Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly

I picked these up at the Dallas Preston/Royal Store (now closed).

50% off in-store. This is supposed to be for the Allen, TX store which is one of the ones remaining open.

The other is 30% off online

Both are good through May 7.

Sorry, the 50% off one is a scam. Confirmed at my local Borders yesterday. They had previously been notified ... Apparently, someone who was let go from Borders whipped it up and sent it out as revenge/a prank. Either way, stores have been told, and they aren't accepting it. The barcode also won't scan.

It looks fake. I wonder why they didn't just copy one of the previous 50% off coupons.

I don't know where the coupon posted above comes from, but it looks like a word for word, code for code replica of a real, official 50% coupon that is being given out at the register at all liquidating locations in Manhattan. These coupons are official and printed on official glossy Borders fliers, and the UPC matches the one printed above. These coupons are real. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner.

The coupons I posted are from a printout I picked up at the Preston/Royal store in Dallas. Like the ones illenium mentions above, these were professionally printed, and directed customers to the store in Allen, TX one of the stores staying open if this is an "employee trick", someone went to an awful lot of trouble and expense.

Used that 40% off code to get Samurai Champloo for a little over $26 with free shipping. I had it preordered under the 33% code for three bucks more.

I talked to a manager tonight about the 50% off coupons. The ones you can pick up in store (probably just at closing locations) are real and official. Those are being accepted. It's just the scans that are not being accepted. So if you can get your hands on the real coupons, you should be fine.

I got a email with a letter written by the Borders CEO talking about the bankruptcy. The email has a link for "free priority shipping on any item you can't find in store" through 6/12/11. I can't seem to make it work, though.

I'm guessing you need to go into the store, see they don't have it and then have the store order it for you with the free shipping.

Since Borders went from about 4 stores in my area to 1 that's almost 10 miles away in the opposite direction of where I usually go, chances of me going to a Borders store dropped from maybe a few times a year to maybe once if I happen to be at the mall where it is for something else and if I have time, and it's my least favorite mall so I rarely go there.

Anything I'd want to buy from Borders I could probably get cheaper through Amazon. Besides even when my nearby Borders was in business, their DVD/BD section was almost nothing, and I'm not much of a book or CD buyer.

From the fine print:

Free shipping applies to priority shipping and handling expenses on Borders Search and Borders.com purchases shipped to a single address in the continental United States only.

FYI this works on preorders (assuming they'll still be around)--was able to use it to get a great deal on the Stargate Atlantis Complete Series BD and saw others were using for LOTR Extended box set.

Whoa! Thanks for mentioning that one. It's also nice that their MSRP is listed lower (should be 199.99, but they have 156.99). $82.88 after tax, and then I'll get 4% CB as well. Nice!!!

Now to hope they don't go under before the end of July...

50% off coupon is great, but once I order the Criterion and pay tax and shipping, I'm back up to $24 and it's not that much of a deal again.

I ordered The Larry Sanders Show: The Complete Series. It's listed at $131 so after the coupon and my Rewards Plus discount it came to 58.94 plus tax. I'll also get 6% back from eb@tes and $5 in Rewards Bucks for spending over $50.

Is the free shipping coupon for multiple uses? If not, I want to choose my order carefully...
