MARCH 1 to MARCH 21, 2009<HR>Anime Closeout Sale @ Best Buy (B&M / YMMV) | ICv2 & ANN
The selection will be cut at approximately 800 stores out of Best Buy's just over 1,000 (1,006 as of February 19) stores in the USA. Of these, 461 stores will carry only the top-20 titles.
The 461 stores that will be cutting their selection to A-List-only titles will be holding a clearance sale with their usual prices reduced a further 50%. The sale will run from March 1 to March 21. The entire list of stores can be found HERE.
50% off listed/stickered price on all anime DVD releases
NOTE: Select titles may not ring up at the right price. Ether check the prices as the cashier rings out your product(s) or check your receipt before you leave the store.
You can also check the prices of the products on the computer kiosk(s). The actual price will be displayed on BestBuy.com if your store has the product in-stock (1 or more) showing on their system. This will tell you if a price override will be required as long as the product is listed on BestBuy.com.
Blu-ray release are not included with the exception of Afro Samurai. A manager's override will be required, so your experience may vary.
What about mis-priced products? The pricing label shows one price and the discounted price doesn't add up.
It's up to manager's discretion whether they are willing to override another 50% or not.
What about releases that will/supposed to be released before 3/20?
If your local store is supposed to receive the product, it will be/should be discoutned @ 50% off as well.
Computer kiosk
If your local store's inventory is off, you can still order the product as the discounted price if it's listed on BestBuy.com. However you would have to pay S/H and it ships directly to you.
You can place pre-orders on very select products. Some of the releases that goes past March. The discounted prices are reflected (at the moment) in the sense that your local store is supposed to receive the product. And this discounted pricing may vary from location to location.

You can place anime orders with the 50% off discount on select anime titles. Your discounted selection may vary from store to store. Blu-ray releases are all excluded with the exception of Afro Samurai ($9.99). This ordering process can also include pre-orders. The discounted titles may include those that are no longer stocked in store or have been OOS for a long time. The order will be shipped directly to you. Otherwise you can to a pre-order pick-up on select releases.

Best Buy Customer Kiosk FAQ

Q: What is the Best Buy kiosk? A: It's a customer computer kiosk/station inside each Best Buy store.
Q: How does the kiosk work and what does it do? A: The most useful function of the kiosk is the access to BestBuy.com with store-loaded price. This gives you an option to purchase select products that your local stores may no longer carry. You can also do price checks on the kiosk by keying the product title or the product SKU without going to the checkout area. Another newer feature gives you an option to check on up-to-date on-hand counts (if the item is still listed on BestBuy.com) for product in the store you are at and the surrounding stores.
Q: Where is it located inside the store? A: It's usually located near the DVD/Video Game/Music section. There is usually at least one if not two or more kiosks in each store.
Q: Weren't some legal issues concerning with pricing with this whole kiosk business in the past? A: Yes, but it should pose no problem now. All kiosk now display this message, "This kiosk displays Best Buy's lowest price available between this store and its online national website prices excluding promotions and clearance and outlet center pricing which can differ between stores and online. Please see your sales associate if you have questions!"
Q: How does the ordering process work? A: Older kiosk system: 1) Click on the lower left weblink and it will lead you to BestBuy.com. 2) Shop as you would outside the store. 3) You don't need to have an account to shop, but it is recommended. 4) Once you are ready to checkout, be sure to enter your Reward Zone account number if you have one. 5) The order will then be deliver to your designated address. 6) Once the order is placed, certain kiosk offers you the option to print out your order. A: Newer kiosk system (new/remodeled stores): 1) Type in the search box on the screen and it will lead you to BestBuy.com 2) Follow the same steps as above
Q: What kind of payments are acceptable? A: All payments accepted from BestBuy.com outside the store will be accepted for the kiosk as well. Gift cards are also an acceptable payement.
Q: Can I order backordered products? A: You can still place an order as long as it's not sold out. Since most heavily-discounted kiosk products tend to be clearanced/discontinued, backordered orders may not always be fulfilled.
Q: I'm at the customer kiosk, but the product pricing is not the same. What's going on? A: All Best Buy (B&M) or customer kiosk pricing can be regional, so YMMV. However it a few instances the store-loaded webpage may display the incorrect pricing (from the likes of pricing accessed from BestBuy.com, outside the store). Often times, if proceed to the product webpage and/or place the item in your shopping cart, the correct discounted pricing will show up. It's one of the known glitches that hasn't been fixed since they overhauled their kiosk system.

