Went to my local store today no MGM titles. I did find a 8 movie set from Tango Entertainment that had:

Getting Gotti (Lorraine Bracco TV movie?)
Carolina Skeletons (Lou Gossett)
On the Streets of LA (Lou Gossett)
Cracker First Love (Robert Pastorelli)
I know nothing of these movies but what caught my eye:

The Wild Geese (Burton, Moore, Harris)
Zulu Dawn (Burt Lancaster, Peter O'Toole)
Virus The Director's Cut (George Kennedy, Glenn Ford, Sonny Chiba)
Baltic Storm (Donald Sutherland, Greta Scacchi)

I bought it for $5.00 but haven't opened it yet, it's a 2 disc set so I don't know if The Wild Geese has the extras or not. Heard bad things about the Zulu Dawn dvd but it's the only disc available if you want it. Any one have this disc or the individual discs of these? This one is called Platinum Collection there were 3 others the Drama Collection, 4-star Collection and Family Collection. The back of the disc has the original disc artwork.

Hey,

I can't seem to find a couple Sony titles I'm looking for. The Big Lots by me has a lot of the MGM titles.

Anyone by chance have copies or have a store near them that has copies of:

Body Double SE (Got It)
Blue Thunder SE (Got It)
Robocop 2
and/or
In Cold Blood (Got It)

We can maybe trade. PM me and I'll send you a list of the MGM titles at my local store.

Thanks.

Reads about the Funimation titles:

Oh joy....more anime, though the only way I'll be picking any of this up is if all the volumes of an entire series show up (I'm still hunting for a few last volumes of series I'm working on from past BL/DG sales). That or I'll wait for Funimation to release a new Viridian Collection set (as they switched to thinpak VC collection sets, starting w/the recently-released Burst Angel VC set).

Had a pretty big selection here at Pittsburgh, PA. biglots. It was in west mifflin to be exact.

Some titles I can remember
Mac n' Me
Thrashin'
Thundercats A Go
Pink Panther Movies
Carrie 1
Killer Clowns
Man Hunter
etc.

Pretty big selection...

I wnet crazy a few weeks back with all the Sony and HBO dvds. Here I go again. The MGMs finally arrived. Bought 6. want more

coville 06-26-08 08:58 PM

It would appear the version of Swamp Thing is the recalled European release which was not PG. Unless someone knows for sure I'll have to buy a copy to see for myself. ; )

RustyOrgan 06-26-08 09:05 PM

The Fairfax, VA FYE had a bunch of 'In Cold Blood' as part of their 3 for $12 display

Every copy I saw was the newer theatrical cut release.

This one.. http://www.dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1648451876

Not this one.. http://www.dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1184340128

I heard they never changed the actual dvd, they just changed the rating on the cover. Is that true?

I've never seen either version, but according to reports, the recalled version was the international cut containing the nudity and the newer release is the US theatrical cut which omits it.

Note: This particular release of Swamp Thing contains the original 91-minute, PG-rated, theatrical version of the film. An earlier DVD release included extra footage of a topless Ms. Barbeau and a few jigglin' dancer-girls, but those frames are not present on this DVD. Sorry, boobie fans!

For this nudity-free version of Craven's film (you'll need the OOP version for those brief bits),

Bought today in Clifton NJ Big Lots:

The Pink Panther Strikes Again (original packaging)
Curse Of The Pink Panther
Son Of The Pink Panther
A Shot In The Dark
The Safety Of Objects
Ned Kelly (Jagger)

Yep - all @ $3.00. Wish I could've found the Trail & Revenge Pink Panther flicks, but they didn't have. They also had no HBO's or Superbits.

They did have a bunch of MGM's tho. Just a few others I recall were:
Confessions Of An American Girl
Supernova
Bad Influence
Captain John Smith And Pocahontas
Married To The Mob
Phantom Of The Opera (1989)
Pieces Of April
Carbon Copy
Falcon And The Snowman
Undertow
Chato's Land
Yes Men
The Amityville Horror (Ryan Reynolds)
Inspector Clouseau

Does anybody know if the Jagger Ned Kelly is anamorphic? The packaging just says "Letterbox (1:66:1)".

To check/confirm tech specs, sites like DVD-Basen and/or DVDCompare will usually have what one is looking for. If not, look for additional reviews on IMDb's external reviews section for the desired title or look it up on MRQE.com.

For Ned Kelly specifically, it is non-anamorphic (as are a decent number of these MGM titles as they were often one of the weaker major studios when it came to anamorphic releases and/or quality transfers).

Anyone looking to trade?

I bought these and have zero interest in keeping them.
Last Days
Invasion of the body snatchers (Sutherland version)
Carrie
Killer Clowns from Outer Space
Manhunter

I think payday is tomorrow. I shall be going back this weekend! Anyone want me to keep an eye out for something and we can trade for something?

thursdaynighter 06-26-08 11:20 PM

Pretty sure they were the regular versions.

I was surprised to see those there. They were in with the Sony titles. Not much to choose from either.

Very, very brief. Don't bother hunting it down unless you just have money to burn.

If it's Adrian Barbeau (SP?) you could prolly find some more "revealing" films of her besides Swampy ;)

standbyme 06-27-08 10:14 AM

Here in central Illinois my Big Lots finally got some of the MGM titles...2 stand-up cardboard displays. Not as many in quanity as other stores have gotten...we're a small town. (I was the first to hit the racks when they went out so I was happy!)

At $3 I want it for the fun of having the recalled European cut.

ScissorPuppy 06-27-08 01:44 PM

Still no dice in Atlanta.

I would be surprised if it's the European cut. The box art is distinctly different so it should be easy to tell.

As you got the other Clouseau films I would recommend "Inspector Clouseau" for $3. While not anywhere close to being as good as the Sellers' films it is not as bad as or certainly no worse than "Son of the Pink Panther". If for no other reason it belongs in your Pink Panther collection as a curiosity, especially for $3.

Could have sworn there were more but when I checked today I only found 3. All the newer PG version. : ( Still picked up a couple more movies. Boxcar Bertha which I missed yesterday and Scanners. Was going to get Manhunter till I saw it was P/S.

Skyclad01 06-27-08 06:05 PM

Today, my BL buys were:

Rock 'N' Roll High School (Special Widescreen Edition)
Personal Velocity
Mr. Accident

(All my findings have been at the Kingman Arizona store. I dont have the extra gas money to make the 60 mile round trip to the Bullhead store which would be the next closest one)
