Hey, Private Donut, I agree w/what most of what you said/did. The wording is certainly clear as to the applicability of more than one season ... couldn't be any clearer. I think, though, the BBB is a waste of time in this instance. Since offer/sale can be interpreted, reasonably so, as one and the same.

That being said, Best Buy could/should have just honored the coupon given that its computer/rgister could and would have automatically entered the deduction. That counts for something, I think.

So, in the end, agree w/everything except for going to the BBB. but, its your time to waste!

I'm sure the CEOs at Fox and Best Buy are quaking in fear of your e-mail tirades. And why do you keep posting angry comments fantasizing about the hell that will break loose if you find missing coupons? Are you daydreaming about the incredible arguments you will raise?

Also, ummm...Best Buy isn't taking off the coupons from the sets...other customers are.

Just to say I got in on this yesterday, too. Got all 6 seasons for $29.15 out the door. Rang up as $110 or so before the coupon. When the girl at the register added the coupon, she shouted, "No way! You're robbin' us! Awesome!" Then told me she was going to get the deal herself. :P

Thanks. I could have wasted 20 minutes with a store manager (and they probably would still have not honored the coupon), or 4 minutes filing a complaint at BBB.org. I chose the latter.

I still think BBB is the way to go. It establishes a pattern of mis-trust between retailer and consumer, if such a pattern exists. Nobody complains, no pattern is ever revealed, nothing changes.

I don't know if the site is still up (and I can't currently check at work), but there was a consumer website specifically aimed at Best Buy and a lot of its shady practices. BestBuySux.org I believe was the name of it. I haven't been to it in years so I can't vouch for it now, but nothing happened back then.

Picked up all 6 seasons at Milpitas, CA today at lunch for $29.xx out the door. The first season tins were in with regular TV DVDs, not the FOX section.

i don't believe BBB is the way to go. Not in an instance where the retailer has a valid excuse for doing what they're doing. In this instance, BB does.

Believe it or not, the better route would've been BB nationally. Both to discuss any rudeness by store mangers (which is uncalled for), and to make a complaint.

If your goal was to accomplish anything, Donut, you'd have a far better chance w/BB corporate than the BBB. I can guarantee you that.

The "workers unite" theme didn't work for the socialists, and it won't work against Best Buy, either! LOL!

Hate websites do little. Official complaints filed through corporate and the Better Business Bureau do plenty. I know of one gentleman who was going to be royally screwed out of ALOT of money from his dental insurance until he authored a gloriously written complaint through the BBB. They did a 180, and paid him his money.

Please don't get me wrong. I agree that the BBB can be very helpful in many instances. However, I don't believe this is one of them. Corporate would be a better avenue as, if nothing else, the coupon question is misleading and/or not consumer friendly. But, not deceptive ... which is where the BBB would come in handy.

Totally agree about "hate" websites as well.

Why would anyone do that? You have to buy Season 1 along with coupon to get the discount, coupon by itself has no value.

I wish someone knew something about the clock too :( I've been playing with it and if you hold it for a REALLY long time it goes up one second I'm currently at 6 seconds.

I am a longtime lurker, but I thought I would post to thank acejh87 for pointing out what is by and large the sweetest deal I have encountered in my almost 7 years of collecting DVDs. (I thought scoring Ratatouille on Blu-ray for $5 with combination of a sale, an instant coupon and mail-in rebate last fall was awesome, but this tops all.)

About a month ago, I was given a DVD as a gift which I thought I wanted, but once I got it I realized that I would only ever watch it once out of curiosity and that it wasn't worth popping the shrinkwrap for. A friend suggested taking it to Best Buy for store credit, but I was waiting around to act on it. Well, I acted on it today, and in combination with the deal and that credit, all I had to pay out of pocket was $7.50 for all six seasons combined.

I have never seen 24, but I always wanted to and meant several times to get the DVDs because so many friends love it. But I never had the money to complete the set. I didn't want to buy one set, get hooked and then ntot have money for season two for months on end waiting for the next sale. I would have if I had to, but even when they were on sale before I seemed to always have another new release item that week that needed to take priority. (Most recently, the item that got in the way was the Indiana Jones soundtrack over the first season's re-release on May 20.) So I sort of resigned myself to passing on it -- one of those things I'd get to "eventally" on a list that always gets longer and never shorter.

Then this deal showed up.

By the time I noticed it yesterday afternoon, there was no time to go out and get them before dinner, and then I was asked to play one of my DVDs from my collection for family members. When I first saw the thread, it was 1 page long; when I returned to it later last night it was 5 pages. So I was very concerned about being able to get them as soon as possible, lest they sell out.

I was at Best Buy at 10am when they opened this morning, exchanged my other DVD for store credit and went to find the boxes.

