothing I hadn't seen before - some Flintstones (s2 & s3); lots of Dukes of Hazzard.

BL on Hwy 70 in Raleigh had more of the same; first time in that one; much cleaner and nicer than a typical BL.

I do have an extra Popeye and Tales from the Crypt S6 that I'd be happy to trade for a Roots 30th, Crypt S7 and/or Cabin in the sky.

Harrisburg, PA was picked pretty clean. They had copies of Joey Season 1, Tracey Takes On Season 1, Pinky and the Brain Vol 2, and The War at Home Season 1.

Camp Hill, PA was a little better - they still had:

Lois and Clark S1, S3
Tales From The Crypt S4, S5
Dastardly and Muttley and their Flying Machines complete
Wacky Races Complete
Top Cat complete
Adventures of Superman S1, S2, S5/6
Flintstones S3

They also had Challenge of the Superfriends S1 and Superfriends The Legendary Powers Show Complete, but I got the last copies.

If you got all that for $7, it may have been a steal since it sounds like the cashier didn't ring all that up correctly. ;)

I've been to 5 Western Washington BL's in the last 3 days. Only 1 had the $3.00 box sets & no one had the $10 boxes. One Big Lots employee said he's certain he saw the Looney Tunes 1-5 at Walmart for $5, but not sure if i believe it!

Yeah tell me about it, my friend said it was like $7 and change, which still seems off to me... although, who am I to complain, right? haha

Just picked up the IMAX set, Wacky Races and Jacques Cousteau River Explorations at the Big Lots in Cambridge, OH.

They had a bunch of Tales From The Crypt and a decent amount of Hanna Barbera stuff.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

Glen Burnie MD Big Lots is pretty cleaned out of
Crypt(only 1 S2 left) and
Hanna Barberra(1 Wait til father gets home, 1 Top Cat, 1 Dastardly, 2 Wacky Races, thats about it).

If going to the Glen Burnie, make sure you look back by the PC software. They dumped alot of the $6 sets there too(Pinky & Brain, etc.)

Dundalk Big Lots didnt really have much. Joey, The OC, West Wing, Lakers History set. No $3 sets there.

Any more Flintstones Sets out there in MD? I was only able to grab a S4.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

Beckley,WV Big Lots had some sets..but looked like lot of people had ransacked and gotten most of the good stuff.
They had several of the 10$ Roots sets, but I didnt see any of the Looney Toons or Kubrick sets. They did have some Looney Toons Movie 2 disc thing for $10 but that didnt look like it was worth that much. (mispriced perhaps)
I didnt see any Tales from the crypt. I seen a lot of the stuff mentioned in this thread.
Nice cashier scanned a coupon for me so I got 20% off to boot.
My haul was the following--
Wacky Races
Top Cat
Flinstones S1,3,and 5. (dunno why they had odd number seasons lol)
Popeye vol. 1
Batman animated series vol. 4
Pebbles and Bamm Bamm show
Josie and Pussycats.
Not bad for 2.40 a set.
Happy hunting to all.
I hope they restock soon.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

One great thing could come out of this 20% off day. Alot of the stores I've been to in the last few weeks seem to have this habit of jamming every single title on to those four sided wire rack displays quite often mixed with
software and games. Then piling even more on top in the center. (NOW CUE
UP THE VIOLIN MUSIC).....If this sale could just thin out one.....just one terribly displayed DVD wire rack display somewhere......anywhere.....(YMMV)...for even one fellow poster......that my forum friends would be a beautiful thing. Here's to you 20% off day and the positive change you could
make on many a shoddy DVD display.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

Big Lots in Alexandria, LA did have a few new things this week -- History of Rock 'N' Roll, Los Angeles Lakers Complete History, Super Bowl XXXI-XL, Joey S1, World's most Insane Motorcycle Crashes -- but none of the $10 sets yet. I think the bigger find here was the free hot dogs, bottled water and snack cakes they were giving away outside!

Re: Big Lots Part 5

After reading this thread this morning, I did some research and discovered that there's a Big Lots about 10 miles from me in Milford, MA. So, I decided that after work, I'd head up there and check it out.

