Don't usually see 20% coupons very often, and was surprised they showed up during the Criterion sale. Over the past several months B&N has been issuing once a month one or two 20% online coupons similar to these. I would make use of them while you can since I doubt there will be anymore for the sale. If you are not a member I would expect only some more 10% coupons next week. I'm not even sure anymore member 15% coupons will appear since B&N has cut back on those as well in recent months.

Made a second, and probably final, order today:
Thieves' Highway 1 $16.31
Grey Gardens 1 $15.85
The Lady Eve 1 $16.31
Repulsion 1 $17.99
The way they break down the discounts is really odd. I used 2 $5 coupons online, plus member discount.

I think I may have figured out the way to get the best possible deal in-store, on standard $40 Criterions.
Buy four, use both of the $5 coupons and both of the 20% off coupons. This brings the total to $54.80, enabling you to use the "transaction" coupon $5 off $50. Total is now $49.80 for four $40 Criterions. Also, I'll get 5% cashback for using Discover.
Now, I'm not sure, but I think if I added a 25 cent bob-bon to my order, making the total $50.05, I could have used the other $5 transaction coupon, making the total $45.05 for four $40 Criterions and a bon-bon (and 5% cashback). Talking to the clerk after the transaction, we were pretty sure it would have worked. I didn't want to push my luck and ask for a re-do.

It varies depending on the store, but most seem to do it in a single transaction for me. One store claimed they couldn't and had to do 3 separate transactions. I hit three different stores today since I had to drive about 50 miles to pick up a reserved copy of Nights of Cabiria. On the way home I stopped at 2 other stores since I was going right past them. I used the two different $5 off $20 coupons without any problems.
Could anyone recommend a good German or Italian film? I was thinking about picking up La Strada or Nights of Cabibria.

Quick question: Is it possible to print out the $5 off $20 and use it more than one time? The coupon states you can use it only once and I was wondering how you guys got past that loophole.

Thought my final order was posted ...guess not.
Returned and used my AAA membership to save an additional 10% off ....
Army of Shadows - $18
Travels with Hiroshi Shimizu - $23
6 titles for approx $7 a piece. I'm happy with that!

people are highly adaptive, so if criterions were priced this way all the time, we would wait for a sale

Up here in Oregon they closed alot of their stores, don't know when though.
I'm In Albany right outside of Salem and the closest store is in Eugene(about 40 miles or so) and one of the B&N in Portland doesn't even carry any DVD's.
I do miss California for a few things..
Also I got Bing.com to work for one online order..

ugh, sorry im being really lazy here, but there are just too many pages in this thread. Where can I find the $5 coupons and 20% coupons? I wasn't going to buy any criterions, as cash is really tight now, but that deal is insane. And the 20% coupons expire on the 27th?

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14
thanks, i see the $5 coupons have this in the fine print: current and valid B&N memberships purchased between may 18 and july 1, 2009. so if i sign up for membership now, i cant use it?

Coupon use is always YMMV. Some cashiers will just scan every coupon you give them, some will read all the fine print and try to limit you if possible. Some of the coupons say "not valid with other offers" but they still work if scanned.
My best transaction yesterday, the one detailed earlier, the cashier called the store manager over, they both read the coupons carefully, but he told her to "go for it" and let her scan everything.

Just click thru all the links laser has in the first post. Some aren't very clear before you look closely, but there are two 20% coupons good in-store. Some of the coupons have in-store and online components.
Wait. Here you go.

Both are usually accepted, ignore the renewal requirement.

If you're lucky you may be able to use either online code multiple times. I was able to use the first code twice, and the second code 3 times before they came up redeemed. Someone else said they used the first code at least 8 times. However one of them is expiring on the 27th. If you are going to use them better do it soon with the first coupon.

No big deal though, didn't stop me from buying more, can't really complain w/ getting Solaris for $13 & this awesome box set for $35, when it's at least $90 everywhere else.

^ Yeah, coupons are always YMMV. Fortunately, or unfortunately if you're my investment counselor, I've had good luck using all the coupons multiple times.
I'm knocking on wood as I say this, but I wonder why B&N can't do something as simple as locking each B&N membership to 1 use per coupon.
