Someone else in this thread recently reported seeing the DVD too so people may consider this a neat "stocking stuffer" to be on the lookout for. It does include what some say is the one of the very best Three Stooges shorts ever-"A Plumbing We Will Go". This particular DVD has 6 total shorts but should be noted 4 of those are from just one year, 1934. The transfer quality may not reach the restored level of the current collections being released but this is an official earlier release from Columbia Tristar so this isn't public domain transfer crap either, I guess.

This one was here too (multiple copies). I purchased one of these for ~$5 a few months before the announcement of the remastered Stooges by year collections.

It has:

"Woman Haters" - 1934 (Their first short. All of the dialog is spoken in rhyme)
"Punch Drunks" - 1934 (Curly going crazy at the sound of music)
"Men in Black" - 1934 ("Paging Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard"... their only short to be nominated for an Academy Award)
"Three Little Pigskins" - 1934 (Look for a young Lucille Ball)
"A Plumbing We Will Go" - 1940 (One of their funniest shorts ever)
"Micro-Phonies" - 1945 (Curly mimicks "Voices of Spring" dressed as a woman)

I'm not too crazy about "Woman Haters", but the other 5 are classics. The quality of this set, while very good, is not on a par with the "Collection" versions but far superior to the PD releases. For $3 the DVD is a good, economical choice for a Stooge fan in training, a casual fan, or as a stocking stuffer. If you are a true Stooge lover you'll pass on this and get the collections. The quality of those is amazing.

Seconded.

But do the collections have dubbed soundtracks in Spanish and Portuguese? That's half of what I bought this cheap one for. I might get the collections eventually, though I don't know when I'd have time to watch all of them.

For the first time in months. there were absolutely NO new DVDs at my BL this week.

There were some $4 Christmas CDs.

Wonder if they're getting ready for Black Friday and $2 DVDs like last year!

I would love to tell you "yes, they do" but the truth is the only language is English. I don't understand why they did not at least include the alternate language tracks for those shorts where one already exists. Additionally, there are no subtitles in *any* language but they *are* closed captioned in English.

For Stooges you *make* time! :)

They had probably 10 copies of Guys and Dolls as well many copies of the Kevin Smith 2.

This was at the Big Lots on the north side of Parkersburg, WV.

Were there anymore Baron Munchausen? Thats the only one out of the current assortment I'm still looking for.

The Zanesville OH store got in some Funimtion DVDS mostly different from the previous ones. I picked up

Basilisk Vol 1
Kodocha Vol 3
Suzuka vol 2
Trinity Blood vol 2
peach girl vol 2
Beck vol 1 with guitar pick
seven samurai vols 1 and 6
Full Metal Panic vol 2

and unrelated to that a movie called Spirit Trap with Billie Piper from DR Who

xmiyux 11-02-08 05:52 PM

There was one more Baron but it was a floater so i didn't pick it up for trade.

RichC2 11-04-08 07:49 AM

Had a second sighting of animes Beck Vol 1 and Basilisk Vol 1, got both at $2 a piece yesterday.

Keith123 11-04-08 03:24 PM

Saw some $3.00 titles at a Dayton, OH Big Lots (Airway/Woodman corner) that may have been mentioned before but this was the first time I noticed them for sale-

Scoop (Woody Allen)- http://www.amazon.com/Scoop-Woody-Al...5831613&sr=1-1
My Date With Drew - http://www.amazon.com/My-Date-Drew-C...5831925&sr=1-1
The Missing (Extended cut) - http://www.amazon.com/Missing-Tommy-...5831820&sr=1-1
The Grudge 2 (darn, can't remember if it was the "regular" cut or the "Director's cut" so I won't post a link to Amazon. It was the sequel though, not the first one)

Normally, I would have bought all 4 of the above titles. But, I'm trying to curtail my "Big Lots fever". Just because a DVD is for sale at an excellent price...it isn't worth it if it is just going to sit on my DVD shelf unwatched. I just "saved" $12.00 plus tax that can go to buying something I may watch in the future like a TV season set. Fun to browse today and that was worth the gas money.

Weeeellllll, I had moaned and complained a little bit in the Target $7.50 thread about my Big Lots never having anything that was mentioned in this thread. Well, that changed. Me and the misses went there over the weekend, and this display was there. Last time they stocked up, I was only able to find one or two things that were somewhat decent.

This time, they had practically everything.

Walked out with:

Ali: Director's Cut
Panic Room: 3-Disc
A River Runs Through It: Deluxe
The Saddest Music in the World
Bugsy: Extended Cut

... and a copy of Guys and Dolls!

Total, the damage was $19 and a quarter. That's probably around 75% of what I paid for my first copy of Panic Room way back when.

Also saw Mothman Prophecies two-discers, New York, New York, L'Enfant, Philadelphia, Scoop, a slew of other Superbits, and a lot more.

With BL it's very much a YMMV thing. You'll find everything from stores with none of the titles left (or never got them at all) to others with everything still on the shelf.

From my experience, there are some titles that have come and went...and then come back again so I'd suggest continuing to keep your eyes open.

edtrussell 11-04-08 11:20 PM

I just got back from my local Big Lots in Salem Oregon. They had new display last Friday that has since then been picked through quite a bit. But they had a few that I picked up. I also picked up some extras if anyone wants to trade. Here is what I have extra.

Hellboy (3 disk)
Panic Room (3 disk)
Bubba Ho-Tep
Action The complete Series
The Replacement Killers (SE)

djskyler 11-05-08 03:32 AM

Had an opportunity to visit the Tracy, CA Big Lots and found some I hadn't come across before. Picked up:

Urban Legends: Final Cut
Hudson Hawk SE
The Notorious Betty Page
Adaptation
Opportunity Knocks (a Universal title!)

also spotted:

The Ring Two
Jinxed (Bette Midler)

I'm with you on that one. While I appreciate this thread and everyone's findings, there are many titles that I can't bring myself to buy just because it is $3. I will continue to look forward to everybody's posts, and will update you all if I find anything new or interesting, but with the limited shelf space I am finding myself with, I think I need to slow it down and be a little more selective with my purchases.

What I've done recently is put some of the $3 blind buys on the top of my unwatched pile. Several that I viewed in the last few weeks, I've already sent off to DVD Planet for store credit (at more than the $3 I paid for them at BL).

I agree 100%..............................................Ok, it's been 5 minutes, when's the next shipment ???

BobO'Link 11-05-08 09:56 PM

This is a bit off topic but since there seem to be quite a few of you who are Bettie Page fans I thought you might be interested...

I was looking at the lastest issue of "Previews" at the comic shop today and saw where Dark Horse is "publishing" a Bettie Page "Heat-Sensitive" mug. She's in a bikini top that fades away when a hot liquid is put in the cup. "Previews" shows the list price as $14.99 with a release date of Feb. 11, 2009. Here is a link to the mug (with photos but don't get your hopes up as nothing is "revealed") on the Dark Horse site:
http://www.darkhorse.com/Products/15...r-Changing-Mug
They show a release date of May 6, 2009.

Very odd.

Three days ago I was wondering about "Action: The Complete Series". Then saw the post. Picked it up. Nice.

And now... earlier today I picked up the new edition/issue of Previews, haven't had an opportunity to go through it yet.

Besides picking up the above, I also found "The Missing" (2 disc SE) and "National Lampoon's Gold Diggers"; both are blind purchases.

Thanks for the heads-up.