There were no $10 sets. No Tales from the Crypt and no Hanna Barbera whatsoever. The $6 sets were pretty much the ones commonly listed here...Joey, The OC, The West Wing, etc. I wound up picking up a small pile of $3 dvds but nothing really special. It's most likely a drive I won't be making again anytime soon.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

If anyone bought the Batman Animated, Vol. 1/Superman Animated, Vol. 1 box set 2-pack, be VERY careful opening it! The individual sets themselves are not shrinkwrapped, but there's that big "Two Great Movies, One Low Price" sticker on the front of them. It is impossible to peel off the giant sticker without destroying the packages. You will have to find a knife and cut the sticker in half to release the sets. I guess I can't really complain, since it only cost $3.00, but it's still a little annoying. :-p

I can't believe how many gaps in my Hanna-Barbera collection I have been able to fill in. Keeping my fingers crossed for another Big Lots restock for more treasures.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

I almost didn't go.

Yesterday it was 104 degrees here. I woke up at 9:30, 81 degrees inside, barely slept last; can't have the AC running twenty-four hours a day. I turned on the air condition and asked if I should. My efforts in trying to find stuff had pretty much failed.

Stay home - be cool and make up for the lost sleep. Or try again, not sure if my store will have the 20% off now or until five P.M. - I'm not leaving the house then, by that time it will reach 104, again.

Off I went. I'm such an addict.

*ding ding*

FINALLY!

San Bernardino, CA: They put up a whole big section of new $3 titles. Found stuff I wanted, but no "Wonder Woman" box. I asked one of the clerks and she said just the season sets (which had all been sold out). As luck would have it our conversation was overhead by another. There's another shipment in the back. Wanna see it? YES.

You know those documentaries where divers go into the water in cages to witnesss sharks feeding... Yeah. That.

She brings in the box. There must have been seven sets. I took two. I'm not kidding. Less than sixty seconds they were all gone. A mob of folks gouged that box.

I'm keeping one and selling the other. Yes I've read the discussions on the subject. Not changing my mind; I want "Lost: Season Five - Dharma Initiative Orientation Kit", I don't know the price, but I'm gonna guess it's expensive. This extra set (WW) will finance that box. Granted I know it's not gonna cover it all. But if I can get a good chunk off that price I'm a happy fellow. That will be sold in November.

That being said, also picked up...

Pauly Shore Is Dead
The Philadelphia Story (without slash)
Logan's Run (in case)
You Stupid Man
Kitty Foyle
God The Devll And Bob

If you're looking for the latter, the San Bernardino store has lots of them.

After finding my prize I took a chance and went to the store in Colton. Very nice. Picked up...

Josie And The Pussycats
The War At Home: The Complete First Season
Lois And Clark: S1 and S3.

Okay. There are no more copies of Josie. I was lucky to find one. When I left there was one other copy L&C S3. Tons of "The War At Home". As well as The Flintstones S1 and S2. Several copies of Popeye Vol. 1 and "The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop: The Complete Series".

I have yet to run into those Tales From The Crypt sets. I had an outstanding day. Got home and took a long shower. Ate and now... posted. By the way, I was able to get 20% off everything. Great day.

Anyone try Modesto stores today? Both stores in Stockton had a bunch of $3 sets. I was up there yesterday. Not leaving the house today...too hot and don't think they would put new stock out with the 20% off coupon.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

Longtime lurker, jumping into the fray. Checked out four Big Lots in the Nashville area. Everything was severely picked over. At the Gallatin Pike store in Madison, I picked up:

The Flintstones (Season 2 & 3)
Popeye The Sailor (1933-1938) x2

At the Hermitage location, no tv sets, but I found some great classic stuff:

Critic's Choice
Pat And Mike
Woman Of The Year
David Copperfield
Hallelujah
King Kong (1933)
They Were Expendable
Haunted Gold

And the not so classic--Michael Jordan To The Max. All with 20% off coupon.

Last week, I found:

Wonder Woman (Season 3)
Animaniacs (Vol. 1&2)
Pinky And The Brain (Vol. 1&2)
Roots (30th Anniversary)
Challenge of The Superfriends To Justice League
Flying Down To Rio
The Gay Divorcee
Roberta
Follow The Fleet
Casablanca
The Last Voyage
Madame Curie
Ziegfeld Follies

Still want the Looney Tunes & Wonder Woman Complete Season Sets. Needless to say, I'll probably skip the DeepDiscount sale this time.

I have to admit that out of all the DVD's I've bought it these collections, I never thought Popeye Volume 1 would be the one that I've found the coolest. The early Popeyes were awesome, I feel like I found a jewel in the rough... now I want other two popeye volumes!
