word is Target will bring back b&m price matching nationally starting Sunday the 12th (were doing trials in some stores)
7 day PM window (only) though against competitor ad prices on same items
not necessarily a bargain but another way to help finding the lowest price

pretty sure they do now but only up to a certain dollar amount via GC if you paid by cash (meaning they can't look up your CC transaction) and at the items lowest selling price during a certain time period ... with a drivers license (and assuming they don't have you on record for repeat returns)
so like I said, yes ... with many restrictions

Target's new return policy
By JOHN EWOLDT, Star Tribune
Last update: May 5, 2009 - 5:31 AM
Effective May 15, Target's return policy improves slightly. Customers still have 90 days from the date of purchase for returns or exchanges with a receipt. That's not changing. What Target is "relaxing" is the policy for returns without a receipt.
Previously, customers could make two returns per year for store credit as long as each item was under $35. Items costing more than $35 were not returnable without a receipt. (Target customers can also request a receipt "look-up" in customer service. If the item was paid for with a credit or debit card, check or gift card and the buyer can provide the checking account number, credit, debit or gift card, it qualifies as a return with a receipt.)
The new return policy without a receipt changes the maximum value from $35 per item to $70. Customers are no longer limited to two transactions without a receipt per 12-month period. The customer can return any number of items without a receipt, up to $70 in total value. For example, a shopper could reach the limit by returning one item without a receipt for $70. Another could return 10 items for $7 each to max out.
Once Target customers reach the $70 limit, they may still exchange new and unused clothing with tags attached for different sizes, colors or like items. Food items may also be returned at the historical low price.
The change in policy is in response to customer surveys, said David Fransen, a Target spokesman.

That's actually a great policy. Up to $70 with no receipt is fantastic, and frankly, more than I think they should do. Still, fine by me though.

Customer: "I'd like to return this 6-week old loaf of bread."
Clerk: "Well, back in 1965 we sold that bread for 75 cents. Here you go."
Who returns food, and what does "historical low price" mean?

Re: Target PM'ing To Return 7/12
Target has had some of the best exclusives in the last year or so (Iron Man packaging, for one!), so for us to be able to buy it there and match the lowest price is great news!

That doesn't mean you won't occasionally get an ignorant register jockey that does still match it though.

Re: Target PM'ing To Return 7/12
Thank heavens. A few months back I tried to buy a cd there and PM to their own website and they wouldn't even do that. The store manager was rather rude to me, so I'll have to wait until I see her in there and PM a bunch of stuff.

Re: Target PM'ing To Return 7/12
Any info on whether they will PM plus some percentage of the difference? If not, this is a "don't care" to me, BB's PMing policy will be more advantageous. Even if they do offer a "bonus", it would have to be >10% to beat BB, and would probably only be useful in PMing stuff on sale at BB. Otherwise, you're not finding the "lowest" price, you've already found it and are merely matching it.

It's not the stores you have to blame for these stricter policies, it's the customers....

Re: Target PM'ing To Return 7/12
I emailed Target yesterday and their response in the email seemed to make me think PMing was valid at all Targets effective immediately:
Dear XXXXXXXXXX,
Thanks for your e-mail regarding price matching policy.
Advertised prices from any qualifying competitor with a store in your market/area will be matched. You must bring in local competitor’s entire current ad. Also, the advertised price must be valid at the competitor the day the price match is requested.
Thanks for writing.
Sincerely,
XXXXXX

Re: Target PM'ing To Return 7/12
thats awesome, target has lost a good number of bluray sales to me in the past because of the lack of a price matching system. even 7 days is better than nothing.
i will say this the price matching cuppled with the excellent sales on target is one of the few stores to be improving upon customer service it appears now.