You can also check the prices of the products on the computer kiosk(s). The actual price will be displayed on BestBuy.com if your store has the product in-stock (1 or more) showing on their system. This will tell you if a price override will be required as long as the product is listed on BestBuy.com.
Blu-ray release are not included with the exception of Afro Samurai. A manager's override will be required, so your experience may vary.
What about mis-priced products? The pricing label shows one price and the discounted price doesn't add up.
It's up to manager's discretion whether they are willing to override another 50% or not.
What about releases that will/supposed to be released before 3/20?
If your local store is supposed to receive the product, it will be/should be discoutned @ 50% off as well.
Computer kiosk
If your local store's inventory is off, you can still order the product as the discounted price if it's listed on BestBuy.com. However you would have to pay S/H and it ships directly to you.
You can place pre-orders on very select products. Some of the releases that goes past March. The discounted prices are reflected (at the moment) in the sense that your local store is supposed to receive the product. And this discounted pricing may vary from location to location.
The selection will be cut at approximately 800 stores out of Best Buy's just over 1,000 (1,006 as of February 19) stores in the USA. Of these, 461 stores will carry only the top-20 titles.
The 461 stores that will be cutting their selection to A-List-only titles will be holding a clearance sale with their usual prices reduced a further 50%. The sale will run from March 1 to March 21. The entire list of stores is as follows (LIST):

I just read the Upcoming R1 Anime Releases list and saw, that FUNiMATiON is publishing lots of re-released viridian collection boxes.
Whats the difference between the "old" viridian box set and the new viridian box set?
I read that the difference is the "Fullscreen" Feature that replaces the "Anamorphic Widescreen".

for one of those BB locations in GA it's HIRAM...not HIRAN (just incase anyone who lives there decides to use the search function and gets disappointed cuz of mispelling)
but i think ill hold off and hear some success stories before i make the 70 mile drive down to my nearest BB

Hmm, it looks like the best buy that just opened by me is doing the sale. It also says they have the Akira, Freedom, and Samurai 7 Blu-rays in stock. Definitely going to check it out later.

Just got back from Farmington Hills a bit ago, and got through with no real problems. I had a few titles that rang up full price, but a manger fix them for me.
heres what I picked up:
Kenshin Meiji Era Premium Boxset- $56.00 <-- I have been watching this boxset sitting in this location for the past 3 years. Its finally mine.

Suzuka vol 6 <---this was $9.99 on the kiosk but $21.99 when it rang up. I talked to the manger and had her price match the kiosk.

I'll try a different store each day, because I have a few titles I'm going back for. I'll post my findings- I hope I can find more rare sets.
Can you order titles, have them for a store pickup and then get the discount? I really want tog et Case Closed 2 and 3 but 2 isn't in stores any longer.
Also- is it true if you buy titles at another store you can take them over for a price reduction? I'd rather not buy a title for $50 and then not be able to get the price changed.

The Viridian release is essentially re-releasing a series at a more affordable pricing. Releases before Burst Angel w/OVA has the environmentally sound/flimsy cardboard digipak. Those release were not very desirable. After Burst Angel, the Viridian line was changed. It was changed to thinpak packaging housed inside a flimsy artbox. A little after that, the Viridian line like the other half/full season sets started to reduce disc counts. So a 6-disc release will mostly now be 4, 5 to 3,...
In terms of quality (picture, packaging,...), the Viridian line is somewhat/mostly up to par to the original boxset release. Depending on your setup, you may spot differences in picture quality. The original boxset packaging is usually preferred over the Viridian line.

easiest way is to go to Bestbuys website and take 50% off what they list as their selling price, the sale is 50% off of sticker price (luckily not msrp) and nothing has been "jacked-up" to compensate.
