Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Criterions, Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc.
Free Shipping is $25 (before tax/shipping) or with membership.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order

Return period is 14 days after delivery though possibly it's 30 days now for most people though there is a discrepancy b/w the receipt and website.
Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept

Single Item 15% OFF, but should be reusable in different transaction and if the Clerks will scan it more than once.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Merry Christmas to you, hariseldon! Thanks so much for all you do here to make our lives just a little easier by making our expenses just a little bit lighter. The other day, I thought to take a shot at getting a B&N coupon while I was already in line at the store. Within the minute of my post, you'd more than fulfilled my literally last-minute request. Believe me, it was much appreciated. Have a great evening!

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Dear hariseldon,

My wife and I would like to thank you for the many coupon codes that you sent our way over Christmas. We really stocked up on the criterion collection blu-rays this time around. We are big CC Blu-ray fans and we got like 10 CC Blu-rays using the coupon codes. We also got a few books for our kids.

Thank you very much.

Merry Christmas and a very happy 2016 to you and your family.

David and Eileen

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

I imagine that I'm late to the party, but just want to say that I loathe the one-time use coupons. How the hell does Barnes and Noble think they are going to stay in business this way? With multiple-times use coupons, I purchased over $50 most of the time. Now, I just purchase 1 time. Why should I purchase something at B&N at a 10% discount when I can purchase the exact same thing on Amazon or even at their own damn website for 30% or more off? It looks like the higher ups at B&N simply don't want customers to buy stuff at their business.

Just because people in this thread got some deals doesn't mean that the store didn't miss some business because of their rules. Brick and mortar bookstores have been on a steady decline for the past 10 years (just look at Borders). B&N members shouldn't be begging for more coupons on a forum. They should be allowed to use them as many times they want for the benefit of both parties. Also, I may add that is completely stupid that B&N won't price match their website for in-store pick up items.

Of course, you could keep defending a dying business instead of actually offering constructive criticism to help them survive since you know, B&N have closed over 70 stores in the past 4 years and are planning on closing 10 more in 2016. It seems that they are closer to being the next Borders or Circuit City or every other business that has refused to adapt to the way things are in the Internet era instead of evolving for the better like some other stores have done.

Again, I get that you are helping people here get additional coupons and get some deals, but this way of getting extra coupons shouldn't be the way to get deals. I've been a paying B&N member for years and I'm really thinking about stop renewing since I can find the exact same items at other places like Amazon for way cheaper than B&N. Why hasn't B&N emulated Amazon is unclear to me.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

When Barnes and Noble is resorting to trying to sell booze, you know the shit has hit the fan. Of course, keep denying that stores are closing and business has been going down in this store and keep deluding yourself that Amazon is the Bose of retail. The fact is that Barnes and Noble has been decreasing in every way possible while Amazon has become bigger and bigger in the meantime. Of course, Amazon is far from perfect but at least is not Barnes and Noble bad. Just because you can get a Criterion for $12 twice a year doesn't mean Barnes and Noble is all that great.

In the past 8 years a lot has happened, including the fact that Barnes and Nobles keeps closing stores left and right while Amazon keeps growing and expanding their business. Your spending at Amazon has decreased, yet everyone else in the world is spending more and more there. Of course, because I can get not only books, music and movies at a better price than most retailers, but because they also expanded to items beyond those three. Amazon is the reason why retailers like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Target have decided to let customers price match items they sell with the prices from Amazon.com. Like I said before, Amazon ain't perfect by any means, but they are better on a daily pricing than B&N. At least on Amazon I don't have to be scavenging for coupons to get the best deals.