I found them after about five minutes of looking -- but to my disappointment, they were out of severral. As I recall, Seasons 1, 3, 5, and 6 were there, which would still have been a mighty nice deal -- except that the Season 1 was the slimcase reissue of the old version instead of the special edition, and as such did not have the coupon on it. An employee confirmed that they went pretty fast yesterday, so all seemed lost for this deal and I went about browsing for something else to spend my store credit on.

However, another employee then asked if he could help me find something and spent a good 15 minutes helping me work out the logistics. He looked in the computer and found that another store on the other side of town had a copy of the Season 1 tin, called them and had them hold it, with one each as many of the other seasons as they had available, at the customer service counter there. When he got off the phone he told me they had all six of them and they would be held for me until the end of the day today.

They also transferred my store credit to a gift card, allowing me to use it at the other store.

The knowledge that they were being held for me allowed for running another several errands first until I ended up on the side of town where the second Best Buy was. I went in, went straight to the customer service desk, gave them my name and there they all were, the tin plus five other boxes waiting for me. Most importantly, the coupon was on the tin.

The customer service guy checked me out right there -- he scanned in all the sets and called over another employee to ask about the coupon. For a second I thought this would cause a problem, but it turned out he was just asking how the coupon worked because he hadn't seen one like it before. The second employee scanned it and said, "It makes all the other seasons $1.99" -- matter-of-factly, not like there was a problem with it.

The first employee said, "Really?" all interestedl and continued, "Well, that explains why I got two calls within the first ten minutes of being open today asking if we had them."

I asked out of curiosity if these were the last copies; he said they were, and that I got very lucky.

We finished the transaction -- gift card added, balance paid, and the end. I thanked them both and left the store, just like that, having paid $7.50 for all six seasons. I still can't get over how redicliously great the deal is, and laughed all the way home.

Even better -- Best Buy's price stickers on all of them say $49.99, so just in case I end up not liking it, I've only so far popped the shrinkwrap on Season 1. If I watch a few episodes and decide it's not for me, then I've got one gently used set, plus 5 other sealed ones with $49.99 price tags, that I can sell or trade for store credit somewhere.

But I seriously doubt I will be doing that. Instead, I'm going to enjoy the show even more knowing that I paid so little for all of its entertainment.

Thanks acejh87 and everyone else in this thread for sharing the deal and your stories. I wish the rest of you as much luck as I had in ease of getting the sets and deal.

A note to anyone who has faced sellouts -- could you go back and ask for rainchecks perhaps?

They actually suggested this to me, but the lady said they couldn't do a raincheck at the 1.99 price, but they could at the 16.99 price.

i tried the local BB and no luck. they had one S1, but the coupon was gone, and they had one each of S4 and S5. i am hoping that maybe they will get more stock in soon.

Does anyone know when BB gets their shipments in? I was thinking probably Tuesday along with new DVDs, but I don't know.

YMMV, but my friendly neighborhood Best Buy gets shipments in Tuesday and Friday evenings.

was anyone successful at the San Diego (Mission Valley) BB??? all the 24 boxset are now sold out online and cannot see store availability/pickup, I guess the big guy noticed the 24 frenzy...
the only one i want is the S1 SE, and i was actually waiting for the eventual blu-ray release...but getting the slim-pack for the deal is tempting...

i just got seasons 1,3,4, and 6 at the BB in Visalia,CA. But i think i got the last S1 tin box though. They had no S2's or S5's so i went to Costco and got S2 for $24. I already had S5, so still a great deal. The cashier was shocked when it came up lol

You could've done the Amazon deal and gotten s1+s2 for ~$24 as well.

This was mentioned earlier but it's worth mentioning again for those that might have missed it.

If your Best Buy doesn't have all six seasons, you might be able to do a "return and re-buy" at another store that has the seasons you couldn't find. You'll just need the coupon so they can run the transaction again.

My local Best Buy only had Seasons 1-5 but one of the managers suggested a "return and re-buy" option if I could find Season 6 at another Best Buy. They even went online and found several other nearby Best Buys that still had Season 6.

So I bought Seasons 1-5 and I went to another Best Buy and the manager there gave me Season 6 for $1.99 + tax after looking at the coupon and my previous receipt.

So that's an option worth trying, if you can't find all six seasons at one Best Buy.

I caused a bit of a frenzy at my Best Buy. I read this early this afternon, and zoomed off to my store (Rockford, IL). They had four S1 tins left, all with coupons, and plenty of all other seasons as well.

When I checked out, everything came up just as it should and my total was $28 and change. The person behind me was in awe and sent his wife back to grab them all. Apparently the person behind them heard and headed back as well. Before I was done paying, they were all back, and said they told some other people in the section about it, and they had taken the last set and others were all scouring the store for stray tins as well. So while apparently no one in my area knew about the deal, within 60 seconds of me buying mine, the rest were gone.


p.s. Long-time lurker, but this amazing deal prompted me to finally register. I'll be posting more whenever I find something worthwhile to share!

Sounds like you got some good service. I would not count on the rest of BB's to do the same though. In fact, I would count on them doing just the opposite.
