This is the definition of great timing. I bought the Buffy set for 69.99 a few weeks ago as a deal of the day without ever seeing an episode before (best 70 bucks I've EVER spent!). I just got done with the final season yesterday and was planning on getting this sometime but figured it wouldn't be until after Christmas given the hundred dollar price tag, but there's no way I can resist it for 51 bucks.

I work graveyard on the front desk of a motel and I have a portable DVD player. It's always dead at night so I can get through a series pretty quick if I set my mind to it.

lol--I've had the Buffy set for about 3 years and still have 3 seasons to go. I always have lots of other stuff to watch in competition with it, and not enough time for anything. As to Angel, I bought this set at $55 in one of the gold box deals this year, and $50 is a sweet deal.

I just got the Buffy set during that recent sale, but haven't watched it yet -- nor have I ever seen it. I've just heard excellent things about it. Is Angel supposed to be as good?

I think i'll have to be installing my own debt clock soon, with all these great deals. My cards have really taken a pounding this quarter. Just how many more of these deals can companies have in store....I shudder to think.

Does this set have anything extra that's not with the individual sets, like the Buffy one did?

Yes, a mini booklett, and an appreciation letter from Whedon, but if you already own the sets it is not worth a double-dip, obviously.

On the other hand, if you do not own Angel, at this price it is an amazing bargain that is screaming BUY ME!

So neat that between this deal and the Buffy gold box deal from November, that I will be able to own 12 seasons of TV on DVD for $120.98. Now that is freakin' sweet (thank you Family Guy)!!

I disagree. I just finished Angel a couple of days ago (I purchased it as a previous Amazon DotD). While I enjoyed the series, it doesn't have the "rewatchability" factor for me and I will sell the set now that I am done with it. In the case of Buffy, however, I wouldn't even consider parting with my set and have been through the entire series twice (so far), with some episodes more than that.
Buy it!
Here I agree. At $50.99 for five seasons, this is a great bargain and anyone who liked Buffy will probably like Angel as well.

Thanks for the heads-up, Punit! I already own all of the individual season sets, but I'd rather have the more compact packaging of the complete collection set. And it looks like selling my individual seasons back should completely cover the cost of the new set, so I'm in. Did the exact same thing with the recent Buffy deal. Amazon has been offering some absolutely killer deals lately!

Since you asked, here's my take on the two shows, using 1 to 5 stars:

Buffy Season 1: *****
Buffy Season 2: *****
Buffy Season 3: *****
Buffy Season 4: ****
Buffy Season 5: *****
Buffy Season 6: ***
Buffy Season 7: **

Angel Season 1: **
Angel Season 2: ***
Angel Season 3: ***
Angel Season 4: *****
Angel Season 5: *****

Buffy started out strong and finished weak. Angel started out weak and finished strong. IMO there's enough good episodes throughout the Angel series to justify a $51 purchase price.

I just ordered it.

I had Angel Season 1 a couple of years ago, but traded it in since I hadn't watched it and wanted to pick up the other seasons before starting it. Now that I ordered the entire series, I have no excuse!

One more series down, many more to go!

Holy CRAP!!! I just ordered this about 3 hours ago and I just got a shipping notice. That has got to be the fastest I have ever had something ship from Amazon.

Me too...I missed it last time, glad to see it was offered again.

Believe it or not, while I've seen every episode of Buffy, I've never seen 1 episode of Angel (even the cross-over or two that they did). So I'm looking forward to getting this.

Will this thing fit on a DVD shelf? How tall is it?

It's pretty close to the height of a standard DVD case.

OK, cool thanks. While we're at it, how wide is it? I'm thinking in terms of shelf space. I'm assuming it takes up less room than the 5 seasons individually.

It's actually much shorter than a standard DVD, by a couple inches. It's closer to the height of Blu-ray. As for width, about as wide as two and a half box sets?

I purchased this a couple years ago for $65 or $70, I think. I'd just bought Buffy a few weeks prior, so by the time Angel came I was just past the point in Buffy when the spin-off began, so I watched them at the same time. I only saw the first seaon of Angel when it was on the air, so it was neat to see the later crossovers.

I like Angel just as much as Buffy, but for different reasons. Both shows have their faults, and when I rewatch them I'll probably skip over some episodes, or section of episodes. But you'll have that in most shows that run 5+ years.
