Do you mean the Criterions won't last that long (in stock) or Borders won't last that long? If it's just the DVDs, what will they do with that space, go back to being a book seller?

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly
This talk of Borders doing badly and possibly closing is very surprising to me. When deciding where to buy a book I usually choose Borders because of all the coupons and discounts. I also go there for DVD's because every Borders carries them and have frequent sales while Barnes and Noble only carries them in certain stores at full retail prices.
Borders Rewards membership is free and has tons of coupons/sales, Barnes and Noble is stingy on the sales and charges $25 dollars for their membership... so I just figured Borders would get more foot traffic. I'm by no means anti-Barnes and Noble. I love browsing there, but once I pick a book, I print out a coupon and go to Borders. |

Here's a good message board(a Borders employees board) for some insider info regarding all things Borders- http://community.livejournal.com/iworkatborders |

If you are a member, you can use the coupons for a good discount at bn.com where prices are typically discounted. Borders may be better in store.

IMHO: If Borders removed their dead DVD stock to stay alive in these hard times. I'm all for it. Read through this thread (and similar threads) and you'll see that a lot people have a hard time finding a DVD deal at Borders. Even with coupons, better deals can usually be found elsewhere without too much trouble. Where the Rewards program really shines is with paperbacks. Amazon rarely discounts paperbacks (I'm not talking trade paperbacks). Paying for a 10% discount at B&N never made sense to me. I'd gladly do without DVDs at Borders in order to keep it alive as a great place to buy books (even if they are slow to get new releases).

Looks like some stores may be clearing out DVDs:
New Thread This may explain why some posters have seen a consolidation taking place at their local stores. I know my store has cleared aout about half the space previously taken up by DVD and CD. Should be interesting to see what happens..... |

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly
I work pt at Borders and I can confirm that we were given a long list (at least 2/3rds) of the CD & DVD stock that needed to be discounted this week. Their objective is to get to the point in the next few months were the store will only carry new releases and other trending multi-media items, but the back stock is going. I have no idea if this is nation wide, or do to market size, the store I work at is in a very small market.
And yes, they are doing this as part of their frantic attempt to stay in business. Nation wide there have been huge executive layoffs, store wise position eliminations, and drastic payroll hour reductions (at the store I work in it was close to half the payroll hours). And the outlook is still very dim, Borders is right where Circuit City was 3 or 4 months ago. |
Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly
There are no online coupons currently, correct?

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly
The problem is they don't seem to even stock the new releases. I have a bunch of Gift Cards from Discover Card that I wanted to use with the 40% off box set--but the new releases I looked for were all listed as online only. I wish they would make these coupons work online as well--or let you use the coupon in the store and order in-store (like B&N does). If I wasn't getting these Gift Cards for 25% off from Discover, I probably wouldn't even shop at Borders--I don't understand why anyone buys DVDs and CDs there--their prices are MSRP or higher. (Some of the $39.99 MSRP items I looked at are listed as $42.99 on their web site!) I wish they'd go back to Borders.com run by Amazon.com so I can use my gift cards on Amazon again. :)

This was posted back in January on this thread, but just came across this in another web search--seems to still be working (I hadn't used it yet):
25% off 1 item! coupon code: IPL1255 expires: 9/30/2009 |

I read that the DVD section will be pared back to match various store profiles as follows:

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly
After more than a month since it was pre-ordered, Borders finally shipped the Akira BD. I highly doubt this will be the first pressing with the limited edition booklet.

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly
Got a 40% off coupon (with $20 purchase) good from 3-23 to 3-25 with my receipt today. If you bought anything from Borders check those receipts.

The Boylston Street location in Boston, MA began their clearance today: 30% off anything with a red tag. Judging from what I saw, it doesn't appear they're getting rid of that much stock; only what has probably sat there since they first got it

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly
Here's hoping Borders reads this and gives us a 40% (or better?) online code this week.

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly
Got two of the 40% off coupons during a couple of my purchases over the past couple days.

Anyone else on e-rewards.com? Is the $15 Borders Bucks reward the best one or what?

Unless one wants to redeem $1500 for enough frequent flyer miles to take a flight (that likely still requires one to meet certain restrictions and fees). Or redeem a $100 for $100 off of ebags. Etc. :) |

Etc. :) I always redeem for the $25 Gamestop gift card, but the down side is that you have to have $50 in your account to get it. It seems like a rip off, but I've gotten two since I started doing e-rewards last summer and I'm only a couple of dollars short of being able to redeem my third. Is the Borders one $15 for $15? |
