Went in today and sadly no SOny or Wb restock. They did have the first look and Ventura titles though.
Managed to get
King of California (w/ slipcover)
The Amateurs (w/ slipcover)
The Contract
Everything Put together

Also saw (and not sure if mentioned yet)

The Proposition (Fantastic DVD with amazing special features and some of the best picture quality I have ever seen on a dvd.)
10 items of less (very enjoyable film with great features)
Dave Chappelle: Killin them Softly
The Dead Girl

Please oh please put the new restock of WB and Sony titles out. I am jonesin' so bad for some of those titles.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I rechecked one store and they finally had 8 trays of dvds laid out neatly on a shelf. I saw these for the first time:

Day for Night
The Quiet
To Sir, With Love
Dance, Girl, Dance
Greedy
Living in Oblivion
The Gay Divorcee
The Boxer (with DTS digital surround)
The Barkleys of Broadway
Beyond the Poseidon Adventure

The 8 trays looked barely touched, each looked fully stocked. It is interesting that this particular assortment did not have East of Eden 2 disc, The Dark Backward, Tess, The City of Lost Children and Dogma SE + digital copy.

I guess as they run out of a particular title at the warehouse, they just add in different titles to fill up the tray. So each Biglots store might get a slightly different assortment.

It is ironic, because it's the titles that they run out of that folks really want and can't find at their local store.

Modesto, CA (eastside store)

Found only a few, so either they got a small shipment, there is much still in the back room or what I saw is only the leftovers after everyone else picked through it.

Picked up:
Barry Lyndon (1975)
Flying Down to Rio (1933)
There Was a Crooked Man (1970)
World According to Garp (1982)

Also spotted:
Any Which Way You Can (1980)
The Champ (1931)
Dillinger (1945)
Gen-X Cops (1999)
The Red Badge of Courage (1951)
Stranger Than Fiction (2006)
Tarzan and the Lost City (1998)
Viva Knievel! (1977)

and that was it for the new titles

Hit two BL's this week hoping to score a "To Sir With Love" or a "Brainstorm". One had nothing. The other had loads but no "To Sir With Love" or "Brainstorm" (well at least I have the "TSWL" OST CD :)).

Ended up grabbing the following (all slashed UPC's):
Cabaret (Minnelli)
Ziegfeld Girl (Stewart/Garland)
Kings Row (R. Reagan)
Method (Hurley/Sisto/Barrowman)
December Boys (D. Radcliffe)

Off the top of my head, also saw...
Oh God
Oh God You Devil
Going In Style
The Sunshine Boys
Everybody's All American
Mutiny On The Bounty
The Name Of The Rose
East Of Eden (2D)
Eros
The Curse Of Frankenstein
Guess Who's Coming To Dinner
Greedy
Ten Little Indians
Joe's Apartment
Ryan's Daughter
Lillith
Rollover
The Roman Spring Of Mrs. Stone
Critics Choice

So...any "To Sir With Love"'s or "Brainstorm"'s for trade?...

That is correct. It looks like the typical Joe Average WS TV where a 4x3 image is stretched to fill the screen. Everyone is squat.

I find the presentation distracting and have been unable to find a good alternative to getting a normal looking image... *BUT* It's one of my favorite dark comedies and because of this (plus the fact it's OOP) I picked up a copy anyway a year or so ago.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I hit up 3 more Big Lots today. No sign of Living in Oblivion. I did find a bunch of copies of Day For Night at another (the National City store for my fellow San Diegans). Their DVD display looked nearly untouched. Also managed to find one lone WS/FS version of Sweet and Lowdown amidst all the fullscreens.

Also picked up My Favorite Wife, XXX (w/ Vin Diesel) and Police Academy: 20th Anniv. Edition.

Don't know if these have been mentioned but I've seen Dogtown & Z-Boys: Deluxe Edition and Monty Python's And Now For Something Completely Different.

Finally made the trek to the closest Big Lots [35 miles away] today in anticipation of all these new titles everyone's finding[most notably City of the Lost Children].

And....no luck at all. Nothing new since the last time I went about a month ago.

Oh well, maybe next week.

Stopped at a few stores in the Philadelphia area and found most of the new titles, along with another title that hasn't been mentioned in this thread: Demon Seed.

Didn't find: Hardcore, It's Alive, Prince of the City, A Man For All Seasons, Living in Oblivion, Eating Raoul, Tess, or Brainstorm. The Beverly, NJ store has nothing new as of yet.

Eating Raoul is a cult classic for me. I don't mind the unusual aspect ratio presentation. It just adds to the overall campiness of the movie. It's a gem for only $3.

Wonder if any copies of To Sir With Love are the famous mis-labeled ones that actually have a Godzilla movie on them? I'd like to find one of those just for fun.

It looks like the mistake was made when Sony/Columbia Pictures were making the old WS/FS flippers, according to this little blurb I found on the internet:

"Perhaps the oddest bit of trivia concerns the movie's release on double-sided DVD. One side had the movie in fullscreen, the other, in widescreen."

"However, many copies inexplicably featured only the fullscreen of the film; the widescreen side featured Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla. The company has offered no explanation, except to say that this is an error. "

Also,

"A Korean-made horror movie from 2006 received the English title, To Sir, With Love. Doubtless, this has caused some confusion."

As long as the packaging does NOT say WS on one side and FS on the other side we should be ok? Or did Sony toss in the leftover WS/FS flippers into the new packaging after they stopped making flippers for alot of movies and reprinted the packaging?.....

Thanks for the heads up. I found 15 DVDs for less than $50, even if they didn't have a few that I wanted. Here's hoping I see a tax refund.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I stopped by today. They still haven't gotten anything I wanted (Butcher Boy, It's Alive...) but they had a tiny new display of Fox DVDs. Mostly family/kids stuff though, nothing spectacular or memorable (lots of Strawberry Shortcake and similar stuff aimed at very young girls mostly). I did get The Sandlot but it was something called a Follow Along DVD with Kid's Captioning to help kids learn to read. Captioning is optional though, so I picked it up.

Couple more I got:
Kids In The Hall: Tour of Duty
Everything Put Together

I'm going back Saturday or Sunday, so hopefully they'll have more WB stuff.

Edit: Crap, after reading up on it, the Follow Along DVDs are Fullscreen. Somehow I failed to notice that on the cover.

Ugh, the Dogma "SE" comes without the SE's second disc. The only disc in it is labeled "disc 1". I guess that's what you get, but I figured since it had the 2-disc SE's cover art and was labeled "Dogma SE" on the security sticker that is what it would be. I guess when they repackaged it with this digital copy they dropped the second disc for some reason. I wouldn't have bought it if I knew that.

Yeah I noticed Best Buy selling this version awhile ago....
If you check the back if says nothing about additional bonus features....
I agree it's really weird they used the SE artwork for it....

Today I picked up "My life without me". The movies kind of similar to the Michael Keaton movie "My life". Both good flicks.
