A really good series so far. Hopefully AnimEigo will release the 2nd set sometime next year.

In addition to the DeepDiscount 25% off sale starting, DVDPlanet.com has started theirs as well (25OFFSALE).

has anyone seen dragon hunters the series? I know vol 1-5 are eligible for the current TRSI deal...but i've been unable to find any reviews on it...I am in LOVE with the Dragon Hunters movie that just came out on DVD and was hoping the series would be at least enjoyable.

1.) Keep in mind that BOTH offers will net you FREE economy shipping to domestic destinations (U.S.)!

2.) Get your orders in – all titles are “while supplies last” – and check back often because we have been known to add products throughout the sale period!

Hey JBM, long time no see (at least it seems that way). In any case, this was already posted here. I haven't got around to updating the first post yet.

Is Freedom on Blu-Ray worth $60 (from the DD sale) or should it be available cheaper at some foreseeable point in the future? It is hard to justify $60 for a 322 minute OVA when 26 episode TV series can regularly be picked up for under $30 (on sale).

I would go with the BD route. It's a good price for it especially for a Honneamise brand/BEI title. You won't find many prices that will be cheaper than that now. If you want to go with the cheaper route, you would have to pick up the 2 DVD releases (one of which is not released yet). BEI had decided to split this into 2 DVD releases (instead of one).

OR you could wait until Volume 6 completely goes out of print, and pay more than $20 dollars for it.

There's a good reason why it's more than $20.00 [and even though it's $20.00, people are buying it.]

I bought the entire series at the $10 per volume [volume 1 3 4 5], $12 for artbox [volume 2], and approximate $25.00 plus price point [Volume 6], and am extremely glad. I was absolutely stoked.

NHK DVD Volume 6 is a FUNimation/ADV films "combination" product. Red Garden, Pumpkin Scissors are the two other ADV titles rescued by FUNimation. Neither three were suppose to be released as singles [volume 6]. Those who already purchased volumes 1-5 for any of these three series were rightfully upset when ADV films announced they will not be able to release the final volumes due to financial troubles. FUNimation rescued all three series and subsequently re-released the entire series in Part 1 & Part 2 formats in thin-paks.

Volume 6 [Welcome NHK, Red Garden, Pumpkin Scissors] were no where in sight. There were no plans for their releases, at all. Internet commotions, direct emails to FUNimation, and many other factors paved the way for volume 6 releases.

All three were suppose to be a limited release, which likely will not be getting bargain treatment anytime soon or in the future for that reason alone.

I personally love a bargain myself (and I certainly don't blame you for bargain hunting either). But one does have to put things into perspective sometimes. Not buying at retail cost, and continual persistence on buying only bargain priced items that's clearly not a mainstream-big-time-selling genre certainly doesn't help the industry. What good is it to a company when something retails for $30.00 dollars, and the only way units will be moved is when it's priced at $5.00 dollars.

Bottom line: If you're a traditionalist and prefer the individual singles plus collector's artbox, be extremely grateful that it's even available. I know I am. Even at $20.00 dollars, it definitely is a bargain.

P.S. I had extremely high hopes for Welcome to the NHK, yes although it was good, I found Red Garden to be several folds better [and is actually in my top 5 anime]. Red Garden's character design were absolutely brilliant.

Is that why my DVD order is now backordered with a schedule "release" year (hopefully) of 2012. I'm bypassing the HD route for animation.

Nothing is for certain for one single complete collection. It was planned for one DVD collection, but somewhere in between it was changed. It was split into 2 releases. It remains to be seen if/when they will release a single complete collection.

Amazon now has Burst Angel-Complete Collection and OVA Blu-ray up for pre-order at $44.99. Not a bad deal if you're a fan.

Does anybody have a list of the DBZ double/triple feature movie DVDs that have been released in Steelbook? I'm a huge Steelbook fan and was buying these as they came out at first but missed the last few since the one that was released at the same time as DBZ Season 8. I'd love to go back and fill in those gaps during the Deep Discount sale, and it would be a big help if someone could list the ones that were released since Season 8 for me. Thanks.

There were 7 SteelBooks available.

  • Dragon Ball Z: Bardock/Trunks
  • Dragon Ball Z: Broly Triple Feature
  • Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge/The Return of Cooler
  • Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone/World's Strongest
  • Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn/Wrath of the Dragon
  • Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13/Bojack Unbound
  • Dragon Ball Z: Tree of Might/Lord Slug

And from Otakon yesterday...it may be of interest to DBZ fans.
Flower Mound, TX – July 18, 2009 -- FUNimation Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Navarre Corporation, today announces that it has acquired the original masters for the entire Dragon Ball Z anime series, episodes and films, and will release all as the Dragon Box for the first time in the U.S. The first of seven Dragon Boxes will be available at major retailers nationwide this Fall.

The Dragon Box will be produced from the original Dragon Box masters after a frame by frame restoration and will span the entire 291 episode television series and all 13 of its movies.

This definitive DVD box release begins with Dragon Box One which includes the first 42 episodes, uncut, on 6 discs.

The Dragon Box releases will feature an aspect ratio of 4:3, the original Japanese audio (with options for an English track or English subtitles), the original episode previews, complete opening and closing credits and a collector’s booklet.

Dragon Box One will be available at major retailers nationwide on November 10, 2009 and will have an SRP of $79.98.

Re: Official - ANIME Bargains! - Thread [updated daily...or close to it] - July '09

Hello,

i am sorry to bother all of you but i have a small "problem" with my Stellvia Tin Box i received a few days ago.

After i unpacked it i noticed that DVD 4 has two "bigger, noticeable scratches" and DVD 7 three "small, but noticeable scratches".

Its not a big deal, i checked them with NeroCD/DVD and they were readable. But i am still afraid...

So is it worth to ask for a "replacement" for these two DVDs or should i ignore the scratches?

I dont want to bother TRSi again because they have send me replacements for a few dvd box sets and shipping to germany isnt very cheap.

Thanks for your help!

Exactly the reason why I am so excited. Having better restorations is an added bonus.

I didn't realize the Dragon Box news would draw this much this attention in this thread. I will just add one more thing here (without derailing the thread any further). Pics: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4

Feel to continue further discussion in this thread.