... which should make one wonder how Amazon manages to be such a stellar leader of discount-pricing etailers

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

@Red Hood: I have priced the same order at BN, Amazon, and direct from the publisher. If you have a membership with free shipping on any order and can use one coupon per item, BN is the best deal available right now. No one else even comes close. (Depending on what you buy, of course. Amazon's free shipping program costs four or five times that of BN, but BN sells books, DVDs, and toys while Amazon has other stuff.) As long as BN is the best deal going, I'll stick with them. I periodically stack BN up against Amazon, B-A-M (who knows how they're still in business), and direct orders from publishers. In fact, with coupons, BN can be a better deal than remainder-sellers like Hamilton Books depending on their prices (which aren't always cut-rate and can be the same as BN). YMMV.

I don't understand BN's store prices and anemic 10% discount. I was looking at new trade paperback prices over the holidays and calculated you'd need a 25% to 30% off coupon to buy for the same price you'd get with a 15% coupon a few years ago. But, online, the price is about the same, it's just that the discounts are deeper. BN is charging full price for books (and other items) in their stores, but prices have risen dramatically the past few years to "price in" the online discount so those cover prices aren't realistic. Imagine paying full MSRP at Kohls, for example, which would be silly since Kohls doubles the price of every item and marks it 40% off. Unless BN makes the stores more competitive, I don't see how they'll be able to survive. (The overall increase in prices has, btw, eroded Amazon's price advantage. At least for books, Amazon and BN have the same prices online, but Amazon doesn't have coupons.)

I was in my BN store the weekend before Christmas. Nothing had sold. They had as much inventory as they had before Black Friday. The new release shelves had as many copies of books as they did in November. The toys and other stuff were not selling. Items were piled up on tables. Maybe my store is not typical.

This looks like a rough year for BN. Their new web site is a debacle. (I still have to click "submit order" and other buttons sometimes a dozen times to get past "Internal Server Error - Read"). Their stores aren't moving inventory. The Nook is not doing well. But as Sears has shown, an established business with brand recognition takes a long time to die.

Also, quick BTW: Amazon has never had to turn a profit, so it's hard for BN to compete with that. Amazon makes most of its money from its cloud computing division. Without that revenue, the retail part would probably have collapsed by now.

I'm not aware of any either. My order was a combination of a wall calendar I never got around to buying in 2015, a DVD that I found out was oop once mcarver recently updated that thread, plus a mmpb book for filler. I've found that those 15% coupons can be good for books, especially if they are fairly inexpensive to begin with.

There's a pretty good CD sale going on right now with $4.99/$6.99/$9.99 titles.

Some good stuff, especially with the multi-disc sets such as the "Original Album series" that combine 5 classic albums in one bundle for $9.99 ($24.99 most places; even after discounts, usually the lowest one can find them at places such as DeepDiscount is $15). They're bare-bones (in one big slipcover; CD's are in cardboard/paper sleeves reproducing original album art, but no liner notes/lyric sheets, etc. Some of the CDs include bonus tracks from later reissues and some don't. If you're a member & get free shipping, 5 classic albums for around $9 (we have 10% sales tax) isn't bad. Even if only 3 of the albums are pretty great (as with the Tull set), it's still a bargain. I'm going back for a few more left off my earlier order.

Also, there are several exclusive sets with bonus CDs/extra content included with the $9.99 titles; after doing some research, they appeared to be the cheapest prices available for new copies. And BN did have (and quickly sent) the two-disc Best of Bowie CD that is out of stock at many online outlets right now.

They also have some music DVDs/BDs for $9.99 (mentioned in another thread). McCartney Years, Cream Reunion Concert, Crossroads 2010 Concert (both DVD AND Bluray for $9.99 each).

I ordered around 11 titles for just under $100 using the $10 off $100 coupon. The 15/20% off coupons make these even better deals, and you only have to order one (with free shipping if you're a member).

(Update on Bowie 2-disc CD...OOS currently from BN, but they do have the single-disc collection for $6.99 before discount. Glad I got the 2-disc early; secondary sellers on BN are now asking $48.99 for it, although it can still be found for around $20 new elsewhere).

Btw...just placed two more orders using the 20% code posted above, so it does still work and IS reusable.
