Nightmare on Elm Street Collection - $22.99 @ Amazon.com

http://www.amazon.com/Nightmare-Elm-.../dp/0780626966

I remember seeing this posted on the boards as being this cheap at Costco or Sams Club or wherever it was. Here it is on Amazon for the same price so if you don't have one of those stores near you, or your store didn't have it, you'll have the option. I used my free Amazon Prime trial and paid $3.99 for one day shipping. It says it should be here tomorrow, so it better be!

Excellent price. I got mine for $25 on the Exchange. I'm kinda scared though that maybe this low price hints a new reissue special edition set to come out eventually. Especially with the remake and all.

kintnerboy 09-18-08 08:08 AM

No new special editions. WB is re-releasing all 8 films on 2 quadruple feature discs, so you should be able to pick up the entire collection for about $20.

ManClub 09-18-08 09:24 AM

I picked one up today. Could not pass it up for $23.

The quadruple discs retail at $20 each, so even on sale it's a bit cheaper to buy the whole box. Unless space is an issue...

Nice screen name.

The two quadruple discs are about $28 at Amazon, and I like the fact that it includes Freddy vs. Jason! Plus space is indeed an issue at my house.

Going from the boxset to the quad's, don't you lose features?

Spiderbite 09-18-08 11:49 AM

Damn that's a great price. I shudder to think what I paid for this boxset way back when it originally came out.

Question on the set..

A co-worker of mine's cousin recently got the set at Best Buy within the last year and she said the set didn't come with any 3D glasses. What's the deal? Do the later boxes not come with all the doodads the original release did?

dullboy 09-18-08 12:56 PM

FYI, Canada has the first Nightmare on Elm Street on Blu-Ray already. Apparently, it's featureless, but some might want to consider this hi-def alternative.

Amazon had this same deal a couple of months ago, and mine came with everything including the 3D glasses. She should contact New Line Home Video, see if they will send her a pair.

Sam's Club also has the boxsets for $22.72 (I think, less than $23 for sure).

And mine came with 2 pairs of 3D glasses.

PopcornTreeCt 09-18-08 07:57 PM

I've wanted that set since 1999... but now that it's within price range... it's dated. I don't want it anymore. :)

My Other Self 09-18-08 08:04 PM

It's out of stock. Not back in until September 26th.

asianxcore 09-18-08 08:20 PM

I already have 1 & 3 (my favorites in the series), but I'd pay $23 for that extras disc and the cool packaging/artwork.

Hmm......

Texan26 09-18-08 08:41 PM

Are all of the movies on this set anamorphic widescreen?

Yeah, that's I'm thinking.

I'm fairly certain that the boxed set contains more extras than the standalone versions of these films; and the quad sets will very likely be ports of those.

Yes the box set includes a bonus disc with extras that in all likelihood won't be on the quadruple feature sets.

However the quadruple features include an extra film, Freddy Vs Jason.

The box set comes with an 8-disc that has an AMAZING feature-length documentary and a bunch of other features that will not be included on the quad-packs. Also apparently the trailers and commentaries (recorded for the original and "new nightmare") from the single discs have been dropped for space issues.

Additionally at $20 each you can potentially buy the box and "Freddy vs. Jason" (which has 2 discs worth of extras on its own) for cheaper.

Viper187 09-18-08 10:50 PM

At this point, I wouldn't buy a box set of those shitty snapcases at any cost. I've grown to hate them entirely too much. There's no excuse for no reissuing all those in keepcases sooner.

joltman 09-19-08 06:31 AM

Does anyone know if any of the special features from the 8th disc in the boxset appeared on the 2-disc edition of the first movie?

Great question. I'm an extra features whore, and would love a way to not buy this huge boxset, but have everything in a smaller space.

Rats! I wished I checked this forum, because RIGHT BEFORE I did yesterday, I went ahead and bought this set off DD for $39.36, a very good price I thought, until I saw this Amazon deal moments after submitting my order! Ouch, what were the odds? Oh well, $40 is still a top deal for 8 DVDs I know I'll watch more than once.

You can call DD and cancel your order.

Josh-da-man 09-21-08 05:07 AM

DD will price-match Amazon, won't they?
