No sales tax in CA -- that shouldn't be right? The tax isn't usually added until the last step though or maybe you're not in LA now.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
What the hell, I'll take a couple of 15% or 20% coupons if you can spare them. I will only be making four purchases from this sale anyway.

It seems to take a week or two to enter the system -- you could call and get a CS to give you a 20% code though in the past that has been online only though it was often a "magic code" that could be used multiple times at least for different people -- last sale they had one that even worked for the same account over.over.
You could try to prime the pump and add your email address to the Be In The Know box of the bottom of the webpage -- sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Make sure your Communications Preferences are fully open and add any B&N address to you email address box as a "friendly" email. Those emails seem to filtered as spam by a lot of more aggressive spam filters (check your dump file/box just to be sure). If you need 15% -- those I have |
Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Could I please get 5 coupons? Thanks ahead of time!!!!

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Looks like I'm out for CC at B&N - I bought $225 in giftcards and was about to get started down the stack when a manager came over and said it's only one coupon per customer per day. No splitting orders (anymore), no allowing one each of individual coupons (anymore), no repeats on generic coupons (anymore), and - worst yet - no coupons at all on 50% off items.
So my pile of twenty became a prospective purchase of one, and when the computer threw out my $8 off $40 for a $39.99 rrp (which is always chancey, but a) worked everybother time in the last three years and b) was okayed by customer service by phone) for BOTH, so they said, being not $40 initially and needing to still be $40+ after discounts... even that was no longer the deal it should have been. So I left with $225 in giftcards, and already wish I'd had them refunded. :( I guess that may also be it for me buying Criterion (unless Amazon has excellent deals) and anything at B&N, if their coupon policy is now so draconian that nothing is cheaper than almost-everywhere-else. That's a depressing pair of thoughts. |

I guess there's always the $14-15 with either 15/20% or $12 items with the hopeful 30% BF.

Hi, I'd like a few 15% coupons if anyone has any extra to spare.
Thanks! |
Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Is anyone else having trouble with the reserve in store function? I can enter a zip code and it never loads any results for me.

What store location is this, but that is a drastic reversal? That is not a company wide policy since some people have already reported multiple uses -- is there and alternate store nearby? If you have them scan the 50% and the % coupon, I guess you could ask why it works if they aren't supposed to allowed on sale merchandise.
I am already softening a little and may try online, bu I've had terrible luck with shipping wrecking cases, so that's awkward too..

I might even try the same store if you can figure out clerk and manager schedules -- see if it's store policy or just a manager policy.

Of course, you could always start making online orders with the % off coupons -- not nearly as good, but $16-17 with the GC you already have still isn't terrible.
Also, CC titles are great packages (most of them), which is a plus. They're allegedly Great Films which is another definite plus. But they are 99% new to me, so it's a gamble every time. A gamble at $10-15 for a $30-40 "worth" is a good gamble. But much higher and I'd rather gamble elsewhere or buy things I already know I'll definitely like and watch and rewatch and enjoy. Again, probably 90% of CC titles already fill those criteria, but even so... there's so much out there that the deal's the thing. And these are appearing to be no longer (as good of) a deal. |

Seriously. I can't believe anyone ever accepted those 8/40 coupons during these sales. Even if you're under the notion that the coupon refers to the pre-sale price, standard Criterion releases are not nor have they ever been $40. If I was BN, I would fire any cashier that accepted them.
So, yes, it's a bit sneaky. But it has also historically been on the 'allowed' side of bargain-hunting; now it's being treated as "coupon abuse" without any apparent change in terminology, wording or scope. Just that wise coupon use yielding big discounts is naturally disliked. Which would be relatively fine if they'd change the wording or something like that. Also, while the individual 'one use' coupons are a bit hazy anyway, there should be no problem presenting ten unique 15% coupons for ten items; today I was told there would be. |

I'm just trying to see any logic from the store side of such a drastic policy change and I'm having a little trouble. It's not like most stores have huge number of Criterion shoppers anyway, many.most of the customers aren't using the discounts that are available so it's got to be a tiny proportion of a monthly income/profit sheet it would affect.
I was actually talking about similar topics this week, and realised that while B&N do push the Criterion sale hard (although I assume it's corporate-sent signs and displays), I've never seen anyone else buy one - even when being in thd media section on Black Friday & Saturday during the sale. The range/shelves add a few new titles, but rarely seem to change beyond that... which is all very anecdotal, but if there are only a few sales in total, perhaps it's drastically more important to maximize profit on the sales they get? Also, many shops STILL fall into to fallacy that dissuading coupon use wil translate to greater full-price sales and profits. (And yet they still issue coupons and hold sales...)

I could see stores like Manhattan and LA who might take a beating on coupon wielding Film people or film people who are likely to buy them anyway, but for most stores that not likely to happen unless you get the collector $$ with allowing at least basic 15-20% discounts.
[Also, compare and contrast with Target: Two weeks ago, I accompanied a friend on a scouting trip to save a lot on Disney Infinity: Marvel. Target Cartwheel had 40% off, and the super-deluxe Collector's Edition had undergone an online price reduction to $60odd, from well over $100. He price-matched the instore full price to the website and then presented Cartwheel, and got the RRP down by about 75%. The cashier questioned it, and called a manager. The manager confirmed the policy and deducted the coupon's percentage. The computer flagged it as being too great a saving. Another manager was called, also okayed the whole thing, agreed with the computer, but concurred with the coupon anyway and overrode the warning. Big savings, perhaps not desired by Target, but despite three people being concerned and the computer being unhappy, the savings stood. I decided not to partake myself, as that would have been pushing it..] |
