Re: Circuit City Liquidation Deals (post your finds here)

My Sister and I stop by this afternoon. They had the 20% off DVDs, but as I pointed out to my sister they were not any bargain to be had. She wanted High School Musical 2-Disc priced at $29.99. That would make it normal price everywhere else. Well, I only went to see if they had any Hancock 3-disc exclusive left, my friend wants the movie and I already have the steelbook version from Best Buy. I found 3 left. I picked one up. I told my sister we'll try again later after the % are higher and we can go through the leftover Blu-rays.

Since I have a rewards certificate in the mail, anyone have any luck using these or their giftcards during the liquidation. Supposedly they're still good (well GC, don't know if those certificates count) and just wondered if anyone has any hassle using them.

Thanks for that advice.
I think that's what we should all do as far as dvds go.

My CC had 10% off DVDs and games, 20% off CDs just now. Nothing to get excited over just yet.

Re: Circuit City Liquidation Deals (post your finds here)

My CC had 20% off DVDs.

Picked up 9 to 5: Special Edition for $7.99 & Harold & Kumar go to White Castle: Extreme Unrated Remastered edition for $11.99.

Mine was not busy at all, but it did have more people in it than usual.

I did see the 2-pack of Ace Ventura movies with the bonus disc of the animated series for $14.99.

Mine had about 6 copies of the Hancock 3-disc edition left, plus a few of the Horton Hears a Who with the plush toy with it.

At the checkout I did see that they are not accepting those CC Rewards Certificates, nor accepting the CC credit card.

My guess would be to get a hefty discount off the purchase price.
Not sure what all sales being final has to do with anything, as if there was a problem, Canon or Nikon would cover it.

Went back to the local one today, and it looks a bit more barren than it did on Saturday. I'm hoping folks stay away from the HDDs for a while and that I'll see those drop down. Would be great to pick up some large-capacity drives on the cheap.

And can't you just buy a third-party warranty?

I'm pretty pissed because my town only got its Circuit City less than a year ago. The nearest Best Buy is about 45 minutes away.

I'm hoping I might be able to at least get some good clearance deals on Blu-rays.

You can get bigger discounts by buying online.

So, if something is missing or scratched/damaged the camera manufacturer will cover it? What if you decide the camera isn't for you. Who will give you your money back?

If I was dropping over $1000 for a camera, I wouldn't get it when there are no returns or refunds. But that's just me. Knock yourself out and take a chance.

Some manufacturers have great warranty service. I'd buy a Panasonic Plasma TV from anywhere, for instance, because they have decent in-house service.

Also, some credit cards provide protection in these cases. I know Amex would cover me either with a charge back or buyer's protection if the item went kaput within the initial 90 days.

If it's a good deal, and I can get it on Amex... I'm in.

Now will there be good deals at CC during this liquidation? I doubt it.

I know exactly which camera I want, and I know it's for me. I don't think I'll end up dropping the money anyway, because I have bigger things that I need to put money into right now.

But we'll see how far the discounts go. I haven't seen many good deals on Canon's online...nothing solid enough to make me pull the trigger, anyway.

Re: Circuit City Liquidation Deals (post your finds here)

Here is a link to an article talking about the pricing actually being higher during this liquidation so far. http://www.abcactionnews.com/content...dJxNg9aBQ.cspx

I wanted to point out something I have not seen mentioned yet.
They had video game accessories for 30% off at my circuit city so I am assuming this is at all of them. This actually makes for a great deal on controllers and rockband/guitar hero instruments.

Just an FYI. That is the best "deal" I have seen so far,

Just a heads-up on an email I got this morning from a camera dealer:

Due to current economic conditions, Nikon has informed us that effective February 1, 2009, they are being forced to re-structure their pricing. This means that they will be increasing their prices across the board. Some products will be increasing by almost 15%!!
That might put a damper on any liquidation discount you might hope to get (assuming you steer toward a Nikon. DH has a Nikon D40(? - not sure of the number) SLR that he bought last year for our cruise and he LOVES it).

Re: Circuit City Liquidation Deals (post your finds here)

Just got back from one of the local CC's and thought I'd let you know not much is going on here either. I was looking over the Blu-ray's but they were all $29.99 and $34.99. A bunch of titles easily found for $14.99 were priced at $22.99. If there are any left when it hits 50% there wil be some deals, but judging by the number of empty display areas throughout the store, the idiots are going apeshit over 10%

Just for grins I looked at a 46" SONY my uncle has been looking at. Even after the 10% it is still the same $1500 price available everywhere. But you can't criticize them. If people didn't buy it, they wouldn't price it there.

Well, one would have to use some common sense. I would have no problem buying a dslr at a liquidation sale, but of course, I would open the box and make sure that everything was in cosmeticaly good shape, as well as all the pieces being present. Depending on what the clearance discount is at, the total price could be much lower than anything online.

And if you buy a dslr without doing any sort of research and realize later that you dont want it, well that is on you then.

And if there was a problem with it workign down the road, or even right away, as has been mentioned before, the maunfacturer's warranty is in effect.

I stopped by mine today and saw both of these too. Do you guys think Hancock would be a good blind buy? And are the any other good DVD exclusives I should keep an eye out for? Mine still looks chock-full of stuff but everything is all over the place so it's hard to sort out which might be a good value from what appears to be hideously overpriced (pretty much everything that I looked at).
I wonder if I'd be able to use some of my AmEx giftcards...

BTW, thank you all for the deal threads, ads, and stuff. I check this subforum every day.

No, Hancock would be a lousy blind buy. Rent it first before buying.

It only managed a 39% rating on RottenTomatoes.com.

Even knowing that, I was surprised how bad it was.

Hicksville, NY...Close Encounters of the Third Kind Blu-ray.

34.99 less 20% + 8.625 percent NYS tax = $30.42

Same here in NJ yesterday. BR rack was almost half empty. Why? Example: The James Bond 007 BR's they had on sale for $16.99 a few weeks ago are now $24.99 -20% now at the liquidation sale. Am I missing something?
And yeah - by the time they do hit 50%, the place will be long wiped out.

do they honor prices on their weekly ads ? If they do can we get %20 off on top of that price ? And did anybody have any luck using man. coupon or any kind of coupon for DVDs or BRs ?

Re: Circuit City Liquidation Deals (post your finds here)

Last week they were reportedly NOT honoring prices in their ads.

When a liquidator takes over they pretty much are a different company. They do not have to honor any CC policies.

I think I have a purchase from 2 or 3 weeks ago that I want to return, curious to see if they'll let me.

And the sad thing is that most of their prices as of right now don't even beat the prices that CC was offering in the ads. So much for liquidation huh?

Re: Circuit City Liquidation Deals (post your finds here)

I might stop by my local store this afternoon, but a friend who went yesterday told me it was pretty weak selection-wise. I always want to go and find someplace to hide BD's I want to buy at a better discount date. But then I remember that's a luxury only the employees are afforded.

They're letting you return things you bought before the liquidation took place for 14 days after its purchase price, so hurry if you want to return something.
