Re: Amazon's Deal of the Day (1/25): Six Feet Under Complete Series $60
I received my Six Feet Under set today from Amazon. I received a new and pristine set. See pic:
Notice how the factory sealed shrink wrap has an oval opening at the top so you can feel the grass and tombstone.
In addition, there are 2 stickers on the side of the box set.
These 2 identification methods will assure you of a factory sealed set and NOT a re-wrap like DVDTalker dsa_shea received.
I opened my set and the discs are all in pristine condition.
P.S. Notice how lush and bright green the grass is on my box set. Amazon must have taken excellent care and watered the grass on a regular basis.

Interesting...mine is fully wrapped, I do have a tombstone, I don't have the cutout, and I don't have the stickers. So I assume it's a rewrap.
Why are we all getting rewraps? What causes the rewrap? Are these rebuilds, pieced together from defective returns or something?
I'm about to open it and check the disks...I normally don't open a dvd till I watch it but with these big box sets I check to see if I have one of each disk and they're not scratched up (my Alias set was scratched all to hell, but luckily they've worked so far).

I would open yours and check out the discs for sure. You don't want to open it months from now to find scratched discs and not be able to get another one from Amazon.

If the one DVD disc plays fine, then I can use a touch of glue to keep the flap from tearing, and just flip this used on eBay. If I bought the cds separately it would have run me $15-20, and I only bought this to flip on eBay anyway. Not worth returning to amazon and waiting for possibly another set that gets damaged in-transit to me, or is another rewrap (hey, it could happen).
OTOH, also received Everybody Loves Raymond complete from $64.99 GB special approx. 3 weeks back, and WOW...that set is a beauty and in perfect condition.

Just went through mine. The disks were fine, although a couple were a wear to get out (I don't like those hard plastic nubs, especially when only two of the four finger slots are actually usable.) I think some of the scratching comes from those cardboard slide-in cases.
The grass on top isn't "worn", but it is compressed, from being tightly shrinkwrapped.
The bottom front edges of the overall case, where the cardboard joins, are torn about an inch in (the paper connecting them) but that's probably not worth going through the hassle of exchanging it. It's probably from the five cases and bonus book being shoved into a little box.

Sorry about those that got used copies...

I'm going to go and get the used set out and see if I can snap a pic or two of the heavily scratched discs. If the scratches come out in the pics then I'll have them posted. They would give some of the Blockbuster baddies a run for their money.

I got mine yesterday. I guess it was a rewrapped set because it didn't have the 2 stickers or the cutout in the plastic at the top. Although mine did come with the information sheet attached to the back so it looks new enough.
I went through each season and didn't find so much as a single scratch on any disc. Aside from a small ding on one of the corners on the box the set is in fine shape.

Mine arrived yesterday, loosely packed in a large box. A corner of the case was dented. I haven't opened the shrink wrap to check the discs yet but plan to start watching it soon. I'm disappointed by the damage to the case since it will lower the resale price when I am done with the set.

Mine arrived yesterday. It was new with the stickers and oval cut in the shrinkwrap at the top. I opened it and checked everything over and it looked great. I can't wait to watch it!
Sorry about those that are getting rewrapped sets from amazon though. If mine had come that way I would definitely contacted amazon about it for an exchange.

Mine was factory sealed, with the stickers and oval cut in the shrinkwrap. But several of the discs looked like they came from Netflix, even though none of them were lose. I don't understand this. I'm sending it back in for a new set, but was told that would be a month away because the out of stock.

On the over hand, you can get a set that might have been re-wrapped, but the set is still in tip top shape.
This is all very strange...

I'm still waiting on mine to be shipped; I went with free shipping, and Amazon tells me it won't go out until the 6th or later...

I normally outright avoid big sets like the SFU set because of all the bad luck I have with boxed sets, but for the Gold Box price I couldn't resist. I'm honestly not too optimistic that I won't have to return the set I get because one or more discs are scratched.

I got a new, non re-wrapped set. however, there were 3 or 4 slightly scratched discs in the set. I don't know if I should bother asking for a replacement, but I really don't wanna find out in a month or so that some discs wont play.
Hmm... decisions, decisions...

This is what I've had to do, as well. But now I have 30 days to ship my set back to them, and it may take that long for them to get it back in stock. I should've checked that before asking for a replacement. What a pain in the ass.

Re: Amazon's Deal of the Day (1/25): Six Feet Under Complete Series $60
^ The studio will usually help you out if worst comes to worst. But shipping the individual discs back and waiting for new ones is a much bigger pain in the ass. I had to do this last week when I bought Rescue Me Season 3 Blu Ray from an Amazon marketplace seller and disc one had a circular scratch and was unplayable. Then the replacement set I got had a huge crack in the same disc. After the seller ignored my emails I was forced to call Sony. I had a gut feeling it was a bad idea to buy a multi-disc set from a marketplace seller after getting so many fudged sets, but it was $15 cheaper. Interestingly I have never gotten a single bad music CD but MANY bad DVDs. I've gotten 2 scratched Blu-ray sets so far but overall QC seems much better with Blu's.
Maybe you can convince Amazon to extend your return period? Just tell them that from past experience the replacement set might not be any better and you might have to swap the discs. I know for a fact that Amazon will not give you more than 1 return without hassle.

For what it's worth I got my set today. It appears to be new with the oval hole on top. I looked at a few discs and they appear to be in perfect condition. The only problem was due to Amazon's crappy shipping the box has a crack in the top front corner. This will be a problem when extracting the sets.

Re: Amazon's Deal of the Day (1/25): Six Feet Under Complete Series $60
My set arrived today in mostly perfect condition. A side of the box, in the corner, was slightly bent in but it doesn't really affect opening this at all. And visually is still looks great. You can't tell at all until you lift up the cover and even then it's only a minor distraction. The CD's looked a little scruffy but should play fine I think. All the DVD's looked perfect. One of the holders for a disc in season one broke off in the center, but part of the holder was still in place and the disc stayed in the individual holder just fine despite missing the middle hub. So all in all I think I got myself an awesome, incredible deal on a great show. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole thing now. I've been waiting a long time (at least that's how it feels) to see what all happens in this show. I've only seen part of season one but I knew from there that I was hooked.

Trying to decide if I should get a replacement from Amazon or just tape up the sides & live with it. Do you know if I request a replacement if I'm required to send mine back first?

Re: Amazon's Deal of the Day (1/25): Six Feet Under Complete Series $60
Just got my set from Amazon and the condition of my overall case is like dtcarson's, but worse. The bottom side edges are torn over halfway on both sides and the top edges are torn about an inch in length. It was completely shrinkwrapped with no stickers, but it had the back insert. I haven't checked ALL the disks yet, but the ones I looked at look new. One of them has a small scratch, and the CDs look fine.
