What a bullshit scam....charging for shipping. Thanks Amazon, thanks "closeoutmovies".

HD DVD never fails to leave a sour taste in my mouth.

I did do that, though I didn't say so. What I'm asking is how post #71 has prices unrelated to what I'm seeing?

It was never possible to get any of the $3 titles for $3 w/free shipping. It's either $3 w/$3 shipping, $5 w/$3 shipping, or $6 w/free shipping. Post #71 paid shipping on all of his titles. He paid too much for 'The Jerk' which is still available for $6 w/free shipping.

For some reason I didn't see $5.99 w/ free shipping, when I placed the order. I tried it on the titles I ordered not just The Jerk. Anyway Amazon direct charges me tax so its not a huge difference. Overall its still a good deal for me.

Re: $5.99 HD DVD titles

Some of the "closeoutmovies" not fulfilled by Amazon (which means no free shipping) have dropped to around $3 a piece - which with shipping is about $6 each.

And, although not in this sale, Chronos [HD DVD] has dropped to $5.98:

http://www.amazon.com/Chronos-HD-DVD...dp/B000E5KUJ2/

Although too short, this is from Ron Fricke (who also made "Baraka") with superb content, plus is one of the best looking demo discs around.

It might not matter to one given the price difference but heads up that the Blu-ray release reportedly has superior audio/video (both releases modify the intended aspect ratio).

WTF does that mean?

There's no scam. The first part of the deal obviously ran out. They later lowered the price on a bunch of the movies to $2.97 so actually you are paying exactly the same as if they were $5.99 with free shipping. Some aren't priced that way anymore, but they were -- you just missed it.

Even paying shipping on a couple of titles, I ordered 15 discs for $91 shipped. That's just over $6 a title. If these are truly brand-new, this WAS a good a deal on the HD-DVDs as we've seen online, or at least pretty close.

Re: $5.99 HD DVD titles

Shipping kills the deal on the titles I was interested in.

Re: $5.99 HD DVD titles

Ordered Midnight Run, Van Helsing and Dune.

Was tempted to add Battlestar Galactica S1 for $12.99 but I've heard lots of reports of people getting scratched discs because of the poor packaging and some not even playing at all.

I picked this up at Fry's last Friday. The case had a little ding on it but the discs were all perfect. Haven't watched it yet except for the first episode but seems like a real nice set.

Would have placed a large order if it weren't for shipping.

Same here. Looks like they are shipping from a third party now and not amazon. It's a shame I didn't see this thread earlier.

I got bit bad by this. Even the Universal replacement was bad and they no longer can replace these sets. I would only buy it at a store you can open it in and check the discs.

My wife bought 5 more titles last night for $30. Mostly chick flicks, but some decent titles.

Re: $5.99 HD DVD titles

My two orders shipped rather quickly. Luckily, I had most of these, so it wasn't too much of a dent in my wallet. Can't believe my main movie shelf is mostly HD now.

Re: $5.99 HD DVD titles

It looks like they are all back to free shipping now at 5.99 for the most part, however a lot of titles have been removed. You do not need to go through the used link either, they are all listed from http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/re...6x%3D0%26y%3D0 which is the same link from the op.

Re: $5.99 HD DVD titles

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I was in a Bakers (Dillons to some) the other night and they had a bin of "closeout" movies. There were a ton of HD-DVD combos ranging in price from $3.99-$5.99 along with some T.V. sets for under $6.

Bakers, Dillons (and Ralphs out here in Socal) are all owned by Krogers.

There is a Krogers HD thread somewhere in DVD bargains that has a complete listing of HD discs that people have seen across the country.

Out here at Ralphs, I picked up the HD/SD combo discs of Half Baked, Dazed and Confused, Hitchhiker, American Werewolf in London, etc for $3.99 plus tax. Other HD titles are priced at $4.99, $5.99 and a few at $7.99

Re: $5.99 HD DVD titles

Btw, the movies I ordered via Amazon are being sent USPS with tracking number. However, when I placed my second order via closeoutmovies, I didn't expect them to send the movies via MEDIA MAIL. I mean really. For $17.88 in shipping charges? That's a FedEx Express package.
