Prime Suspect-Complete Collection is 11.97 before VAT is removed. I believe it is the cheapest it's ever been and, if you are region free, is an absolute steal.

You can pre-order Chaplin at Keystone from Amazon UK for $27 delivered to the US - that's less than half what the domestic release costs (and I certainly would have picked it up by now if it had been that cheap!). Maybe it's time I got that Laurel & Hardy set as well....

Trailer Park Boys 1-6 is about $35 right now. (oddly, the 1-7 series is no longer available at amazon.ca)

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
I know this is a little off topic, but which current DVD players are best for region-free playing; preferably something not too pricey. I have an old Cyberhome that's supposed to work, but it mangles up the picture of my "test" region 2 disk. Any direction would be appreciated.

I had a cheap philips player that worked great, do a search and you should be able to find a few models in the $20-30 range.
I currently use an Insignia NS-WBRDVD blu ray player. That has built in Wi-Fi, Pandora and Netflix, and can be made region free. Keep an eye out at ebay or best buy's auction site and you can get refurbs for around $50-75.

also on Amazon's customer reviews. I have a cheap Region 1 player and a pricier Oppo Region Free player that I have played lots of R0,1,2,3 all without a problem, however this set exhibited some problems for me on both: what I think is referred to as "ghosting" or "PAL Shudder" in certain scenes where the image seems to skip across the screen rather than moving smoothly and fluidly. Some people said that their copy didn't do that and it must be a problem with certain players. Personally, I still kind of doubt that this is the case, but I don't want to reopen the debate. The consensus was that even if it were a manufacturing defect, it's a VERY MINOR one and not worth missing out on the great bargain. These films will probably never look better. I'm perfectly happy with mine, even though I've only watched about 4 of them so far, and it was only $2 a film.

The Masters of Cinema Naruse Vol 1 Box set looks to be about $30/$32 shipped; I think I may go ahead and bite on this one. I've only seen a one or two of his films before, but consider myself a fan of early Japanese cinema...and the 184-page book is real icing on the cake. --Peter

Anyone know if Being Human S1-2 BD set is playable on a PS3? Their 17.93 price (in pounds) seems pretty decent... With VAT deduction and shipping, it is 18.34 which Amazon estimates as $29.91 US....

I received my Laurel & Hardy collection today; pristine condition and delivered by UPS (all my other orders from Amazon UK were always USPS, with occasionally DHL doing the actual air transport across the Atlantic). --Peter

That is odd being UPS delivered. Was it a rush delivery or odd shaped package?

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
I could not get Being Human S1 to play on my U.S. PS3. If I remember right, it was region free, but the 1080i 50hz content caused a problem.

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
Thanks, I won't order it then. If I can find it in-store, the current B&N sale with membership discount and $5 coupon will make S1-2 cost slightly more, but at least I'll be able to play everything...
