How is this collection regarded? I'm tempted to pull the trigger.

It's a fantastic set! This is a great price for it. Out of the 14 movies in it, only one or two are stinkers.

Very, VERY tempting, but I might hold out for the films' release on Blu-ray.

Damn that's a nice deal. I bought these movies years ago when they were originally broken down into 7-film boxsets and felt like I was getting a deal for spending $90 each on them.

Figured those new releases probably had something to do with this DOTD. It is tempting. In the back of my mind, I'm probably hoping this deal sells out so the choice is made for me.

Applied for the Bill Me Later and got it. $10 off this item. Paid $40.99!!!!

I'm all about Special Editions with extra features, but this was too good to pass up. $41 for 14 movies, and the 15th disc has extra features supposedly, PLUS it was $89 at Deep Discount.

I feel like I got a steal.

Thanks for the tip.

DAMN! Too late, folks above just pointed this out!

Combined with with the Bill Me Later code, BMLDEALS, to get it for 40.99 shipped.

To get the Bill Me Later code to work, you need to already have selected Bill Me Later as the payment method. When checking out, select "Pay by Bill Me Later" as the payment method and then proceed to the final confirmation screen. On that screen on the right side there is a place to enter "Gift Certificates, Promo Code, and Coupons". Enter it here, and it will show a credit for $10 on this order.

I actually took an autuer studies class on Hitchcock this past spring and was required to purchase this box set as well at the "legacy collection" and I have to say that I was really impressed with this set. Despite all the biggies like "Psycho," "Rear Window," and "The Birds" it includes some of his lesser known and appreciated work. I'd would be getting this if I didn't already own it, haha.

This Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection is the Universal set with 14 movies.

The Warner 9-movie The Hitchcock Signature Collection contains Strangers on a Train Two-Disc Edition, North by Northwest, Dial M for Murder, Foreign Correspondent, Suspicion, The Wrong Man, Stage Fright, I Confess, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Lionsgate put out the barebones The Alfred Hitchcock Box Set, it includes some of the director's earliest films, including The Ring, The Manxman, Murder!, The Skin Game, and Rich and Strange.

MGM is about to release the 8-movie Hitchcock Premier Collection with some of the titles that used to Criterion releases, including Lifeboat, Spellbound, Notorious, The Paradine Case, Sabotage, Young and Innocent, Rebecca, and The Lodger.

Add in To Catch a Thief (Paramount), 39 Steps (Criterion), and Lady Vanishes (Criterion).

Given recent sales, you can pick all these up for about $200. Wow!

I was happy to pick this set up about a year ago for $57, so this is indeed a great price. Of the fourteen films it contains, I enjoyed the majority of them. Its entirely subjective, of course, but here is how I would rate the films in this set:

"A": Vertigo, Psycho, Rear Window
"B": Torn Curtain, Frenzy, Family Plot, The Birds
"C": Rope, Topaz, Shadow of a Doubt
"D": Trouble with Harry, Saboteur, Man Who Knew Too Much
"F": Marnie

While I was very tempted, I agree. I already have "Lifeboat" and "North by Northwest" and of the one's in this set I'm most interested in are "Rear Window" and "Pyscho." So the options are for $50 get 14 movies that contain the two I mostly want in lesser quality or pay $30 to get both in new transfers. I think I would go for the new transfers.

I believe I spent $80 when this first came out and I've never thought twice about it.

It should be noted that the newer 2-disc versions of Vertigo, Psycho, and Rear Window use the same transfers as the discs in this version from all I have read.

Isn't the old set anamorphic as well? I quickly read the review on DVDTalk trying to decide if I should get this or not. It says the movies are enhanced widescreen, which is the same thing, I thought.

The new Legacy Collection edition is the first time Vertigo has been available individually with an anamorphic transfer, however the Vertigo disc in the Masterpiece box set is also anamorphic.

This is a fantastic set and well worth the money. I was pretty lucky and picked it up last Christmas from DD for $46.39, but the regular price has gone up quite a bit since then for whatever reason.

It was required that you purchase the box sets, like you would a textbook? That sounds ridiculous.

Given how expensive and fairly useless (after the class is over) the average textbook can be, I'd say this was a much better investment!
