Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Asking for some spies who happen to be in-store over the next couple days.

I can't find any information of the June 40% sale which usually runs the week leading into Father's Day.

The 2 clerks I called had no information (or nothing they would say) so either it's not happening this summer or they've moved the dates. In 2014/2015 it was 2 wks, 2016/2017 it was a single week, Before 2014 it was leading into Memorial Day weekend and then a B2G1 sale ran in June for several years.

So far no signs online of the 40% Off All/Most/Some Bluray online. Hopefully by morning the sale will show up or at least someone is store can report what's going on there.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Still nothing online, but 2 reports from In-store that most items are coming up 40% off. As usual Disney items aren't and as sometimes happens Criterion appear ti be excluded from this sale.

Coupons do seem to be applying so far. No report on ship to home, but unless they've changed the system those should still work with the 40% off.

Also no reports in any advance pre-orders are being allowed this time. The last couple have allowed 4-6 weeks forward to discount 40% though no coupons.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Sale definitely in-place in store, but it looks like none of the employees were notified yesterday adn kind of found out as the customers showed up. A bit of a correction today.

There were at least signs in store today though they were HomeMade version and not the usual professional signs. Looks like someone hit their computer made a simple sign, then printed them on standard white printer paper and ran off a bunch of copies. They were taped them on all the doors, Customer Service, the Media department, the cafe -- looked like my elementary school when Fall Festival was about to happen except lower quality signs.

40% All Blu-ray and DVD through July 17th
Excludes Disney, Marvel, and the Criterion Collection.

I think it said July 17, but normally it goes through Monday. Maybe a misprint or they decided to end it after Fathers Day. Regular coupons were working. 40% discount was applying to Ship to Home orders so I ended up with a bunch of Warner Archive
items released since Christmas many/most which likely won't be part of a 4/44 sale until November. Nice to be able to get them for under $11-12 now instead of waiting.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Fathers Day and Xmas, Fathers Day and Xmas -- though I honestly don't think the clerks found out much ahead of you. Hopefully your store isn't too far back.

Last the last few sales some of the preorders releasing after the sale are also 40% off via ship to home. I didn't have anything later than July 1 on my list so not sure how far out it goes. They should allow coupons, but it is nice to be able to Order Colossus of Rhodes adn Super Fly without having to wait for the next sale.

I did mostly WAC ship to home and used one of my 20% on Animal Kingdom S2, but I did decide to pick up Peter Capaldi Doctor Who boxset as my only in-store purchase in the second store with the other 20% coupon -- the first store has the spider wraps strangling the box and the 2nd store just had it on the shelf. $56, not as good as the $40-45 possible in December British TV sale, but quite reasonable in general and with the way the Matt Smith box disappeared suddenly after a year I figured why not. Tried to look up the Tom Baker set, but it didn't seem to be in the computer yet by name or UPC -- probably going to get the UK set anyway since the US set has only the plain packaging.

That may also bode well for the Criterion Sale and possibly the Aug releases. I know by the end of last July's sale I was able to order items all the way through mid October. By the time the Criterion Flash sale came around there wasn't anything left and even for the Nov BN Sale I only had the late Oct and November releases to worry about though the Dec titles were allowed to be ordered, but not the Jan titles.

Actually the GC resellers have some pretty nice discounts for the first time in a couple years -- better than the 7-10.5% that seem to be the best deals for a long time. A fairly large number of 15% off cards and I actually pulled a 21% card a few days ago. Not back to the heyday of 18-22% discounts or the famous Sav a lot 40% off cards, but still decent.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

It looks like Warner Archive titles are no longer eligible for the 40% off? I'd sure like to get Super Fly (1972) for something less than $17.97 (as on amazon). Hopefully it gets cheaper, not sure I will wait for a WAC sale.

It depends, did you have them look it up in the store computer or just BN.com website?

This is basically a store only sale far more than their past 40% sales. BN.com and BN store system are seriously quite separate entities as far as prices and functionality. In most situations that drives people crazy, but for this sale it works in our favor if you can use it. Virtually every Bluray and DVD except Disney/Criterion should be 40% in the In-Store System (there are a few oddball exceptions, but 99% of the rest are included)

WAC have virtually never been discounted online during these sales though normally about 2/3 of the BN.com movies are. This sale the BN.com side is not participating at all as far as I can tell. In order to get cheap WAC you have to do it as an In-store generated ship-to-home order which in their system is very different than a Web order. Some stores will do Phone-In Orders though the STH process is slow so try to call at a dead time and not all stores will do this and only some stores accept coupons over the phone and almost none allow Gift Cards by phone

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

There was something really strange about the recent 40% in-store sale. When I went to my store yesterday, all I saw were signs of 30% sale, not 40%. When I asked, the clerk insisted that 30% was the corporate directive.

Yet, when I did a ship-to-home order of Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice bluray (MSRP $39.95), the price came out to be $23.99, exactly 40%. After using a 20% coupon, 10% membership discount, and 5% BN credit card, the final price was $17.76 including tax, all in all a fantastic deal.

But my question is, how is it possible that BN couldn't even keep its sale promotion policy straight across its stores? There is got to be something ridiculous going on with BN's management.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

The whole 40% sale was strange from the start

The Stores had no idea there even was a sale on Tuesday,
Home-made 40% signs went up at most store either late Tuesday or early Wed.
The sale definitely ended Sunday instead of going through Monday
No online component at all.
Obviously conflicting information to/from employees -- the whole BN Directive was almost certainly either a CYA or a local Manager doing his own thing and really doesn't fly since most people who reported were being told by the employees in store of the 40%

There have been several people also reporting very long term senior employees are leaving.

At least there was a sale this month

I now have 2 different dates for the Criterion Sale start -- the reddit post saying Jul 3-30 and a CSR yesterday who said it would start July 5. Again I couldn't get aany report from a clerk of their knowledge of the next sale.

I've certainly made fun of the Sky is Falling nonsense that started right after Circuit City went down and before Borders demise. Not that I was naive enough to think that Glory Days were coming back, but I've never really been able to see a Brick wall within eyesight. I'm now 100% convinced the cliff is out there looming maybe after Xmas 2018 and some big things are going to happen sooner rather than later.
