In my opinion the best film in this sale is Sorrow And The Pity.
I also enjoyed Charley Bowers especially with his early stop action films depicting (using miniatures) a smart mouse versus the dumber house cat and dog. |
2x Sorrow and the Pity. Another recommendation for this wonderful doc.

Anyone have anything to say about the Edgar G. Ulmer set? I'm looking for something to match with the Blood Trilogy.

8% back from live.com would take over $16.00 off those two Twilight Zone sets, BTW.

Yeah I've yet to see Detour. I know it's on one of the public domain sets I have. Thanks for the information.

The transfers look pretty spotty, but you do get five films for $10.00. The Strange Woman is trashy fun, and Hedy Lamarr is a real knockout. Strange Illusion is solid noir, but the transfer is inferior to the Roan edition. I haven't seen the other three, but Daughter of Dr. Jekyll looks particularly wretched. There are several featurettes, plus a commentary track for Strange Woman included as well...
Although I shouldn't be too surprised at a DD mis-description. Their description for the Sexy Space Box Set shows The Defilers, Double Agent 73 and Kiss Me Quick as the features. But in the special features tab, the films now become Space Thing, Nude On the Moon and Wham! Bam! Thank You, Spaceman! (much more logical selections). Hmmm, Amazon seems to concur with DD's description, but titles it Edgar G. Ulmer: Archive. No matter, I now see some Amazon sellers offering a Roan version of Bluebeard. |

Are you talking about the King of the B's set? The DD description lists it as having only 2 films, Bluebeard & The Strange Woman. I would love to acquire Bluebeard as that was one of the non-Universal films on WGN's 1970's Creature Features showcase.
Aspect Ratio: MATTHAU, WALTER Disc Format: Walter Matthau |
^^^I was going to get this also, the photo shown on the Ulmer set is for Archive the 3 disc set. And has a running time of 432 min. and if you click on special features it says 3 disc set.

My Live.com account is linked to my hotmail account, but my DD account e-mail is a gmail address. Does this matter?

Same thing here only DD account email was a yahoo address. It went through on mine because I got an email saying the transaction will be listed as pending for 60 days before I can cash out. The surprise to me is that it was showing I would be getting cashback on all my items (even the free ones)

Totally forgot to go thru live.
I really hope the DD link to live was not active last month with the Criterion sale. If so, I lost out on a lot of money. :( |
I'm torn on the TZ sets. Been waiting for the complete set to drop, but the individual sets don't look too bad, pricewise. I remember reading a few comments that the packaging for the individual sets is better than the complete collection packaging, but of course I can't find those comments now. Any opinions?

The Twilight Zone complete sets are only $85.05 each after using Live.com Cash Back. That's only $17.01 per season. Incredible!
I've earned $52.44 cash back, just with this BOGO sale alone. |
Damn! Where's the DVD Planet mirror to this sale? I've got close to a grand in credit and I'd like to get the Dick Van Dyke show individual seasons.
The math is compelling: The complete series box would be $151.07 (from Planet) during the expected 20% sale in November. Getting seasons 2-5 during the B1G1 would total $53.98. Adding another $26.99 for season 1 would get me the whole thing for $80.97. (Or even wait until November to pick up S-1 on sale and make the total outlay $75.57. It's not like I have nothing to watch in the interim.) I hate spending cash when I've got all that credit built up. C'mon Planet! |
I have a question for customers of DeepDiscount.com, especially those outside the USA.
If you purchase from DD's Buy 1 Get 1 Free sales, does DD mark the full or the discounted amount on the packaging? I'm looking at the individual Twilight Zone sets, but I'm afraid DD will mark the price before the discount which after shipping would be closer to 108 dollars. |

I wonder why only some "Something Weird" titles...
Bad Kids Box Set Cosmic Superheroes Box Set Herschell Gordon Lewis Collection (Non-Blood trilogy) Beauties & Beasts Box Set Freak Show Box Set Box of Blood Decided to go for the South Set (Even though I already got Country Cuzzins/Midnight Plowboy, the 3 free additonal ones should make up for it) and Storybook Collection #2. |

Im confused at the math for this. If its only 8% back, Im not seeing how you are able to get back that much money from buying the sets. Each set is $47.25, 8% of that is only $3.78. X 6 (if your grabbing six TZ sets, maybe a new one) and its still only $22.68 you get back. Or is my math wrong?........
Here's the math: 202.50 (2 Twilight Zone - The Complete Definitive Collection sets) -16.20 (Live.com Cash Back for paid one) 186.30 -16.20 (Live.com Cash Back for free one) 170.10 / 2 sets = $85.05 / 5 seasons = $17.01 per season ;) |
I've also been using Live.com.
We'll just have to wait to see if that gets adjusted in the next 60 days. And SkullOrchard didn't say what he had actually purchased to make that $52.44 total. (edited my post after bigjim25's easier-to-read one) |
